Stadium Plans Halted

The outbreak of Covid-19 has caused Colne’s stadium plans to be put on hold.

Discussions over a move to a new 5,000-capacity stadium, including an artificial pitch, bar area, function and changing rooms and a second grass pitch, have been ongoing for a couple of years. Addressing the fans in response to the coronavirus lockdown, and the subsequent impact on the club’s operations and playing staff, chairman Ryan Haigh provided the stadium update. He said: “Unfortunately our stadium plans are now on hold.   Two years of hard work with council officers, planners and local businesses has been halted by this horrible virus.
“The community benefits alone dictate this is a project we still plan to deliver if it is still viable and when we are all ready and able to start our lives again.

“As the proud custodian of Colne F.C. we must keep our eyes on the economic implications and pray we have a club to return to.”On the pitch, Colne had endured an indifferent league season that saw them down in 15th place in the N/West Division, albeit having played the fewest games alongside Pontefract Collieries. However, that was in part due to their excellent cup exploits, which saw them go within 90 minutes of the FA Cup first round proper.

They were beaten 5-0 by National League side Gateshead in the fourth qualifying round. They also managed a credible run in the FA Trophy too, bravely going down 3-2 to National League North side Southport in the third qualifying round.
