A frustrating half for Ilkeston with a host of missed chances . Eastwood grew in confidence and had some good chances of their own. Manager Carruthers has  some work to do over half time.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Eastwood Community UPDATES

Not the walk in the park that many experts thought for Ilkeston. Perhaps more questions than answers after a frustrating evening playing against a ream reduced to nine men for much of the second half. In the end Ilkeston got the goals and a result that was a bit harsh on the hard working Eastwood outfit.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Eastwood Community UPDATES

Ilkeston made hard work of winning their final pre season friendly local rivals Eastwood Community. Goals from Goodson, Brown-Hill and Render secured a 3-0 win against a team who were reduced to nine man for much of the second half after having two player sent off.

Ilkeston started the game brightly with Troke having a shot well saved by Rathbone in the first minute. Bertram then had a great chance to put Ilkeston in front when he headed wide a minute later.

As Ilkeston failed to convert the numerous  chances they were creating Eastwood started to get back into the game and created a few chances of their own. Fenton missed a good chance and Goodson was denied by another excellent save by Rathbone. Just before the break Durrant had to make a last ditch stop as Anderson looked likely to score.

After the break Ilkeston started with much greater urgency and after 49 minutes Goodson swivelled and fired the ball into the roof of the net to give Ilkeston the lead. Troke came close minutes later for Ilkeston but Eastwood weathered the storm and started to get back into the game.

The course of the game was changed after 64 minutes when Eastwood’s captain Holmes was shown a red card for a very poor tackle on Bennett. In the resulting melee Moore was also dismissed for an off the ball incident.

Despite being down to nine men Eastwood were not overawed by Ilkeston’s superior possession.  The game appeared to be petering out until Ilkeston introduced a number of substitutions late in the game. On 87 minutes Brown-Hill scored with a well struck shot from twelve yards out and two minutes later Render scored a third with an excellent back post header from a corner to give Ilkeston a hard fought victory.

Ilkeston will be happy with the result but there were some aspects of the performance that raise more questions than answers and they will go into go into Saturday game against Shepshed determined to show their real potential.
