Heather St John v Coventry United abandonment

I saw where the above match had been abandoned in the 89th minute and I have been trying to find out why. Neither team gave a reason.  Heather St John have now issued a Club Statement

CLUB STATEMENT
"In the 86th minute a person invaded the pitch and assaulted a Heather player. The person was identified as being associated with Coventry United travelling supporters and it is alleged has an association with Coventry United FC.
This CUFC supporter was grabbed and escorted back towards the barrier by a CUFC player.
In the following commotion another CUFC supporter (again with an alleged association with Coventry United FC) was heard threatening to knife the Heather players. Both of these CUFC supporters were escorted off the ground (with the assistance of some CUFC supporters).
Following these incidents the match referee abandoned the match.
The match officials will file a full report of the incident and we will respond accordingly."

They then issued a further Statement
"Further to the abandonment incident on Saturday we have been made aware of another issue that occurred earlier in the match. This allegation continues to be investigated as part of our internal procedures"

Re: Heather St John v Coventry United abandonment

There are some very disturbed people watching non-league football these days. Over the years especially in the eighties and nineties we had a few fruit and nut cases ourselves but I am confident they never threatened to knife the opposition players!

Re: Heather St John v Coventry United abandonment

I seem to remember we had a bit of trouble at the NMG when Coventry United were the visitors. If i remember correctly there was a disturbance behind the Clocktower goal and the Coventry Chairman took charge of the incident. I think a Coventry supporter was ejected.

Re: Heather St John v Coventry United abandonment

Following Heather St John's Club Statement,  Coventry United have responded with the following statement ;

Coventry United Club Statement

"We are aware of the allegations that have been made from this weekends @MidlandLeague fixture Vs Heather St John. Coventry United will not discussing or commenting until The FA & the leagues governing body’s complete their investigations. "

Sounds like they're not admitting to anything until they have to.

Re: Heather St John v Coventry United abandonment

Coventry United are currently top of the MFL Premier Division. If they finish top they will be automatically promoted to step 4 (same as us).  There's something to look forward to.

Coventry United lead the table by 4 points but they could still be overtaken by Sporting Khalsa, Newark Flowserve, Heather St Johns or Walsall Wood.

          Coventry Utd………..  P 27,   Points  56
          Sporting Khalsa…….  P 24,   Points  52
          Newark Flowserve      P 27,   Points  51
          Heather St Johns        P 26,   Points  50
          Walsall Wood              P 22,   Points  40

Re: Heather St John v Coventry United abandonment

Not forget going to their ground where Coventry rugby play . I was a tad loud that day at the back of the stand. We were robbed that day . Plus the real pub over the car park was a good plus .

According to this we may avoid the delights of entertaining Coventry United next season. Although where is Yaxley?

Re: Heather St John v Coventry United abandonment

Games against Grantham Town and Shepshed Dynamo should be interesting. The league looks a bit like one that Ilkeston Town were in in the late fifties when the Central Alliance took in loads of teams that eventually joined the United Counties League. Some long journeys however. I remember losing the car in Cambridge when we played United in the FA Cup and only found because Mr Skillington Junior remembered where we had parked it! Them were the days!!

Re: Heather St John v Coventry United abandonment

I think the problem is that we are stuck in the middle of the country and we can be linked with any region! It explains why we have been in the Northern Premier, Southern League, West Midlands League, North East Counties, Midland Football League and Central Midlands League. Tuesday nights away in February at Blyth, Workington, Weymouth and Dover.
I do agree that it appears we are being placed in what used to be the United Counties League catchment area. To be fair a trip to Cambridge is probably no more difficult than a trip to Glossop.
Where is Yaxley anyway?

Re: Heather St John v Coventry United abandonment

Yaxley is a big housing estate four miles south of Peterborough with a population of 9,000. Looks like a smart little ground. So its closer than Cambridge!

Re: Heather St John v Coventry United abandonment

Match Report from Coventry Observer

United await verdict of FA investigation
COVENTRY United’s fixture with Heather St John’s is the subject of an FA investigation following a heated meeting at St John’s Park last weekend. The Red and Greens, who currently top the Midland League Premier Division, were leading 2-1 up until the 87th-minute abandonment after a succession of incidents involving Coventry’s travelling support.  A United fan invaded the pitch in the closing moments before assaulting a Heather player, while threats were made from another away supporter towards the home side .It followed a first-half incident in which a Heather player spat on Coventry’s Riley O’Sullivan in the aftermath of United’s opening goal. Terry Anderson’s side will now eagerly await an update on any possible punishment, with the outcome of the result hanging firmly in the balance. Should the result stand, it would be a significant one in deciding the race for the league title and promotion, given the four-point lead that United currently enjoy at the top of the pile. Josh O’Grady’s stunner from the edge of the area sent the visitors back in front on 65 minutes, following a first-minute opener from Riley O’Sullivan that was cancelled out by Kieran Clarke’s penalty on the stroke of half-time. In what had already been a heated game prior to later events, both sides played the majority of the encounter with ten men, after red cards were displayed to Coventry’s Aaron Williams and the hosts’ Brett Fellows inside the opening ten minutes. United are now due to visit mid-table AFC Wulfrunians in Saturday’s meeting (3pm). Elsewhere at the top, defeat for fellow challengers Newark Flowserve at Sporting Khalsa moved the latter into second place on 52 points, one point above the Nottinghamshire side, after a 2-0 win at the Aspray Arena.
