Got back from Hebburn an hour ago. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong tonight.
Conceded a goal after just 4 minutes
Out performed all over the pitch
Another red card
lost count of the yellow cards
Gave away two penalties
Hebburn player allowed to head home unchallenged.
Picked up more injuries (Parker, Essien and Walker)

Tue 18th November 2025
Northern Premier League
Hebburn Town 5 Ilkeston Town 0
Acting manager Craig Swinscoe apologised to the fans who made the long journey after Ilkeston took a hammering at Hebburn. It was a woeful performance in the pouring rain which started badly and got worse. Hebburn took just 3 minutes to take the lead and after 29 minutes Ilkeston were reduced to ten players when Seth Okyere saw red after committing a last man offence.
Hebburn made light work of the conditions while Ilkeston floundered and Liam Murray opened the scoring after leaving defenders in his wake and firing past Alfie Roberts. Cameron Darcy was next to have a go but his effort was too high. The same player then forced Roberts to save his low effort. With Ilkeston struggling to get a foothold they suffered an injury blow when Sam Parker had go off and this was quickly followed by a second Hebburn goal and a red card for Okyere. Gary Martin slammed home the resultant penalty to double Hebburn’s lead. The rain got heavier and after 35 minutes it was 3-0 when Micky Turner was left unmarked in the area and allowed to head home a Rob Briggs cross. With a player short Ilkeston couldn’t muster a reply so trailed by three at half time.
Ilkeston started the second half looking more secure but it didn’t last and Hebburn were awarded another penalty on 58 minutes for a handball which Martin converted again. As Hebburn relaxed Ilkeston were able to push forward and a Dylan Youmbi effort flew over the bar, Another Youmbi attempt was only just wide. Just when Ilkeston were enjoying some late ascendency Hebburn struck again. Roberts did well to parry a close range effort but Martin was there to force the ball over the line to complete a hat-trick.

I think that it’s time to face up to the fact that we have a disciplinary problem. Seven red cards by November and countless yellows is clearly not acceptable. I know yellows are easily come by and we want our players to be combative but it seems that we need to be educating the players in how to avoid receiving cards.
Last night surely it would have been better if Seth Okyere had allowed their player a chance to score rather than concede a penalty and lose him for the remainder of the match and then for a period of suspension.
I know it’s easy to say in retrospect. Cards are shown for so many minor offences now and players need to be so careful to avoid them unnecessarily.

You are spot on about the disciplinary record and the management need to to try cut down on the needless yellow cards. Saying that in the four games I have seen this season I would describe the teams playing style as combative and disruptive rather than pure football. There is always room for this style of play but its not pretty to watch particularly if they are not getting results but you do end up getting more cards than WH Smiths with this tactic. I don't know if this tactic is intentional or used out of necessity with the number of injuries but it is a hard watch. To be fair to the team and management I have only seen four games and in the rest of the games they may have played like Barcelona in their heyday and I just catch them on an off day.
