Re: Belper away - Live Updates

Can we end our poor run of form at Belper? Of course it will be difficult but our luck has to change sometime. Maybe we just need a break. We've been told that, on paper, we have the players to win games, so why isn't it happening for us?

Martin Carruthers has picked almost the same team in the last two matches so that is probably what he thinks is our best formation, The only difference is at number two.

Ilkeston team v Worksop
1 Ross Durrant, 2 Fabian Smith, 3 Kieran Fenton, 4 Danny Racchi, 5 Chris Robertson, 6 Dean Freeman, 7 Richard Whyman, 8 Ryan Campbell-Gordon, 9 Kieran Wells, 10 Reece Fyfe, 11 Jamie Walker.
Subs : 12 Kole Lambert, GK Richard Stainsby, 15 Jermain Hollis, 16 Alex Marshall, 13 Thomas Marshall.

Ilkeston team v Cleethorpes
1 Ross Durrant, 2 Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain, 3 Kieran Fenton, 4 Danny Racchi( C) , 5 Chris Robertson, 6 Dean Freeman, 7 Richard Whyman, 8 Ryan Campbell-Gordon, 9 Kieran Wells, 10 Reece Fyfe, 11 Jamie Walker.
Subs : 12 Kole Lambert, 13 Richard Stainsby (GK), 14 Jermain Hollis, 15 Alex Marshall, 16 Tom Marshall.

Our main problem has been the number of goals conceded. Once we’ve gone behind and chasing a game our confidence dips and we’ve looked likely to concede more. The one bright spot in a difficult recent period has been Kieran Wells who always looks likely to score. The injury to Thomas Fielding was unfortunate as he was playing well. We need to get more from Reco. He is our most gifted player so we need to get the ball to him. Reco plays better in good conditions and the recent heavy conditions have hampered him somewhat. We also need more from Jamie Walker whose goals have dried up.

This is the third of four tough matches against top five promotion contenders. We’ve lost the first two and the upcoming matches against Belper and Stamford look more difficult. We really need to put on a good show at Belper to restore some confidence. You always have a chance in a local derby and if we get any kind of result in that one then the Stamford match won’t seem so daunting. Loughborough Dynamo came close to beating Stamford on Saturday so they are not invincible.  If by some miraculous change of fortune we beat Belper and Stamford then we could be at the start of a winning run.

Re: Belper away - Live Updates

Just hope we start to gel now because leaking goals seems to be the norm at the moment . No one likes to lose but the way you lose does. But I know this will be put right .

Re: Belper away - Live Updates

Belper’s home record is     :  P7,  W5,  D1,  L1,  GF15,  GA 8   Pts 16

Ilkeston’s away record is   :  P9,  W3,  D1,  L5,  GF17,  GA20  Pts 10

Belper have won their last 2 home matches  Ilkeston have lost their last 3 away matches

Looks like a home banker. But with Ilkeston’s away support, there could be an upset.

Re: Belper away - Live Updates

Belper Town v Ilkeston Town must be the NPL South East Division's Match of the Day

The other New Year's Day matches are :
Carlton Town  v  Kidsgrove Athletic
Chasetown  v  Loughborough Dynamo
Cleethorpes Town v  Sutton Coldfield Town
Leek Town  v  Sheffield FC
Newcastle Town  v  Market Drayton Town
Spalding United  v  Lincoln United
Stamford  v  Wisbech Town
Stocksbridge Park Steels  v  Glossop North End
Worksop Town  v  Frickley Athletic

The top three teams ; Leek, Stamford and Cleethorpes all have home games and all look likely winners.
If Ilkeston were to lose then Frickley, Stocksbridge and Sheffield have a chance to go above them.

Teams in red are predicted winners
Teams in blue are predicted to draw

Good game. We deserved the draw at least I thought. Yet again their players in the second half goin down on theirs knees to get freekicks . Why do refs fall for all the time . We actually played with a fire in their bellys today .

Re: Belper away - Live Updates

In my opinion, a much better performance than of late. We certainly defended better when we were under pressure late in the game. My man of the match was Chris Robertson who won nearly all the headers that were pumped towards our goal but all of the other defenders did well too. Belper are a good side so a point for us was a good result. If anything we had the best untaken chance of the game which fell to Kieran Wells . We had a good first half when we more than held our own but Belper’s goal early in the second half gave them a boost.  Fortunately our quick equaliser stopped Belper taking control. It came from Fabian Smith's in swinging free kick which was was right by the goal line on the edge of the area like a short corner. The 753 crowd made for a decent atmosphere with both sets of supporters urging their teams on.
We only had three subs (Lambert, Stainsby and Fyfe) so where were Racchi, Campbell-Gordon, McDonald and Oxlade-Chamberlain?
Anyway, after yesterday’s performance, optimistic supporters may well feel that a point from the Stamford match is now a possibility.

Re: Belper away - Live Updates

NAILERS DRAW NEW YEAR'S DAY THRILLER AGAINST ILKESTON
BY NIGEL OLDRINI

Belper Town put on a battling display in front of a bumper New Year’s Day crowd but had to share the points after neither team could muster a winner. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of cut and thrust football with both teams contributing to a feisty local derby fixture. Belper manager Grant Black brought back Craig Nelthorpe in place of Cameron Clark who dropped to the bench while the Robins included former Nailers Kieran Wells, Jermaine Hollis and Dean Freeman in their starting line up.Danny South headed a 4th minute corner just over to set things rolling for the Nailers who created more than their fair share of chances during the game. Kieran Wells reciprocated with an 8th minute header easily saved by Ryan Musselwhite and Nathan Curtis nearly produced one of his trademark goals by cutting inside and whipping a shot just over the cross bar soon afterwards.Alex Marshall had the ball in the Belper net only to be ruled offside, and the game continued to be fast and furious with the visitors just about holding the upper hand in terms of possession. Riece Bertram’s overhead kick from Craig Nelthorpe’s 35th minute corner just cleared the cross bar, then moments later, Evan Garnett had a shot blocked before Derry Robson’s follow up effort was deflected for a corner kick. The Nailers were showing up much better as the half drew to its close and a good opportunity went begging just before the whistle when Garnett’s lay off was put wide by Alex Peterson. Kyle Bryant’s long range effort on 49 minutes sparked off a frenetic second half and Ilkeston’s Richard Wyman was even closer with an effort that fizzed past the Belper upright. The Nailers took the lead with a fine goal on 54 minutes when Alex Peterson got to Craig Nelthorpe’s corner kick ahead of everyone else and powered a header in at the near post with Ross Durrant unable to react. Belper were a whisker away from a second goal 2 minutes later when Danny South’s header was flicked on by Peterson and would have crossed the line had a Robins’ defender not been alert enough to clear the ball away.In a packed few minutes of action Ilkeston responded with an equaliser just two minutes later when Fabian Smith scored directly from a free kick that caught Ryan Musselwhite completely off guard. Evan Garnett wasn’t too far away with a 59th minute flick after a good passing move from the Nailers, and Danny Gordon’s free kick on 74 minutes flew just the wrong side of the upright Substitute George Milner produced a great solo run and pass into the feet of Alex Peterson on 77 minutes, but the Belper striker couldn’t add to his impressive season’s goals total as he lifted the ball high over the bar. Sam Wright was also close to finding a winner for the Nailers in the 86th minute but his shot took a slight deflection which was enough to send the ball wide of the target.Despite Belper producing their best performance for some weeks, especially in the second half, it wasn’t quite enough to earn maximum points and they had to settle for their second successive draw
.Belper Town: Musselwhite, Bryant, Nelthorpe, Bertram, South, Watt (Dawes 70), Robson, Wright, Peterson, Garnett (Milner 62), Curtis (Gordon 76). Unused subs: Ridley, Clark.
Ilkeston Town: Durrant, Smith (Lambert 10), Walker, Marshall, Robertson, Freeman, Hollis, Fenton, Wells, Marshall A, Wyman. Unused subs: Fyfe, Stainsby. Referee: Richard Eley
Att: 753

Re: Belper away - Live Updates

My match report ;

New Year’s Day 1st January 2020
Belper Town 1  Ilkeston Town  1
Ilkeston ended a three match losing sequence with a battling draw at Belper. The Robins edged the first half but had to withstand a strong finish by the Nailers to earn a point. Alex Peterson put Belper ahead but Fabian Smith levelled four minutes later in front of a bumper 753 Bank Holiday attendance. The first effort on target was a firm Belper header which Ross Durrant held on to. After seven minutes Ilkeston had a penalty shout for handball but their appeals were turned down, then on 12 minutes they thought they had scored when Alex Marshall headed in but this time an offside flag was raised. Ilkeston had their best chance on 35 minutes when Kieran Wells beat the offside trap but with only the keeper to beat he miss hit his shot allowing Musselwhite to save easily. Wells had another chance just before half time when he broke through again but couldn’t finish. Belper’s best efforts were by Peterson who twice fired wide. The second half saw more determination from Belper and they took the lead with a strong header by Peterson on 54 minutes. This was quickly followed by Belper very nearly scoring a second but at the other end Ilkeston were a warded a free kick about ten yards in from the left corner flag. Fabian Smith’s cross avoided every one in the packed goalmouth and curled inside the far top corner of the net. Belper then came close to regaining the lead when powerful a shot took a slight deflection and whistled just wide of the left hand upright. Danny Gordon tried to catch out Durrant with a free kick but his attempt went the wrong side of the post. The final ten minutes saw Ilkeston hanging on as Belper pressed hard for a winner but on this occasion the Ilkeston defence stood firm and a draw was achieved.
