It's another massive game at the NMG as 4th placed Ilkeston take on 2nd placed Worksop with both teams looking to consolidate their positions in the league table..

Worksop's record to date : P19, W11, D2, L6, F40, A19, Pts 35
Worksop's away record to date : P10, W6, D2, L2 F17, A7, Pts 20

Worksop have only conceded 7 goals in their 10 away matches with 6 clean sheets.

We look to avenge at 2-0 defeat at Worksop on Tuesday 10th September.

Worksop’s 19 league results so far include a 7 game winning sequence and a 4 game losing sequence

After losing their first match against Macclesfield, Worksop went 9 league games without defeat including a 2-0 home win against Ilkeston.
They then inexplicably lost 5 of their next 6 with defeats against Prescot, Hebburn , Morpeth, Workington and Hyde.
They now face Ilkeston at the NMG, unbeaten in their last 3.
In their last game they beat Stockton 2-1

Worksop were promoted from the NPL East Division at the end of 2022-23 season as runaway Champions with 99 points from 38 matches losing only one match.

In 2023-24, their first season in the NPL Premier Division. they made the playoffs finishing 5th with 70 points

Worksop are strong favourites to make the playoffs again this season

They are currently 2nd with 3 points more than Ilkeston.

As we approach the halfway point in the season we have played against every team except Stockton and Matlock. We played against Matlock in the Derbyshire Senior Cup so Stockton are the only opponents that we don’t know much about. From what we’ve seen so far, there is no reason to think that we can’t make a challenge for a playoff spot with some improved consistency. We’ve lost some matches that we shouldn’t have lost but that applies to every team. Worksop are one of the teams I expect to finish 2nd or 3rd. They beat us in the corresponding game at Worksop by 2-0. Our win against Hebburn last Saturday has taken some pressure off us needing to win this match so a draw wouldn’t be a disaster. Worksop would probably take a draw but Deaks will definitely want a win.

When we played them away I thought they were the best team we’d played and would be certs for the play offs. As above their 7 game winning run put lots of points in the bag and then they faltered a bit. Still think they will be in the play offs but we have a chance Saturday if consistency doesn’t desert us, it will be a hard game but I’m going for a win. Expect it to be feisty as well so will it end with 22 players on the pitch.

Worksop Town are the biggest of a number of teams who have played home games at the New Manor Ground. The Tigers played at the NMG when their home ground was unavailable for a whole season! FC Sez, Kimberley Miners Welfare, Gresley Rovers and Aston on Trent are just a few of the teams who have played home games at the NMG.

So Worksop think they can come to the NMG and pick up a routine win. Yes, last season the Tigers won 2-1 at the NMG but Ilkeston won by the same score at Worksop. They’ve beaten us at their ground this season so it’s our turn to even it up again by winning at the NMG.
Victory over Worksop would be a major statement of our intent to be in the playoffs come the end of the season and If we play like we did against Hebburn, then we can do it.
We have to be at our best because Worksop are formidable opponents and it’s one of those knife edge games where the result could go either way.
Will we make it 4 wins on the bounce?
Will we still be unbeaten at home come 5pm?
Or will we be crestfallen and disappointed?
It’s our most important game so far and it’s going to be a tough one. With Derby and Forest playing away it should be our biggest attendance and a great atmosphere with Worksop bringing plenty of support .

Due to FA Trophy third round involvement this weekend, there will be a shortened round of seven games in the Northern Premier League's top division

Second-placed Worksop Town have the opportunity to close the gap to leaders Macclesfield when they visit another of the current top five in Ilkeston Town. Back-to-back wins have seen the Tigers re-claim second position, but standing in their way this Saturday is an Ilkeston side yet to taste defeat at home in the league this season.
Hot on the heels of Worksop are third-placed Guiseley, who welcome Whitby Town to Nethermoor. The Lions are eight unbeaten in the league - five wins and three draws accrued during that time. Whitby, meanwhile, occupy a mid-table finish at present but come into Saturday in confident mood having scored seven goals in their last two league games, winning both.
Elsewhere, Ashton United will look to hang onto their play-off position with a trip to Matlock Town. The Gladiators were on the wrong end of a thrilling 3-3 draw at Morpeth Town last time out, having led 3-0 in that game. Ashton have one of the stronger away records in the division, losing just one of their nine league games on the road.
Should either Ilkeston or Ashton drop points, Hyde United will end the weekend in the top five, should they win at Leek Town. Leek have the worst home record of any side in the division, picking up four points from a possible 27 at Harrison Park. They will also be eager to end their six-game winless run sooner rather than later.
There's also an intriguing match-up in store at Hebburn Sports Ground, where the home side do battle with Morpeth. Despite winning just one of their last five games in the league, the Hornets could still finish the weekend in the play-off spots, should they win and other results go their way.
Meanwhile, Prescot Cables and Workington will hope to finish the weekend in the top half of the division.They play host to Bamber Bridge and Blyth Spartans respectively, with the Brig looking to build momentum after a win and a draw from their last two games, and Spartans five points adrift at the foot of the table.

Today really is an UNMISSABLE MATCH DAY

and we are hoping to beat our previous best attendance this season of 987 against Macclesfield.

Forest and Derby fans have the opportunity to watch their teams live on TV as well as the top of the table Northern Premier League clash between Ilkeston and Worksop.
