Matchday Programme League Round Up

Today we should have been at home to Lincoln United. As it's not going to happen this is my League Round up which  would have been in today's matchday programme.  It includes information from matches played to 14th March when the season ended prematurely.

Chasetown ended a run of three defeats with a 2-1 victory against Sheffield. Marc Newsham put Sheffield ahead but second half goals by George Cater and Jack Langston turned it round for Chasetown. Cleethorpes hit five past Spalding with three goals in the last ten minutes. Newcastle made it back to back wins thanks to a Kieran Brown goal against Frickley. Leek Town’s thirteen match winning run came to an end at Ilkeston with Kole Lambert scoring in each half. Market Drayton picked up a useful point at Kidsgrove. Oliver Jepson put Kidsgrove ahead and Conor Hughes equalised. Wisbech moved off the bottom spot when they came from behind against Lincoln United. Johnathan Williams put Lincoln ahead but replies by Jordan Macleod and Layton Maddison gave Wisbech the points. There was a long delay in the game between Loughborough Dynamo and Glossop after North End’s Papis Touray was badly injured. Mohamed Sheriff put Glossop ahead and Alex Steadman levelled before half time. Sutton Coldfield defender James Mutton was dismissed at Worksop after Ben Usher-Shipway had given them the lead. Despite being a player short for the final half hour Coldfield held on for a fourth consecutive win.

Matches Played Tue 25th Feb ’20

Matches Played Sat 29th Feb ’20
Belper Town  0  Chasetown  1
Newcastle Town  1  Ilkeston Town  2
Stamford  2  Worksop Town  1
Sutton Coldfield  1  Kidsgrove Athletic 0
Waterlogged pitches again played havoc with the fixture list and only four of the ten scheduled fixtures took place. Playoff chasers Belper Town slipped up losing 1-0 to third from bottom Chasetown.  Joshua Cooke scored the Chasetown winner 15 minutes from time.  Ilkeston came from behind to take all three points at Newcastle Town. Joshua Glover put Newcastle ahead, Kole Lambert equalised and Kieran Wells got the winner. Worksop were hugely disappointed to lose to a late Harry Vince penalty at second placed Stamford. Tendai Chitiza gave Stamford the lead and Steve McDonnell scored an equaliser which Worksop thought should have given them a point. Sutton Coldfield made it five straight wins when they defeated Kidsgrove by a single Isai Marselia strike. Coldfield and Kidsgrove are both well placed for a late playoff challenge.

Chasetown followed up their win at Belper with another good performance at Carlton. They were twice ahead through Liam Kirton and Jack Langston but had to settle for a point following a Tyler Blake double.

A welcome period of drier weather enabled every scheduled game to be played this weekend. Striker Scott Vernon hit a Cleethorpes winner at Belper with the last kick of the game. Playoff hopefuls Belper have now lost their last three. Sutton Coldfield kept their winning run going with a single goal by Reece Leek at Glossop. Carlton were on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline at Leek. Tyler Blake’s brace was not enough as Jacob Twyford scored a late winner for Leek. Jonathan Margetts and Nyle Blake each scored twice for Frickley who hit five without reply at Lincoln United. Ilkeston scored a third win on the bounce at Market Drayton though a Kieran Wells goal. Sheffield beat Worksop by 3-1 with all the goals coming in a twenty minute first half spell. Jack Langston  scored twice including a last minute winner for improving Chasetown at Stocksbridge. Back to back defeats have blunted Park Steel’s playoff ambitions. Struggling Wisbech Town picked up a useful point against mid table Loughborough Dynamo who had Luke Foster sent off.
