But they have confirmed that they hope to be able to complete the season and have said that the season may go on after 31st May (the usual date by which a season normally finishes)

Re: Premiership and EFL extend abandonment

I assume that they realise that a restart on 4th April is now out of the question so have pushed the possible restart date back  bit further. It does seem to show that their preference is that the season be played out rather than abandoned altogether. Whether that turns out to be possible is uncertain.

A Sun journalist has suggested  that the season should restart and finish by the end of July.  There should then be a break in August before next season starts in September.

Re: Premiership and EFL extend abandonment

As far as the Northern Premier League is concerned I personally can't see the fixtures restarting. As far as promotion is concerned I don't think too many would complain if Leek and Stamford were given the promotion slots.

How StokeOnTrentLive reported the NPL football suspension.

Northern Premier League suspends all football from today

Decision could affect Nantwich Town's and Leek Town's promotion hopes

Football has been suspended in the Northern Premier League.
THE BetVictor Northern Premier League has joined the lead of the Premier League and the English Football League and suspended all football until further notice. Games went ahead at the weekend when professional clubs had all their games postponed, but now officials at non-league level have decided to act following the coronavirus threat. In a statement on the league’s website, they say;  “The Northern Premier League has today decided, reluctantly, to suspend all fixtures until further notice in light of the escalating Covid-19 outbreak. The League would like to congratulate the players, officials, volunteers and fans of clubs able to stage games at the weekend and notes the excellent attendances at those fixtures. Whilst the primary responsibility of the League is to the financial sustainability of its member clubs, the number of clubs reporting players or officials in self-isolation has now reached a point at which continuing to play games would severely undermine the integrity of the competition.

The NPL is well aware that clubs and fans need clarity around whether the 2019/20 season is to be suspended temporarily or permanently, and the full implications of either eventuality. The NPL will be working with the other Alliance Leagues and the Football Association, to assess the various options and to agree a way forward. As soon as we are able to, we will share that information with member clubs and their supporters. It will affect clubs such as Nantwich Town and Leek Town who are going for promotion and Stafford Rangers who are battling to avoid relegation.Nantwich’s game was called off at the weekend, but Leek were 2-0 winners at Lincoln United to remain top of the South East Division. But now it means the games involving Nantwich Town v Basford United; Leek Town v Stocksbridge Park Steels and Glossop North End v Kidsgrove Athletic on Tuesday night are postponed, along with the weekend fixtures. And the North West Counties League has announced it, too, has suspended all fixtures.Their statement reads: "Following the Government’s announcement this evening that all non essential social contact should stop immediately, the League Management Committee has agreed it has no alternative but to suspend all NWCFL fixtures with immediate effect. Obviously none of us know what will happen next but we will keep monitoring the situation and report back when we receive guidance from the FA and other authorities. We would like to wish all players, officials and supporters of our clubs and league well during this difficult time.Earlier today, the Staffs County Senior League and the Coors Sunday League announced they would be suspending all football until April 4th. The Potteries and District Sunday League have an emergency meeting tomorrow night.

Re: Premiership and EFL extend abandonment

Coronavirus effect on clubs like Dageham & Redbridge

Coronavirus may put football clubs out of business, says Dagenham director Steve Thompson: ‘Some clubs may not survive’

Many clubs at Dagenham’s level rely on hospitality and events for a large portion of their income, and Thompson can see EFL and National League clubs going to the wall if there is an extended break.“Potentially some clubs are not going to survive this,” Thompson said. “We’ve got a large social facility with two function rooms and lots of clubs in non-league, and Leagues One and Two, rely on that income.” “People will also start to think if they should be attending.” Thompson added. “Lots of the functions we have are 50th wedding anniversaries and birthday parties. Do people want their elderly relatives to attend? “It’s not just the football, it’s everything around it. We are no different to restaurants, bars and hotels who are seeing a downturn in their numbers. We’re all in the hospitality industry.” The potential ban on mass gatherings in the UK, likely to come into force next week, would take any decision to play games in the National League out of its hands. Thompson believes losses would be inevitable at football clubs, and the government should include them in any bailout package for the hospitality industry over lost earnings. “Staff will start being laid off and that’s going to have an impact on everybody,” said Thompson. “We employ a lot of part-time staff on zero-hours contracts and, if we haven’t got games or functions on, those people are not going to be employed. That will happen in bars, restaurants, hotels and football clubs. Where you are with full-time staff and players will depend on how long this lasts. ”

Thompson also dismissed the idea that Premier League clubs could be the key to supporting lower league sides financially.“We’re talking £10m to £20m just to support the National League clubs over three or four months,” he said. “Premier League clubs spend hundreds of millions, but the vast majority of that goes on salaries and those players are on contracts.”“Everyone says; get the money from the Premier League but they spend it. They can’t turn around and say, ‘We’re going to cut salaries in half, and pay for the problems the rest of football has got because of coronavirus.’ The FA does have money, not as much to support every club in the country, but they could help. The rest would have to be down to the government.”
