Competitiveness of the four Step 3 Leagues

.
Points difference between top team and bottom team in each Step 3 league.

Northern Premier
Hednesford        57 points
Workington        29 points
Difference.                           28 points

Southern Premier Central
Spalding             73 points
Royston              18 points
Difference                             55 points

Southern Premier South
Walton & H         73 points
Tiverton              14 points
Difference                             59 points

Isthmian Premier
Folkstone Inv      77 points
Canvey Island.    22 points
Difference                               55 points

The difference between the points scored between the top and bottom teams in each league indicates that the Northern Prem is the most competitive as the points difference between top and bottom is much smaller than in the other three leagues.

Northern Prem points difference is approx half that of the other leagues

Re: Competitiveness of the four Step 3 Leagues

I did the exercise again using the top two and bottom two teams (which I thought may be fairer) but the result is very similar

Difference between top 2 and bottom 2 in each Step 3 league

Northern Premier
Hednesford                      57 points
Hebburn                           56 points
Top two teams points                              113 points

Workington                       29 points
Morpeth                            29 points
Bottom two  teams points                         58 points
                                                                  ————-
Difference between top 2 and bottom 2.   55 points
                                                                  ————-

Southern Premier Central
Spalding                             73 points
Harborough.                       69 points.
Top two teams points                                  142 points

Royston                              18 points
Sudbury                              22points.
Bottom two teams points                              40 points
                                                                  —————

Difference between top 2 and bottom 2     102 points

                                         —————

Southern Premier South
Walton & H                         73 points
Gloucester                          64 points
Top two teams points                                137 points

Tiverton                              14 points
Plymouth P                         30 points
Bottom two teams points                             44 points
                                                                    —————
Difference between top 2 and bottom 2        93 points
                                                                     —————

Isthmian Premier
Folkstone Inv                        77 points
Aveley                                   65 points
Top two teams points                                     142 points

Canvey Island.                      22 points
Welling Utd                           25 points
Bottom two teams points                               47 points
                                                                       ————-
Difference between top 2 and bottom 2         95 points
                                                                        ————-

Again the difference between the points scored between the top and bottom teams in each league indicates that the Northern Prem is the most competitive as the points difference between top and bottom is much smaller than in the other three leagues.

Northern Prem points difference is approx half that of the other leagues

Re: Competitiveness of the four Step 3 Leagues

Thought I'd try to question this... so looked at points between promotion spot and the top (current) relegation spot... Thinking this would rule out the shocking team/season factor.

SPC 75 to 32 = 43
SPS 76 to 34 = 42
IP 80 to 31 = 49
NPL 62 to 31 = 31

A bit closer than above, but it seems Matchman has called it right..!

.
I guess we all knew that the Northern Prem was more competitive than the Southern area Step 3 leagues without me wasting a couple of hours trying to prove it.

Well done plymrob -  You’re better than me.
That’s probably a better and much quicker way of doing it.
