Tonight's NPL fixtures

There are some important matches tonight involving promotion and relegation teams in the NPL.

Ashton v Halesowen
Blyth v Rushall
Buxton v Frickley
Darlington v Grantham
Ramsbottom v Colwyn Bay
Skelmersdale v Stamford
Sutton Coldfield v Marine
Whitby v Barwell
Workington v Matlock

Promotion hopefuls, Ashton, Blyth, Darlington and Workington are all at home and will not want to slip up.
If Whitby get a win against Barwell it makes them safe.
Stamford only have a slim chance of escape being 4 points behind Whitby; Stamford having 2 games left and Whitby having 3 games left.
Hyde (not playing tonight) could equal Whitby's points tally but have a vastly inferior goal difference.

Re: Tonight's NPL fixtures

Tonight's Results:

Ashton 3 Halesowen 0
Blyth 3 Rushall 0
Buxton 0 Frickley 2
Darlington 2 Grantham 0
Ramsbottom 2 Colwyn Bay 2
Skelmersdale 1 Stamford 4
Sutton Coldfield 4 Marine 2
Whitby 2 Barwell 1
Workington 4 Matlock 1

All four promotion contenders won. Whitby's win confirms they are now safe. Stamford's remarkable 4-1 win at Skelmersdale means they could still avoid relegation. The team they could catch is Mickleover who are 3 points ahead of them. Mickleover travel Nantwich tomorrow and if they lose, Stamford have a chance to overhaul them in the final game of the season when the two teams meet at Stamford. Mickleover currently have the advantage of a six goal better goal difference so it is vital from their perspective that they don't lose at Nantwich by a big margin.

Re: Tonight's NPL fixtures

That's our local derby settled then! I was impressed with Whitby's escape as when we played them I thought they were a very poor side. However they produced title winning form to get to safety. Stamford have struggled since they moved into the new ground. A Stamford born WhiteBall source says the Gypsy curse has finally come to fruition. Colwyn Bay and Hyde United have slipped straight through the Evo Stik Premier with successive delegations. Ramsbottom have never fully recovered from losing their management team and half their first team to ambitious Salford City last season. Ilkeston visit to Ramsbottom will I think be the last for some time!

Re: Tonight's NPL fixtures

It's really tight at the top and it seems the teams making it to the playoffs will not be decided until the final Saturday, Darlington have a chance to clinch the one automatic promotion spot tonight when they visit Whitby, Tonight's other game sees playoff hopefuls Stourbridge travel to in form Frickley. There are 5 teams battling for 4 playoff places and one of them is going to miss out. Blyth are definitely in while Salford are best placed among the other four so the other two places look like being contested by Ashton, Stoubridge and Workington. Saturday sees Stourbridge home to Salford, Ashton away to Sutton Coldfield and Workington home to Buxton. Although Stourbridge have the extra game their two final games appear more difficult than the final games of Ashton and Workington so they could miss out. However if they win at Frickley tonight that will put them definitely in the playoffs and leave Workington needing to better Ashton's result by two points on Saturday for the final spot,

Re: Tonight's NPL fixtures

Tonight's Reults:

Frickley  2 Stourbridge  1
Whitby  1  Darlington  7

Darlington are Champions and take the automatic promotion place.
Stourbridge's defeat at Frickley means the last two playoff places will be decided Saturday. With one game left Workington are a point behind Ashton and Stourbridge and have an inferior goal difference, To get into the playoffs Workington have to win and hope that either Ashton or Stourbridge don't.
