The MFL Premier Division looks much more competitive than Division One was last season. Hopefully there will be no whipping boys like Coventry Alvis and Bolehall Swifts. Of this season's Premier Division teams, South Normanton finished lowest last season but with more points than Alvis and Bolehall combined. Only 21 points separated 6th placed Rugby Town and 19th placed South Normanton Athletic. It's far more interesting when results are unpredictable and matches don't always go with form. Highgate United finished 3rd last season and have strengthened their squad. They have also added Paul Smith from Bromsgrove Sporting as joint manager so they are promotion favourites in my opinion. I know that we beat Walsall Wood twice last season but that was their only blip and they were otherwise a model of consistency and won promotion by a fair margin. I expect them to finish in the top two. Third place is more difficult to predict. Worcester City finished 4th last season. Wolverhampton Sporting and Ilkeston were both promoted. Any of these three could possibly grab third place.
At the other end of the table I think the two relegation places may go to last season's strugglers, Loughborough University and South Normanton Athletic. Hope I'm wrong about our Nottinghamshire neighbours.

Im not being pedantic but isn't South Normanton in Derbyshire ?

Thank you Reverend James. I stand corrected.

Alex - What are the above rankings for? Is it : Predicted final positions? Nicest grounds? or Something else?
If it's final positions then it's quite interesting that Walsall Wood and Ilkeston are judged to be mid table?

It's nice to see someone else's opinion. If they've been following the teams in this league for a few years then you have to respect their thoughts on the best teams. The person posting has probably placed the promoted teams (Walsall Wood, Ilkeston, Wolverhampton Sporting and Dunkirk) in mid table thinking they may take time to adjust to playing against better opposition. The surprise placing to me is Coventry United as runners up. Maybe he knows something that we don't. Coventry United are a well run club with a nice ground and big potential but last season only finished 8th. He may be right about Romulus being near the top after their relegation from the Northern Premier. I don't know how good Long Eaton are. This guy obviously thinks they're better than their Erewash neighbours.
Thank you Alex for posting that list. It's really interesting to see what others think

This same person has done every non league division so it will be interesting to see how well he does.

I've now found the League Table to which Alex was referring and comments by other posters. A couple of posters said Ilkeston and Walsall Wood are too low. Another poster says that Wolverhampton Sporting will struggle after losing their manager and a lot of players.
The guy who posted the predicted league table also predicted Division One that we played in last year. His final table is :
1 Racing Club Warwick
2 Atherstone Town
3 Lichfield
4 Leicester Road
5 Heather St Johns
6 Uttoxeter
7 Hinckley
8 Rocester
9 Coventry Copsewood
10 Littleton
11 Heath Hayes
12 Stapenhill
13 Cadbury
14 Studley
15 Brocton
16 Nuneaton Griff
17 NFK Burbage
18 Paget Rangers
19 Smithswood
20 Chelmsley Town

After the Monday night match on 20th August at Coventry United, Ilkeston will have played six league games, two matches more than most teams. We could possibly be top of the league.

I think Walsall Wood have spent big for this level. Highgate are fancied by many people. I really hope we finish top but I'm trying to be realistic. Worcester will always be there or thereabouts. Romulus will need to retain some of last seasons players. At the bottom I hope I'm wrong about S Normanton but people are righting them off. Dunkirk lost their management team after promotion and have been very quiet over the pre season. And I keep spelling old Wolfinians (St Trinians) wrong so i want them relegated ASAP!!
PS Our trip to Wembley in the Vase might hamper our promotion hopes but if we lose at Gedling MW I believe we will concentrate on and probably win the league!!!!

The wait is over. Today's the day. All of the teams and their supporters are full of optimism. Let's hope that for Ilkeston supporters this season is as enjoyable as last and we can get off to a flyer with an opening day win. After promotion last season, a top five finish would be brilliant. Good luck to all the teams.
