Sutton Coldfield are five points below Ilkeston but have played five games less.
They have lost only 2 of their last ten matches P10, W 4, D 4, L 2. The two defeats were against Belper and Stocksbridge
Their home record on their 3G pitch is P11 W 5, D 2, L 4.
After a slow start (they lost their first 4 matches) they are now showing some good form.
They are unbeaten in there last six home games :
04 Feb Worksop Town won 2-0
18 Jan Glossop NE draw 1-1
04 Jan Carlton Town draw 1-1
26 Dec Chasetown won 2-1
14 Dec Stocksbridge PS won 3-0
30 Nov Wisbech Town won 2-0
Isai Ismael Marselia is thier top scorer with 10 goals
This looks like a tough game for Ilkeston on a 3G pitch they are not used to and Sutton Coldfield are. The Glossop Chairman told me that the pitch surface is difficult and when they played there, three of their players picked up injuries. Our recent form has not been good but maybe the Joe Maguire affect will change our luck.

I'm hoping Joe will mop up those loose balls that keep on dropping to the feet of the opposition strikers. I think we have a future captain in Alex Render so it will be interesting to see where Tom and Kieran Fenton play . Could be a back three or five and hitting them on the break. We should be able to play our passing game on the plastic surface although it is on these pitches with the black pellets totally in piles. We could also be effected by the strong winds forecasted tomorrow. I do believe we are due a few breaks and tomorrow could be our lucky day!

Yeah actually thought Render was very verbal which great to hear plus looked a good player . But with a name of Render he would be good in the wall at the oppositions free kicks ...lol

It's a flattering scoreline for Ilkeston. Durrant has kept us in the game with some crucial saves. The Maguire goal may turn out to be important if Ilkeston can up their game in the second half
The second half is now underway.

Sat 8th February 2020
Northern Premier League, South East Division
Sutton Coldfield Town 3 Ilkeston Town 1
Joe Maguire marked his return to Ilkeston with a goal at Sutton Coldfield but it wasn’t enough as the hosts ran out 3-1 winners. Ilkeston started well but went behind to a Isai Marselia goal which gave Sutton the impetus to dominate the rest of the half. James Beresford added a second but Maguire gave Ilkeston hope with a header in first half added time. However it turned out to be false hope as Sutton restored their two goal advantage within two minutes of the restart. Ilkeston more than held their own for the rest of the game but could not add to their solitary goal.
As expected the 3G pitch made for a lively game with the ball swinging quickly from one end to the other. Ilkeston had good possession early on but it was Sutton who went ahead with an excellent near post header by Marselia on 12 minutes. Marselia then had a good chance to double Sutton’s lead when one on one with Ross Durrant but Ilkeston’s keeper blocked the shot with his boot. Durrant then rescued Ilkeston again saving well from the lively Marselia but on 27 minutes Sutton went two up through James Beresford following a corner. Ilkeston nearly got one back on 42 minutes when Alex Marshall knocked the ball past Sutton keeper Lewis Gwilliams but the ball clipped the outside of the post. Ben Usher-Shipway created a chance for Sutton but Ilkeston went up the other end and won a corner from which Maguire made it 2-1.
The second half started disastrously for Ilkeston when Reece Gibson found himself free and expertly lobbed over Durrant and into the net. Despite the setback, Ilkeston fought their way back into the game and a Marshall header was saved by Gwilliams and a Wells header went wide but although Ilkeston were enjoying more possession Sutton almost scored a fourth following a swift counter attack led by Okoro Chinedu. Reco Fyfe saw his powerful shot go over then on 80 minutes Ilkeston were awarded a penalty when Kole Lambert was brought down. Unfortunately Alex Marshall’s shot was saved and any chance of a point was gone. Maguire went close from a free kick near the end when his shot was deflected inches wide.
Match Report by Sutton Coldfield :
SCTFC 3 - 1 ILKESTON TOWN FC BY ALEXANDER MOLONEY
Mark Sanders Reports as Sutton’s good home form continues with a solid win
Sutton played Ilkeston Town in this Northern Premier League fixture at Coles Lane. Toothy’s side for todays game was as follows: Gwilliams, Moore, Christophorou, Hurst, Mutton, Beresford, Usher- Shipway, Martin, Marselia, Gibson, Okoro.
On a sunny afternoon at Coles Lane Sutton the game started brightly with Okoro flying down the wing cutting inside the defender and firing a shot which had the keeper’s hands stinging. 14 minutes in and Moore picked the ball on the wing and fired a ball into the near post for Marselia to head low into the back of the net. 1-0 Sutton. Usher-Shipway set Gibson up with a great chance, but the defence intervened before he could make a clear connection. Marselia was put through on goal, and his shot was defended by the keeper threw his body in front of the ball to prevent a certain goal. Marselia was pushing forward at every opportunity and tackled the defender to win the ball back for Sutton. He turned the last defender and curled a fantastic ball towards the top corner but the keeper dived to put the ball out for a corner. From the corner, Gibson got a slight header at the near post to loop the ball over the keeper and towards the back post. Beresford headed the ball in for Suttons second goal. 2-0 Sutton. Gwilliams floated a ball over the top for Gibson to run through. He left the defence standing but the keeper, who was the only one alert, managed to pluck the ball from Gibson before he could get his shot away. The first half finished with Ilkeston wining a corner, and it was disaster for Sutton. Maguire rose to head past Gwilliams and from their first real effort of the game, the Ilks had started their come-back by reducing the deficit. 2-1 Sutton.
Sutton started the second half with a business about them, they were determined to get the job done. A pin point ball from Gwilliams was picked up by Gibson, who beat the defence and with only the keeper to beat, he chipped the ball over and into the gaping net to put Sutton back to their two-goal advantage. 3-1 Sutton. Usher-Shipway was still pushing forward and tried to curl a shot from distance, unfortunately it curled wide of the corner post. Toothy took off Gibson and replaced him with Powney. Usher-Shipway ran down the right and fed a great ball to Powney, but his shot was blocked bravely by the Ilkeston defender.
On 78 minutes Toothy brought on Callum Beet for Usher-Shipway to make his debut. Okoro had a brilliant run through the Ilkeston defence as he beat several defenders, but before he could get the shot off, he was tackled by the last defender. With 10 minutes to go disaster struck for Sutton as a foul in the box gifted a penalty to Ilkeston, but with Gwilliams, there is always a chance and true to form, Gwilliams dived to his left to save yet another penalty this season. Sutton saw the game out and defended well to the end. Sutton got the result they deserved and with two wins on the bounce and moving up the table, they can be confident of bringing some positivity to Coles Lane. It’s Lincoln at home next, and having beaten them away already this season, Sutton will be confident of another positive home result especially the way they have been playing this season.Well done to the lads, Toothy and the back-room staff of course.

That's right there 2 many players playing out of position.
Let's stick to one formation.
Look at the stating line up? No width no ball playing midfielder and 4 centre halfs on the pitch.
You can see why we lost.
This brings me back to reco. He is a winger not a centre midfielder. I've said this all season
