Re: Looking forward to next season

CARLTON TOWN

PRE SEASON SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED BUT NO FANS YET !

Carlton Town last night announced their pre season schedule after the government said pre season friendlies could commence from Saturday 1st August and the Npl season would likely start on Saturday 19th September.

Carlton could well start before that with Preliminary rounds of the Fa Cup starting on Tuesday 1st September but at the moment, the Millers will have to play behind closed doors.

Senior officials at the club will study carefully documents sent them in the coming days to see what they need to do to allow the stadium to host games and wait eagerly for news on supporters being allowed back in.

This website understands that Season ticket and admission prices will be announced in the coming days as well as details regarding the presentation night for awards from last years excellent season.

All fixtures are subject to grounds being able to implement Covid 19 regulations and are as follows.

The first fixture is a tasty one indeed with Buxton FC due to visit Stoke Lane, but unless something changes, it will sadly be without fans.

Saturday 1st August           Home  v Buxton
Tuesday 4th August           Home   v Selston
Wednesday 12th August    Away    v Hucknall Town
Saturday 15th August         Home   v Long Eaton United
Tuesday 18th August         Away     v Clifton All Whites
Saturday 22nd August       Home    v Radford FC
Tuesday 29th August         Home    v Nottingham Forest X1
Tuesday 1st September     Away     v Kimberley MW

BELPER TOWN

BLACK QUESTIONS MORALS OF SOME NON-LEAGUE CLUBS
BY DAVID LAUGHLIN

Belper boss Grant Black has questioned the morals of some non-league teams, writes Stephen Thirkill (Belper News)

The Nailers gaffer believes some clubs have been unfairly paying inflated player wages weeks after launching just giving fundraising appeals

.“My biggest gripe is there are a lot of teams in our league and the league above who are crying poverty and begging people for money,” he said.“They are offering players ridiculous money and deals when they are asking for people’s money, I think it is morally wrong.

“There are a lot of teams doing it in our league and I do not think it is right at all. “As far as I’m concerned we could have asked for money to get money in and give somebody £300 a week instead of £100 a week and improve our budget.

“It is what I am seeing a lot of teams doing at our level. It is definitely happening because I have spoken to players that I know.“The money they are giving them, they couldn't have given that money before COVID-19, never mind now.

We have lost a couple of players to teams asking for money and the deals they have been given to leave us is frightening. “If you are going to chuck money at it, brilliant - I am all for it. But you can’t go cap in hand one minute and chuck stupid deals out the next.

“I am no angel and we all have our negatives but it baffles me what is happening.” “It keeps us on our toes and we know we are doing the right thing.

”Belper returned to training on Saturday with Black and his players eager for a fresh start. And while last season offered a lot of hope for Town, Black knows that it counts for nothing now. “Last year was last year, it was brilliant and we had an unforgettable season, even though it didn’t end as we would have liked,” he added. “But that is gone and until we start again then we are starting from scratch again.

We have kept hold of a lot of players, but the past means nothing. “People are expecting us to be up there but the past means nothing, nobody has a divine right to be pushing for promotion and there will be a lot of teams who are pushing

.“Finances don’t seem to have been affected in any way when I have been talking to players. There will be more than six or seven teams giving it a push. ”It is a pressure which Black knows the club will enjoy as they look to have another crack at the play-offs and reward the loyalty of their fans. “The pressure we have is what we put on ourselves,” he added.

“Obviously we have high standards as a management team. “If we did not think we could get in the play-offs we wouldn’t be doing it. “Expectations within the club will be to go for the play-offs because we’ve kept a similar squad. “We feel we should be competing. We want to get into a position when we have 1,700 in a week not once in a blue moon.

“I hope we get a home game first fixture because there will be a massive crowd and it might entice people to keep coming each week.“Hopefully we can get a promotion or Derbyshire Senior Cup under our belt.”

Re: Looking forward to next season

This year's FA Cup

The FA wants the full 736 clubs to participate in this year's FA Cup.

In total 889 teams have applied.

Normally some Step 6 sides qualify based on the previous season’s league performance.
This year, draws will be used to select clubs from each Step 6 league.

As normal, a number of Step 3 & 4 clubs will enter the FA Cup at an earlier stage:

18 out of the 140 Step 4 clubs will enter the Cup at the Extra Preliminary Round.  15 clubs at Step 3 will enter the Cup at the Preliminary Round.
Draws shall be conducted to decide these clubs.

*

So Ilkeston will probably commence their 2020-21 FA Cup journey at the preliminary round on Saturday 12th September unless they are one of the 18 Step 4 clubs to be drawn to play in the Extra Preliminary Round on Tuesday 1st September.

                                                                              *****************

Over 100 Step 6 clubs DIDN'T apply to enter the 2020/21 FA Cup. Normally Step 6 sides qualify based on the previous season’s league performance.

Many clubs therefore assumed they hadn't qualified.

However, we've learnt that this year Step 6 clubs will be selected at random.

CHASETOWN

Chasetown FC bring in Brocton duo as preliminary pre-season schedule is unveiled

Chasetown FC have unveiled two more signings as their pre-season schedule was also confirmed.

The Scholars have moved for Brocton duo Reggie Smith and Connor Haddaway.

Boss Mark Swann will be hoping Smith can make the step up and repeat the impressive form which saw him net 36 goals in the 38 appearances for the Midland Football League side.

Haddaway follows in the footsteps of dad Paul who was a long-serving central defender for Chasetown.

Meanwhile, The Scholars have also unveiled their preliminary pre-season fixture list. However, the coronavirus crisis means all games are subject to change and will be played behind closed doors.

 • 8th August – Heath Hayes (A)
 • 15th August – TBC
 • 22nd August – Darlaston Town (A) and Lichfield City FC (A)
 • 25th August – Gresley Rovers (A)
 • 29th August – Redditch United (A)
 • 1st September – Alvechurch (H)
 • 5th September – Boldmere St Michaels (A)
 • 12th September – TBC

No fans are allowed at friendly or competitive non-league games under current rules. However, I understand the FA has submitted a proposal to the DCMS to allow spectators. If accepted, socially distanced fans in groups of 6 (or 2 households) will be allowed. Watch this space

The FA has a proposal lodged with the DCMS to allow fans at non-league. Plans are being overseen by the SGSA who advise the Government. Whilst it's not just about non-league, this draft SGSA guidance gives an indication of what clubs will need to do.  http://tinyurl.com/y5gqteou

SUTTON COLDFIELD TOWN

ADMISSION PRICES AND SEASON TICKETS FOR THE 2020/21 SEASON
BY ALEXANDER MOLONEY

The Board is pleased to announce that admission prices at Coles Lane for the new season have been held at exactly the same rate as last season!

Adult admission for all 1st team league games will be £10 full price for adults, a concession rate of £7 for anyone aged over 65 and a children's rate of £3 for under 18's.

With COVID-19 currently putting a hold to non-league football at our level, the FA has recently shown signs of a return to football for the many semi professional sides up and down the country. Currently this has not allowed for the NPL to release details of when the 2020/21 season will begin, but it is expected to begin September/October time.

We will announce the fixtures as soon as we are able to release them.

Season tickets will again be very good value for money remaining at an adult ticket costing £115 and a concession season ticket £80. Season tickets will allow admission to all home first team league fixtures (please note season tickets do not cover cup matches).Payment for season tickets may be made in credit/debit card or by electronic bank transfer. Cash can be accepted but currently is discouraged where possible. We can no longer accept payment by cheque. Season tickets will be available for purchase from tomorrow (12th July).

The Club haven't officially announced a pre-season schedule but there is a general feeling that the first friendly is Saturday 15th August against Borrowash Victoria away.  However as things stand supporters are not allowed to attend.

The FA has clarified the situation regarding fans at non-league: All games involving any Step 1-7 club should be played behind closed doors. The FA resubmitted a proposal to the DCMS which they hope will allow fans within the initially outline timescale (September).

Meanwhile at CARLTON

IT WAS A BUSY WEEKEND AT STOKE LANE COMFIRMS CHAIRMAN !

We may still be in lock down to a certain extent, but despite supporters being unable to attend Carlton’s latest friendly against Harrowby United, there was still plenty going on at Stoke Lane.

For the record , Carlton were second best in the first half , but dominated the second half and won their third pre season game on the bounce.  Harrowby impressed and provided good opposition for the Millers with Oliver Clark scoring the only goal in the 1-0 win.

Chairman Mick Garton spoke to us and comfirmed the news breaking earlier that Dan Brown had signed a contract for the forthcoming season.“Tommy and Mark spoke to me back in March and said how impressed they had been with Dan and asked if my opinion was the same, which it was, we spoke about a contract then and I indicated that myself and the club were minded to support that , then came the bombshell announcement by Boris Johnson and pretty much everything was put on hold"  “We now slowly seem to be crawling out of this nightmare, so I was happy to give this the go ahead, he’s a cracking lad whom I personally have a lot of time for and we hope he can continue with his progress going forward” concluded Garton.

“This website also understands that Carlton will now be hosting Staveley MWFC on Saturday 5th September at Stoke Lane, this is breaking news and further details will follow and it will hopefully be the first friendly spectators can attend.

An announcement will also follow this week with details of the presentation of last season’s trophys next Saturday 15th August, something Supporters will be able to attend in line with Covid 19 restrictions and the club very much want them to be part of it.

Finally work is on going on a number of projects at the ground including the new five a side grass pitch and again this website understands, Dave Hodgson will give a full update next Saturday.

Carlton are next in action at Hucknall Town this coming Wednesday 12th August at Hucknall Town, again sadly behind closed doors.

Re: Looking forward to next season

The FA has published their 2020/21 handbook. It contains this season's rules on promotion & relegation. Below is a summary of how promotion & relegation will work this season.

The full handbook can be accessed here: https://thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/fa-handbook

Fourteen Step 4 clubs will be promoted to Step 3  (ie 2 from each of the existing seven Step 4 leagues)

The number of Step 4 leagues will be increased from 7 to 8 under the reorganisation. That is why there are so many promotion places available for step 5 clubs

Whichever Step 4 club finishes bottom of their league will not be automatically relegated. They will have a chance to stay up through a playoff against a Step 5 club,

The doubling of leagues at each step will make promotion and relegation more straight forward and less contentious than before.
After the re-organisation the non-league pyramid will look like this :

Step 1     National League
Step 2     National League North and South
Step 3     made up of 4 Leagues
Step 4     made up of  8 Leagues        (previously 7)
Step 5     made up of 16 Leagues       (previously 14)

Under the FA's 2020/21 regulations:
If a non-league club declines promotion, or a playoff place, they will be relegated.

Re: Looking forward to next season

Club Statement Seasiders Fined £1,000 By Eastern Counties League

Felixstowe & Walton United FC intend to appeal against a fine of £1,000 handed by the Eastern Counties Football League.

Statement from The Executive Committee

The Management committee of the league heard the charge against the club of a breach of Rule 15, withdrawing the Reserves from the First Division North after 31st March, and made the decision to impose a fine of £1,000.

The Club have an excellent relationship with the Eastern Counties League going back 45 years.  With the extraordinary circumstances we, and every club find themselves in, difficult decisions had to be made to protect the club as a whole. The decision to withdraw the Reserves from the ECL was one that was not made lightly, but was essential to ensure we survived the effects of Covid-19.

The costs of operating a side at Step 6 amounted to a five figure sum, a sum that was impossible to sustain given the devastating impact on the club finances since March. The loss of key sponsorship, matchday and facility income, and our event programme being cancelled, has meant the club is facing a financial black hole, and despite cost savings being made throughout the club, it was felt the voluntary demotion of the Reserves to Step 7 would save 80% of the costs for Step 6, whilst still ensuring we could field a side at a good level.

We have been overwhelmed with support from so many during the last few months to fill the financial void left by Covid, a void that will increase until we can return to some kind of normality. From players forgoing wages, sponsors coming to our aid, grants from Government and sporting bodies, and most notably from our incredible supporters raising funds through our Crowdfunder and other fundraising campaigns.

To be hit with a £1,000 fine for the late withdrawal from the league, undermines the support we have received from the masses, and puts the club closer to the cliff edge, and doesn’t take into account the genuine reasons, in exceptional circumstances we find ourselves in.

Clubs are going bust left, right and centre and to be hit with a fine of this size is a real kick in the teeth after so many years of membership of the ECL.

Whilst the club understands the rules are in place to prevent late withdrawals during normal times, we are extremely disappointed that the exceptional circumstances were seemingly not taken into account in these far from normal times, and as such the club intend to exercise our right of appeal to The FA, with the hope of reducing or removing the fine.

Been down to watch first team training tonight. Good session taken by Wayne Hallcro with help by Kelvin Wilson.  The squad looks fit and ready for Saturday's first friendly.  Quite a few guest players took part.

Suspicious, Mischievous Twitter post by Frazer Watson today

Borrowash Victoria Public Bar will be open this Saturday from 12.00pm. 50p of a pint of beer And you can enjoy a great game of local football as the Vics take on Ilkeston Town KO is 3.00pm all welcome

I don't know who Frazer Watson is but Under FA and Government rules the Borrowash v Ilkeston pre-season friendly must be played without fans so is he mischief making?
If the Borrowash Victoria bar were to sell beer at 50p per pint they would be losing money.

                                                                                          ************************

Pre-season friendly match   :    Borrowash Victoria v Ilkeston Town

Officially Fans are not allowed at this match and should not travel.

Many of our fans will desperately want to go to the game and of course Clubs want fans back at matches but lets not risk further delays by proving we can't be trusted.

Being realistic, It's likely that a few fans may make the journey in hope of seeing the match.

If that happens and we are allowed in, let's not let the Club down.

I understand the FA's latest submission to the DCMS was for fans specifically at Steps 3-6. They proposed 15% capacity crowds rising to 30%. The DCMS are supportive of it. Number 10 confirmed they received it on 6th August but haven't yet made a decision either way.

                                                                       ***************

Don't like the sound of this.
I think Ilkeston's ground capacity is around 3000.
Therefore if only 15% are allowed into the NMG, that's only 450 fans.
That means attendances are going to be restricted and we will lose out in terms of support and financially.

Re: Looking forward to next season

According to Ollie Bayliss :

Ollie Bayliss @Ollie_Bayliss·4h Today’s capacity limits for Steps 3-6 are not set it stone for the whole season. They will be in place for the start of the competitive season but will then be reviewed from time to time. It’s likely that any first review would be in October.

So for Ilkeston it looks like the crowd limit for the time being will be :

200 for matches between August 22nd and 30th
400 for matches from 31st August onwards

It's a start  but it looks like these crowd limits will be in place for the FA Cup game on 12th September and the start of League matches on 19th September.

                                                                  ***********

Northern Premier League Statement :

The FA has issued updated guidelines that include a phased and limited return of spectators for clubs.

The FA worked continuously alongside the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport [DCMS], the Sports Grounds Safety Authority [SGSA] and leagues to submit detailed proposals for a phased and limited return of spectators at these levels to the UK Government.

The DCMS has now clarified its guidance on the return to recreational team sport and clubs at Steps 3-6 of the NLS and Tiers 3-4 of the WFP are permitted to accommodate a phased and limited return of spectators to fixtures. However, they must follow the UK Government’s guidance in relation to Covid-19 and The FA’s updated guidelines for the NLS or WFP respectively.

All clubs at Steps 3-6 of the NLS and Tiers 3-4 of the WFP are required to have a designated Covid-19 Officer; complete and publish bespoke risk assessments and action plans; and arrange support for Track and Trace efforts before implementing the following:

Stage One:
*
From 22 August 2020 to 30 August 2020, spectators are permitted to attend fixtures at Steps 3-6 of the NLS and Tiers 3-4 of the WFP, providing that their number does not exceed 15% of the minimum ground grading capacity at these levels or respective figures set out within The FA’s updated guidelines;
* If a club at these levels does not play any fixtures during this period, it must have played at least one pre-season or competitive fixture in accordance with its respective level of spectators before moving on to Stage Two.
* For clubs at Step 3, this means a capacity of 300.
For clubs at Step 4, this means a capacity of 200.

Stage Two:
*
From 31 August 2020, clubs at Steps 3-6 of the NLS and Tiers 3-4 of the WFP will be permitted to allow spectators to attend fixtures provided that their number does not exceed 30% of the minimum ground grading capacity at their level or the respective figures set out within The FA’s updated guidelines. However, they must be satisfied that they have been able to comply with the Government’s guidance on the return to recreational team sport and The FA’s updated guidelines.
* For clubs at Step 3, this means a capacity of 600.
For clubs at Step 4, this means a capacity of 400.

The phased and limited return of spectators at these levels will be kept under constant review in line with the UK Government’s guidelines and will be amended accordingly as required.

NPL chairman, Mark Harris said: “The news that fans can be admitted is very welcome and will help clubs to start the slow recovery from the impact of the pandemic. However, the onus is on clubs and fans to follow the guidance and to comply fully with the procedures established by every club.
The challenge now is to ensure that clubs keep fans safe, and ensure maximum compliance if we are to show that football can be trusted and thereby justify raising the capacity limits.

”The league is implementing a number of initiatives to help clubs mitigate the impact of reduced attendances, including options for live streaming, digital ticketing, the option to produce digital programmes and cashless payments.
Meetings are being held with all NPL clubs tonight and tomorrow.

                                                                                      ************

With resticted attendances, It looks like admission at Ilkeston home matches will have to be by ticket.

Just wondering how away fans will be affected under these limited attendance arrangements

Will away fans be allowed an allocation of available capacity ?

Re: Looking forward to next season

So Ilkeston will need to have one home game with a 200 crowd limit then after 31st August our crowd limit will be 400.

The 400 limit is for paying spectators. Club officials, stewards and volunteers are not included in the 400 limit.

Some of the 400 capacity must be made available to away supporters but the actual number has yet to be announced.

Some clubs are making entry on matchday by ticket purchased in advance to avoid having to turn fans away.

Just eight clubs in the Northern Premier League have average gates higher than the gates now being allowed (most are in the NPL Premier Division and Ilkeston are the only team in the South East Division).

Spare a thought for FC United who have 800 season ticket holders but can only allow 600 into their ground.

Club Statement on the new spectator regulations

FC United are pleased that we are moving to a return of spectators into non-league stadiums. Like other clubs, life in non-league is one without TV revenue and little league sponsorship; we rely on spectators attending matches and spending in our bars and food outlets to generate the revenue to pay our bills.

The sudden and abrupt end to the 2019/20 season hit us hard with six home matches worth of revenue lost and our facility shut down for five months and losing all the events and functions revenue which supplements our football.

Whilst a limited return of supporters into grounds is welcome as a first step, we are disappointed that the criteria used to work out capacity has ignored an individual ground’s size, layout and ability to safely host matches. Instead we have a one size fits all approach based on the lowest capacity requirement for entry into that step of the pyramid. The new DCMS and FA guidelines will allow us an initial 15%, rising from 31st August to 30% of the minimum capacity for step 3, which is set at 1950.

For FC United this mean that like all other clubs at our level, despite our having a 4,700 capacity stadium, we will only be allowed 300 supporters initially, rising to 600 from 31st August.

To be clear, as a club we support the need to cut capacities to a level where supporters can safely watch, adhering to government guidelines on social distancing. Like all clubs we were told to produce a risk assessment by 15th August and have spent a great deal of time creating a comprehensive 14-page manual demonstrating how we will hold matches in the new Covid era with supporter, staff and player safety at the forefront of our plans.

We have consulted extensively with the experts on our stadium Safety Advisory Group which has signed off our risk assessment. We are not looking to cut any corners or take any measures which puts anyone at risk but we must question why it has been decided that our stadium size and our ability to hold matches safely has been ignored in favour of a ‘one size fits all’ approach based on the minimum capacity allowed at our level rather than the actual capacity of our ground.

Why are we restricted to the same number of supporters as a club who has a ground less than half the size of ours? Why have individual circumstances and ability to adhere to government social distancing measures been used throughout the leisure industry, in pubs, restaurants, cinemas and leisure centres but football been treated differently?

We have spoken to our league and they have confirmed to us that this approach is contrary to what the Football Association has been requesting of the DCMS with chairman Mark Harris quoted on the BBC today:

"Having fans back is a step in the right direction but we have to recognise the decision to base the numbers around the minimum capacity at each step disadvantages those clubs who have invested in their facilities and have already got independent certification for their capacity.

"We are taking this up with the FA. We need to urgently lobby for the percentages to be based around stadium capacities. The actual percentage is not the issue. The issue is what it is a percentage of."

If 30% is deemed as the figure permitted by the DCMS for the initial return of supporters we would strongly urge that this be 30% of our actual capacity and not of a figure which bears no relation to our ability to safely deliver a match day. For us that would mean a total of around 1,400 supporters which would come close to our 1,668 average attendance from last season and give the club a fighting chance to recover.

With close to 800 season tickets already purchased by our supporters who have heeded our calls to buy early in order to help us through the current financial downturn, the new figures are below the number of tickets already sold for next season.

There have been no Premier League or EFL payments to non-league below step 2, FA Cup prize money for next season has been halved and already we have seen a number of clubs withdraw or fold, including neighbouring NPL club Droylsden FC. The non-league football pyramid is in danger and the government must allow us to safely generate the revenue we need to get through a season which will probably see postponements and extra difficulties as the pandemic continues to affect our society.

FC United have today writen to Manchester Central MP Lucy Powell asking for her support. We are coordinating with similarly affected clubs such as AFC Bury and Scarborough Athletic FC to make our voices heard and speaking to the press to explain our position.

On Saturday we are hosting our first pre-season friendly against Barrow AFC. New regulations allow for up to 300 supporters in the ground but this has come at very short notice for us as we had been working to the advice that there would be no supporters before September. We have no food, drink ready for Saturday and our SMRE bar is still operating as a food hub serving the local community and therefore won’t be accessible.

The board and management have held discussions last night and throughout today about how we can bring fans back in such low numbers and at such short notice. There is unfortunately no magic solution which will please all but equally that mustn’t stop us from trying our best, especially as we can only move to 600 supporters for the City of Liverpool match on 5th September if we have held the test event with 300 on Saturday.

We will therefore be contacting volunteers on our database who have given their time to help the club over the last 12 months to invite them to attend the match. Admission will be free of charge although there will be donation buckets if those volunteers want to donate. Unfortunately, there can be no admission for any other supporters and any turning up on the day will be turned away. Any issues may well prevent us from moving to 600 supporters for the next game on 5th September and Trafford on the 8th September.

Following a review of Saturday we will announce selling procedures for those matches next week and if things go well we hope to add one more attractive home pre-season fixture to the schedule.

For those unable to attend in person there will be live coverage of the game provided free on FCUM TV and FCUM Radio with a 12.45 ko to allow this.

Arrangements for the season will be communicated over the next couple of weeks as the situation develops.

We thank you for your patience and understanding for what is an unprecedented situation.

The FC United Board

Re: Looking forward to next season

Plus we will have to take in account of local lockdowns . I suppose it might not effect us but the likes of the higher league it will.

Re: Looking forward to next season

Tomorrow's Pre-season friendly at Gedling is by ticket (150 available ) -  At 6pm Friday: 98 tickets remaining.
Go to Unofficial Ilkeston Town FC 2020/21 facebook page to order your ticket
Adults and OAPs  £5,
5-16 year olds      £3
Under 5s              free

The Derbyshre FA have decided to cancel the Derbyshire Senior Cup competition for the 2020-21season in order to alleviate fixture congestion.

Ilkeston are considering how best to deal with the announced attendance limits at the NMG. Expect an announcement soon.

The club will probably be looking for a few volunteers to help the club on match days to comply with covid risk assessment rules. We will probably need about ten extra staff made up of 2 or 3 experienced stewards and the rest volunteers. The volunteers will be allowed into the ground in addition to the 400 maximum spectators.

Some of the maximum spectator limit has to be given to away fans so this will reduce the number of home fans who can attend. The number has not yet been decided.

There has to be one match at the NMG with 200 spectators before we can move on to the 400 limit. This could be an Under 23s fixture.

NPL chairman Mark Harris and some of the bigger clubs are lobbying the Government to base the planned spectator limits on individual ground capacities rather than a one size fits all.

Ilkeston are the only team in the NPL South East Division who are disadvantaged by the crowd restrictions. The other teams have average home attendances of under 400.
