What a scramble on Worksop line but they get away with it. Might have been a pen but free kick to Worksop instead. We're making numerous chances now. 3-0. Hardwick limps off replaced by Wafula. 3-0. 80 mins

Ilkeston are still fourth but are on the same number of points as Worksop Town and three points behind second place Guiseley. This win makes it four wins in all competitions. Momentum is all!

Well done today to Gainsborough, Stockton, and Basford in beating higher league opponents in the FA Trophy. And in particular to Basford and Stockton (crowd of over 1500) who knocked out teams in the top half of the National League.
Gainsborough winning means that our league game with them on Saturday, 4th January has been postponed.

Ilkeston Town 3 Worksop Town 0
No one could have predicted such an action packed second half after the first half stalemate in this top of the table clash. A thunderous Colin Daniel double against his former club turned the game Ilkeston’s way. A red card to Worksop captain Hamza Bencherif and a screamer from Connor Dixon ended any Worksop hopes of recovery.
L’Varn Brandy was Ilkeston’s main threat down the left but the swirling wind and rain contributed to a first 45 minutes lacking in genuine opportunities. Worksop’s first real chance took 36 minutes when an Aleksandrs Starcenko shot was deflected for a corner by Tom Marshall and Jacob Gratton’s header was held onto by Matt Yates.
The game changed minutes into the second half when Tom Cursons was brought down by Bencherif 25 yards out. Daniel’s powerful strike from the free kick beat the wall and keeper Tommy Taylor to put Ilkeston ahead on 49 minutes. Ilkeston stayed on the front foot and Jordan Stevens won a corner on the right. When the corner came in Marshall’s header found Daniel who drilled in another thunderbolt to double the lead on 56 minutes. Worksop were reeling and two minutes later when Cursons burst through on goal he was brought down by last man Bencherif who received a red card. Ilkeston looked for more goals and one attack saw Daniel, Marshall and Cursons all have shots blocked. Then came probably the goal of the game by Dixon who curled his effort into the top corner from 25 yards on 62 minutes. Leading scorer Cursons was desperate to get on the score sheet and was unlucky to have a strike disallowed. On 77 minutes he was denied by Taylor’s parry which was followed by a desperate goalmouth scramble. Worksop battled to prevent further damage as Ilkeston pressed for more goals. They nearly got one in added time when Jonathan Wafula’s header from Sam Parker’s cross was just too high. The win puts Ilkeston level on points with Worksop.

WORKSOP'S MATCH REPORT
REPORT: ILKESTON TOWN 3-0 TIGERS
08 December 2024
It proved to be an afternoon to forget for Worksop Town after the Tigers were beaten convincingly 3-0 by Ilkeston Town at the Microlise New Manor Ground
A brace from former Tiger Colin Daniel and a special strike from Connor Dixon condemned Craig Parry’s side to a disappointing defeat at the Microlise New Manor Ground.
The first half played out a very cagey affair, with both sides managing the difficult conditions and unable to create any real chances of note and lacking quality in possession.
The best chance for the hosts came when Thomas Cursons volleyed wide after the wind looped a clearance back into the Worksop box.
Worksop’s clearest sight of goal in the half came when Luke Hall broke away down the left flank. The winger picked out Aleks Starcenko as he arrived late on the edge of the box, however, the midfielder's curling effort was deflected over the bar.
However, it would be the hosts who started the fastest in the second half, as Daniel rifled a low free-kick past Tommy Taylor four minutes after the interval.
Six minutes later Daniel would unfortunately double the hosts lead. A deep corner was met at the back post by captain Thomas Marshall, who nodded down into the six yard box for Daniel to smash home emphatically on his left foot past Taylor.
Things would go from bad to worse for Parry’s side. Two minutes later captain Hamza Bencherif was sent off for a shove in the back of Jordan Stevens as the forward raced in on goal down the left flank.
A calamitous 15 minutes for Worksop was dealt another major blow as Dixon beat Joe Leesley to a loose ball in the middle of the pitch, which allowed the midfielder to drive inwards and curl expertly into the top corner with his left foot.
The chances continued to arrive for Ilkeston, with Taylor being forced to make a handful of smart stops with both his hands and feet. Unfortunately, the sloppiness in possession continued and Worksop were unable to mount any real comeback or test Matt Yates in the Ilkeston goal.
The Tigers' attention will now turn to a return to the Windsor Foodservice Stadium against Leek Town next Saturday.
Worksop Town Lineup

Now you gotta believe it. Deaks has us on course for a realistic playoff challenge.
Four wins on the bounce and performances are getting better week by week. The feeling is that we now have a squad capable of getting results. Colin Daniel and Jordan Stevens are now showing why Deaks signed them. We're almost certain to lose Tom Cursons in the very near future and that will be a big loss but the money we get for him should enable us to strengthen the side further.
What a brilliant second half performance against Worksop, one of the league's top sides. We expected a tough game but we absolutely murdered them and they were pleased to only concede three goals. The whole team played well and the 4 wins against Rylands, Hebburn, Matlock and Worksop has really lifted confidence and expectations.

Am I seeing things? Their media gave man of the match to their keeper 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It was him who dropped the bollock for the 1st goal.
Still don't know how that goal as disallowed.
Even decks say he doesn't know why.

Re. the disallowed goal, I agree, there seemed no reason to disallow it.
I listened to Mark Frost talking to the referee's assessor after the match. Mark said that he thought the red card was a bit harsh. {I thought it was a red in real time but after watching the replay I agree with Mark that it was more like a yellow.)
The assessor explained with diagrams why it was a red card . Apparently the rule is:, if the attacking player would have been able to have a strike at goal had he not been fouled, then it's a red card.
To be fair, I thought overall the ref was good.

He should have been booked for a elbow on TC about 5 minutes beforehand.
This is the same player which got away with one at there place when he smashed JW after 2 minutes

Bencherif is their enforcer. He gets away with plenty of intimidation every match so he couldn't complain

The high winds and heavy rain caused by Storm Darragh meant just three games survived the elements in the Northern Premier League's top division on Saturday.
With Macclesfield in FA Trophy action, Guiseley closed the gap at the top to 12 points with a 3-1 win at home to Whitby Town. Will Longbottom continued his fine start to the campaign with two more goals, adding to Jameel Ible's 18th minute opener as he moved onto a league-high 16 goals for the season. Adam Gell did level for Whitby shortly after the half-hour mark, but the Seasiders fell short against a Guiseley side who are now nine games unbeaten in the league.
Elsewhere, in perhaps the game of the weekend, three goals in 13 second-half minutes were enough to see Ilkeston Town past Worksop Town. Colin Daniel scored twice for the Robins, who are now locked on 35 points with third-placed Worksop but below them on goal difference.
The only other game of the weekend came at Harrison Park, where Hyde United climbed back into the top five with a 1-1 against Leek Town. Substitute Ayo Quadri scored seconds after his introduction for Hyde as the game entered the final 20 minutes, cancelling out Hayden Campbell's first-half opener for Leek. A point keeps the Blues second-bottom in the table, but they're now just two points from safety.
