Re: Sat 20 Dec 25 : Gainsborough v Ilkeston : ko 3pm

Gains corner in the fog. Good ball by Blaize to Youmbi but he’s brilliantly tackled.  Brandy on for Youmbi.    0-0.  79 mins

both teams trying to win now.  Chance for Ilkeston on the counter but ref stops play.  It’s Ilkeston free kick.
Daniels free kick hits the wall.
4 minutes added

Re: Sat 20 Dec 25 : Gainsborough v Ilkeston : ko 3pm

It was Alnwick Town 0 Sunderland RCA 0 here as well so no goals all round! I bet you did not have ten irritating and foul mouthed eleven year olds with a drum and an immature attitude! I’m getting too old for live football and Xmas! Baaaah humbug!

Re: Sat 20 Dec 25 : Gainsborough v Ilkeston : ko 3pm

The players responded brilliantly to Deaks today and gave a heartwarming performance against a very good Gainsborough Trinity. We went there without much expectation and were treated to a terrific effort by the whole squad.  I thought Matt Thornhill was exceptional in the first half and I thought Colin Daniel was superb in the second half. Everyone else played their part in ending the losing sequence. Definitely a point gained today and well deserved.

Northern Premier League
Gainsborough Trinity 0 Ilkeston Town 0
An away draw is a welcome result when it ends a run of league defeats but this was a much improved performance by Ilkeston against a good Gainsborough Trinity side. On a sodden pitch both sides tried hard to win and produced a better game than the 0-0 scoreline might suggest.

Ilkeston started well and should have been awarded what looked like a stonewall penalty in the first 5 minutes but incredibly it wasn’t given. Gainsborough began to create chances attacking down the wings causing Callum Minkley to head clear on a couple of occasions. Trinity skipper Bobby Johnson fired narrowly wide with their best chance. Ilkeston’s best opportunity came when Jamie Walker got past his defender but Robbie Fox at the far post couldn’t quite connect with his cross. Tyler Whyle then rescued Ilkeston with a great interception to cut out Lewis Butroid’s searching through ball. The Holy Blues had another great chance to score just before half time but Alfie Roberts brilliantly saved Jonathan Margetts point blank header.

The fog began to get worse during the half time interval. Gainsborough were first to threaten with a shot which flew across Robertss goal then another attack was thwarted by an offside flag. But Ilkeston were doing better this half and Walker’s almost perfect pass to Dylan Youmbi was cut out by a defender then Fox saw his volley on the turn blocked. At the other end Roberts was in action again saving a Charlie Parks header. With ten minutes left Jackson Blaize produced a superb pass to Youmbi but when it looked like he might score he was brilliantly robbed by Parks. Colin Daniel did brilliantly to deny Gainsborough an opportunity then on 89 minutes Ilkeston had a free kick chance in a good position. Daniel stepped up but his low thunderbolt thudded against the defensive wall. Both sides searched for an added time winner in the fog but the match ended goalless with Ian Deakin the happier manager.
