What a turnaround.  Hebburn pressing and Ilkeston having to defend. Big chance for Purewal but he doesn't connect with the pass. Daniel replaced by Hardwick.

We're under a lot of pressure.  Hebburn shot is only just too high. Yates gets a yellow for taking too long.  Essien fouled near the corner flag.  Foul by Parker gives Hebburn a free kick chance.   shot is blocked and follow up goes over.      HEBBURN 0 Ilkeston 1. 83 MINS

Re: Sat 5th Apr 2025 - Hebburn v Ilkeston - KO 3pm

I'm not 100% sure what happened at the end.. Ilkeston's corner was scrambled clear by Hebburn then the  ref saw his lino flagging. The ref then went back and gave Ilkeston a penalty. A Hebburn player definitely got a red card but some people were saying that an Ilkeston player also got a red card.  Anyway massive credit to Tom Marshall who took responsibility and nearly burst the net as he went for power with the penalty..

Re: Sat 5th Apr 2025 - Hebburn v Ilkeston - KO 3pm

Apparently no ilkeston player received a red card, just Joe Walton of Hebburn.

I heard that as Walton left the field, one of the Hebburn coaches said something to him and received a head butt from the enraged Walton.

Ilkeston were again involved in late drama at their match in the North East. The Robins dominated the first half and should have led by more than the single goal by Lindon Meikle but it was a different story in the second half when Hebburn seized the initiative. In the final minute of normal time Olly Martin looked to have rescued a point for the hosts but there was another twist to come in added time. Ilkeston won a corner which was swung into the packed goalmouth. Hebburn thought that they had scrambled the ball clear. But the linesman was waving his flag vigorously. The referee consulted with him, showed a red card to Hebburn’s Joe Walton and pointed to the spot. A delay followed as Hebburn disputed the award before Ilkeston skipper Tom Marshall took responsibility and smashed in the winner.

Ilkeston were first to attack but when Hebburn countered Jaden Charles was adjudged to have fouled Daniel Savage and the ref pointed to the spot. Justice was done however when Matt Yates saved Joe Posthill’s spot kick with his trailing foot. From then on Ilkeston were in control and Lindon Meikle put then ahead with a superb shot from the edge of the are into the corner of the net. It was not long before Ilkeston found the net again when Harvey Kirby-Moore  was the finisher of a fine move but an offside flag was raised. Ilkeston were so much on top that it didn’t seem to matter and twice Colin Daniel saw shots go just too high. Connor Dixon was next to go close with a cracking shot which brought a brilliant save from Dan Cameron. Hebburn finished the half strongly and two chances fell to Amar Purewal but both times he was off target.

Hebburn came out for second half looking a different team and Yates was tested by Matthew Eldson’s volley. Yates did well to gather Savage’s excellent cross then Purewal looked to have a great chance from Liam Noble’s cross but he couldn’t quite connect with it. On 78 minutes Eldson fired just over the Ilkeston crossbar as Hebburn’s pressure increased. Yates kept Ilkeston ahead with a fine save then a Hebburn free kick was blocked and the followup blasted over. Hebburn’s pressure finally told on 90 minutes when Olly Martin raced through, got round Yates and put the ball into the net. But 3 minutes into added time Ilkeston forced a corner. The goalmouth was packed as the ball came over. There was a scramble and Hebburn thought they had cleared. But the linesman was flagging furiously. Walton saw red and Marshall blasted home the penalty.

Apparently Harvey Kirby-Moore was black and blue after the game following the kicking he received all afternoon. It seems that Walton had a final go at him when he thought the ref wasn't looking right at the end. But the lino saw it and he made sure that the ref knew about it. A penalty was given and Walton's nasty assault cost Hebburn the point they had worked so hard for.

Connor Dixon was Ilkeston's driving force in the first half but he didn't come out for the second half. Jordan Stevens oozes class and sometimes the other players aren't prepared for the passes he makes. Matt Yates was superb and all the defenders did well in the second half. Lindon Meikle's goal was quality. Massive credit to Tom Marshall for taking responsibility for penalty at the death. He wanted it and smashed it in with full power. When he got on the bus he certainly let everyone know how pleased he was..

NPL Preview 5th Apr 25

Whitby Town picked up an important three points in their fight for Northern Premier League survival, climbing out of the relegation zone after a 1-0 win at Lancaster City.  The only goal came deep into second-half stoppage time, with Layton Watts converting from the penalty spot to help the Seasiders escape the bottom four and inflict defeat on Jimmy Marshall in his first game as Lancaster boss. Whitby were the only side in the bottom seven to claim maximum points, with five of the other six sides falling to defeat.
Mickleover were the only team to avoid that fate, although a 1-1 draw at home to FC United of Manchester still leaves them 11 points from safety with 12 up for grabs.  Already-relegated Blyth Spartans lost 3-2 in a thrilling affair at Hyde United, who picked up their first home win since the start of March.
Of the other sides now in the bottom four, Basford United and Matlock Town suffered 2-1 defeats at home to Ashton United and Morpeth Town respectively. Both were beaten in similar circumstances - Ashton scoring in the 89th minute to snatch all three points and strengthen their play-off hopes, and Charlie Oglesby netting an 82nd minute own-goal to see Morpeth come from behind to win at the Proctor Cars Stadium, keeping their slim play-off hopes alive. Matlock are now three points behind fifth-bottom Whitby having fallen below them into the drop zone, whereas Basford United are eight points from safety and have an inferior goal difference to the teams above.
Bamber Bridge remain firmly in the relegation mix as Lucas Weir's 19th minute winner saw Leek Town climb to 13th in the table with a 1-0 win.
At the right end of the division, champions Macclesfield came from two goals down to defeat Workington 3-2 at the Leasing.com Stadium.  John Rooney scored the winner in the 90th minute as Robbie Savage's side made it nine win in a row.  They are now just seven points behind Darlington's Northern Premier League points record of 104, set during the 2015/16 season when 46 games were played during the regular season compared to 42.
Second-placed Worksop Town fell to a surprise 3-0 defeat at Stockton Town, who were the big winners in the battle to earn home advantage in the play-offs. A stunning display means the Anchors are now just two points behind third-placed Guiseley, who were held to a 1-1 draw at Warrington Rylands. Neil Reynolds' Blues bolstered their top-half position and have risen to 10th, courtesy of George Waring's close-range finish six minutes from time.
Ilkeston Town remain in the fight for the top five after a dramatic late 2-1 win at Hebburn Town. Hebburn substitute Olly Martin had drawn his side level in the 90th minute, only for Ilkeston to be awarded a last-gasp penalty - Joe Walton seeing red for a second bookable offence as a result - which Robins captain Thomas Marshall duly converted.
The only other game of the weekend also came with its fair share of drama, as Prescot Cables came from two goals behind with five minutes to go to win 3-2 at Gainsborough Trinity. Having been reduced to 10 men shortly before Lewis Butroid put the Holy Blues 2-1 up before the hour mark, Cables rallied in the final quarter to earn maximum points. Substitute James Foley converted from the penalty spot in the 85th minute, then John Murphy struck in the third minute of second-half stoppage time to complete a remarkable comeback - and one which mathematically confirms Cables' status in the division for another season.

Results - Saturday 5 April
Basford United 1-2 Ashton United
Gainsborough Trinity 2-3 Prescot Cables
Hebburn Town 1-2 Ilkeston Town
Hyde United 3-2 Blyth Spartans
Lancaster City 0-1 Whitby Town
Leek Town 1-0 Bamber Bridge
Macclesfield 3-2 Workington
Matlock Town 1-2 Morpeth Town
Mickleover 1-1 FC United of Manchester
Stockton Town 3-0 Worksop Town
Warrington Rylands 1-1 Guiseley
