    Select your team for the opening match

    So hard to pick a starting eleven and bench from our 21 players not having seen all of them. But this looks like a decent team sheet for our first match. Players in bold look certain starters in my opinion.

    1   Ross Durrant
    2   Kieran Fenton or James Cullingworth
    3   Billy Bennett
    4   Tom Marshall
    5   Joe Maguire
    6   Riece Bertram
    7   Alex Troke
    8   Fernando Bell-Toxtle
    9   Nat Watson
    10 Kole Lambert or Zak Goodson
    11 James Reid  

    Substitutes :
    12 James Cullingworth or Kieran Fenton 
    14 Zak Goodson or  Kole Lambert
    15 Mason Lee
    16 Alex Render
    17 Richard Stainsby (GK) 


    Players not used :

    Ben Clark
    Ayleal Dill
    Joe Wilson
    Ricco Spencer
    Mitchell Tait


    My above choices are before seeing any pre-season matches when all of the players have the chance to press their claims to be in the starting squad .    

    Would anyone pick a different opening team sheet ?

    On paper looks a very good quality team but I think we've heard that before .....

    I still think we need we will need more cover in midfield and in defence but it looks a great attacking force!!

    Now we have to add Ollie Brown-Hill into the mix. I think he is an attacking wing back in which case he could be challenging Billy Bennett for the number 3 shirt. 
    The squad is getting stronger with plenty of competition for places.

    Goalkeepers  (2)  -  Ross Durrant and Richard Stainsby
    Defenders      (6)  -  Tom Marshall, Kieran Fenton, Billy Bennett, Joe Maguire, Ollie Brown-Hill, Alex Render
    Midfield          (8)  -  Fernando Bell-Toxtle, Riece Bertram, Alex Troke, James Reid, James Cullingworth, Joe Wilson, Ricco Spencer, Mitchell Tait.
    Forwards       (6)  -  Nat Watson, Zak Goodson, Kole Lambert, Mason Lee, Ben Clark, Ayleal Dill


    What an unbelievable squad of players. 

    Ilkeston supporters  :  This is our time

    Massive thanks to Mark Clifford, David Hilton and Andrew Nally


    With this squad of players, Ilkeston should have a decent chance of being among the challengers for promotion this coming season. 
    It's going to be tough with last year's top five Leek, Stamford, Cleethorpes, Belper and Carlton likely to be challenging again.

    OLLIE MOVES TO PASTURES NEW
    BY RICHARD CURTIS

     Ollie Brown-Hill has left the Daniels to join league rivals Ilkeston Town.

    Ollie first joined Stamford in 2016 and was part of the squad that reached the first round proper of the FA cup.

    In total Ollie played in 111 games for the Daniels and scored 22 goals.  We wish him all the best for the future.

    Martin Carruthers has a great squad to choose from. The pre-season friendlies will help him to decide his first choice lineup. We certainly have competition for places in the team and cover in case of injuries. It may also be a case of what formation the manager wishes to use and which players compliment each other.

    Personally I don't think I've ever felt so optimistic before a ball has been kicked.
