No match for us but some very interesting fixtures in the NPL Premier this weekend. The big match at the top is between promotion rivals Worksop and Guiseley. Can Worksop end Guiseley’s 16 game unbeaten run? The only predictable games, if any can be, are Macclesfield against Basford and Ashton and against Prescot. Stockton and Hebburn have a chance to close the gap on Ilkeston who are in the final playoff position but both have tough matches against Gainsborough and Lancaster respectively. Whitby play Workington in a East v West coast tussle. Whitby have a poor home record and Workington have a poor away record so that match could go either way. Hyde and Morpeth are both on 34 points. Matlock and FC United are only separated by 2 points and are both in good form but Matlock with home advantage should edge it. Blyth are adrift at the bottom and haven’t won in sixteen. Their home game against struggling Mickleover will be seen as a last chance saloon. Bamber Bridge are another team at the wrong end of the table and they meet in-form Warrington Rylands.

Montel Gibson been sent off. For 2 yellows. I've read his 1st yellow . He went off the pitch to change his boots then ran back on without asking the ref.
Silly boy

Why no game.. on a Sat? Before today, I had not lodged my speculative £1 bet, and around 3pm I had (sadly) resigned myself to not so doing. BUT no game? There seems to be weird games not happening for a league often chasing catch-up games? Just an outside observation..

Northern Premier League's Round Up of matches played 25th Jan 2025
Guiseley equalled a league-best 17 game unbeaten run, while Blyth Spartans ended their run of 16 games without a win in the latest round of Northern Premier League fixtures.
Michael Connor’s Spartans tasted victory in the league for the first time since his November appointment, as second-half goals from Cyril Giraud and Charlie Aitken secured a 2-1 win over Mickleover. Blyth, who came from behind to clinch all three points, remain bottom of the table but have now cut the gap between themselves and their nearest rivals to eight points.
Basford United now hold the unwanted record of the most league games without a win, as a 1-0 victory for Macclesfield extended their winless run to 11. Luke Duffy struck just past the half-hour mark to deliver a third straight win for the Silkmen.
Robbie Savage’s side remain 16 points clear atop the division due to a fifth straight win for Guiseley, who blew past Worksop Town to maintain their excellent form. Four different goal scorers netted for Mark Bowers’ side as they ran out 4-1 winners at Sandy Lane.
Ashton United could not win a fifth straight game themselves, after a late James Foley strike saw Prescot Cables pick up their first league win since late October. Victory was enough to see Cables climb out of the bottom four, while Ashton remain third.
Bamber Bridge fell into the relegation zone after they were heavily beaten 4-0 at home by Warrington Rylands. All four goals came in the first half, with the win seeing Rylands climb into the top half, having last tasted defeat over two months ago.
Elsewhere, Stockton Town missed out on the chance to cut the gap between themselves and the top five as Gainsborough Trinity ran out 3-2 winners in the north-east. Dec Howe netted twice as the Holy Blues halted a seven game winless run to climb up to 15th.
An 88th minute equaliser from Dylan Moonan rescued a point for Lancaster City at home to Hebburn Town, with the two sides drawing 2-2. The Hornets have now drawn three of their last five games, while Lancaster shared the spoils for a league-high 13th time this season.
2-2 was also the scoreline at the Proctor Cars Stadium, where Matlock Town played out an eventful encounter against FC United of Manchester. Matlock were reduced to 10 men with the score at 1-1, with Montel Gibson receiving two first-half yellow cards. Despite this, Ryan Cresswell’s side went into the break ahead, but FC United equalised eight minutes after the restart, Dylan Mottley-Henry the scorer, to ensure the points were shared.
Nothing could separate Hyde United and Morpeth Town as the two drew 1-1, with a last-minute leveller from Morpeth’s Danny Barlow.
And Workington won 3-1 against Whitby Town for the second time this season. Securing the league double over their opponents saw the Reds leapfrog their opponents into 14th, with Whitby dropping down to 16th.
