Market Drayton v Ilkeston - Sat 7th March 2020 : Live Updates

Market Drayton have not been able to play at home since 8th Feb when they lost 1-0 to Stocksbridge Park Steels
Following that game they had their next two scheduled home matches against Ilkeston and Loughborough Dynamo postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
They have not won since 1st January when they beat Newcastle by 3-2
They have won only one of their 13 home games, a 2-1 win against Wisbech.
They have conceded more goals than any other team (80 goals conceded in 27 matches)
Their biggest defeats have been : 9-2 against Cleethorpes, 7-0 against Loughborough, and 6-0 against Sutton Coldfield.
However, their last three results show improved form and only 3 goals conceded
Sat 1st Feb     Lincoln Utd      (away)    drew 1-1
Sat  8th Feb    Stocksbridge   (home)   lost   0-1

Sat 15th Feb   Ilkeston            (home)    Postponed
Sat 22nd Feb  Kidsgrove        (away)   drew 1-1
Sat 29th Feb   Loughborough (home)    Postponed

Their average gate of 112 is the lowest in the league. We may be able to give that a little boost.

Re: Market Drayton v Ilkeston - Sat 7th March 2020 : Live Updates

Nice little ground with a bit of a slope from goal to goal. Ilkeston are wearing blue, Market Drayton in red.  Drayton look a really young side.  Ilkeston to kick down the slope first half.
It's kickoff time   We're off .......

Fyfe races through but brilliant tackle robs him. Lambert can't quite get enough on his header as Ilkeston look for a second.

Corner to Drayton.  It's cleared. Cullingworth cross cut out by keeper. Smith cross headed wide by Lambert. Corner conceded by Bennett. Great tackle by Marshall but he's penalised unjustly. It's a different game this half and Ilkeston's lead is fragile,       1-0    60 minutes

Keeper Agius is dealing with everything so far.  Lambert shot blocked.   Russo replaced by Green-Birch on 80 minutes. Fenton booked   82 minutes.  Free kick to Drayton in good position. Shot takes a deflection for a corner. Everybody misses it and its a goal kick.          1-0     84 minutes

Wells so close from tight angle following Ilkeston break.  Big penalty appeal as Rico appears to be  brought down but ref says no.  Looked a cert.       1-0       89  minutes

Into added time.  Free kick to Drayton.  Everybody goes up for it.  Ilkeston get it away.  Durrant gathers cross and holds on to it .

There's the whistle and Ilkeston win by a single goal.

Re: Market Drayton v Ilkeston - Sat 7th March 2020 : Live Updates

Sat 7th March 2020
Northern Premier League, South East Division
Market Drayton  0  Ilkeston Town  1

A goal by Kieran Wells a minute before half time was enough for Ilkeston to secure a third consecutive win. Ilkeston totally dominated the first half with Wells twice hitting the frame of the goal but Market Drayton almost held out. The second half with the slope and wind advantage saw the hosts do much better but Ilkeston finished worthy winners.
Wells was always Ilkeston’s danger man from crosses into the box but Drayton keeper Sam Agius was proving difficult to beat. A Wells header hit the crossbar on 18 minutes then 6 minutes later he rattled the bar again. Agius then saved low down from Kole Lambert. Next, Joe Maguire had a header cleared off the line before Drayton skipper Connor Russo tested Ross Durrant at the other end. Tom Marshall had Agius back-pedalling after seeing him off his line. Drayton had a rare chance on 38 minutes but Zac Hill miscued. Just when it seemed that the first half would be goalless Billy Bennett’s cross was headed firmly in at the back post by Wells.
The start of the second half saw Drayton have their best spell and Durrant had to make a fine save to preserve Ilkeston’s lead. Lambert headed a Fabian Smith cross wide as Ilkeston regained control but with only a fragile one goal lead Drayton stayed in the game. Lambert had a shot blocked but then Drayton got a free kick in a dangerous position which was deflected for a corner. With 5 minutes left Wells was so close to a second goal from a tight angle but his effort rolled just wide. A minute after that Ilkeston had a massive penalty shout when Reco Fyfe looked to be brought down well inside the area as he was about to shoot. It looked a certain penalty but the official in charge thought otherwise. Before the end Drayton had another free kick opportunity but Ilkeston cleared and the points were secure.
