A first half goal by L’Varn Brandy proved to be enough to take Ilkeston into the next round of the FA Cup against neighbours Heanor Town in a scrappy match on a difficult pitch. Brandy deserved to be the match winner as he was the player most willing to take on defenders. 
Ilkeston dominated possession early on but without really testing Alfie Roberts in the Heanor goal. Chances were few and far between but it was Heanor who nearly took the lead on 19 minutes when King’s corner was met by Max Thornberry’s head and it needed a great reaction save by Matt Yates to keep it out. When the corner came over Yates was there again to deny Heanor the lead. Brandy looked the most likely to create something for Ilkeston with his marauding runs at the Heanor defence. On 36 minutes after cutting inside his shot was too high but two minutes later he found the net after getting on the end of a cross by hardworking Connor Dixon. The goal gave Ilkeston a lift and Roberts did well to stop Ilkeston going two up through Tom Cursons but then seconds before half time Heanor were denied a leveller by Yates with an outstanding close range save from Reece Horne. 
The second half started in a livelier fashion. Brandy created a chance for Cursons who saw his effort cleared off the line then Colin Daniel fired wide. A great ball by Dixon provided an opportunity for Brandy but he also pulled his shot wide. Yates was then to the rescue for Ilkeston tipping over Jack Tyson’s header.  A Daniel attempt was saved by Roberts then on the hour a Cursons header rattled the frame of the Heanor goal. Cursons was unlucky again when his header from James Perch’s cross was just wide. There was an equaliser chance for Thornberry but Yates was perfectly placed to save.


 

It is mate but we have a blank weekend in March. So I say go for that weekend but I don't know what the rules are

I was told the attendance was 611.   There looked more than that but it's difficult to judge on a three sided pitch.
