Ilkeston v Frickley UPDATES

Ilkeston face Frickley this afternoon in a game which gives them the best chance of three points before the end of the season and the seemingly unavoidable relegation. Off the field activity is still pointing to a rumoured takeover which hopefully can be officially announced as soon as possible so the football club and the fans can move forward!

Re: Ilkeston v Frickley UPDATES

Just for once Ilkeston got more than they deserved but at a high price. The price they paid was that of losing keeper Dale Eve for three matches after he received a red card for retaliation after being fouled.  The first half was fairly even but Tevahn Tyrell gave Ilkeston the lead when he produced a blockbuster in added time. The second half was mainly Frickley and Ilkeston were forced to defend their lead. Dale Eve made a string of saves to keep the visitors out and Frickley were becoming more and more frustrated at their inability to score. I was along way from the red card incident near the end so cannot say for sure what happened but there followed a lot of pushing, shoving and fisticuffs involving many players but only Eve saw red. As Ilkeston had used up their allowed substitutes, Max Thornberry had to go in goal for the final minutes. I think the referee sensed that things were at boiling point and appeared to blow for time without adding much additional time.  He was right. As the players came off there were several scuffles.  The Ilkeston supporters behind the goal goaded the Frickley keeper and he lost his temper. One of the Frickley bench blasted a football at the Ilkeston fans gathered near the changing rooms. Ilkeston's photographer got caught up in the pushing and shoving and an Ilkeston player appeared to be jostled by a Frickley official. It was an unsavoury end to a game that Frickley really needed to win in their fight to avoid relegation.
