GOALL!!! Marshall gets his fifth! A lovely dinked cross from Wilde is met perfectly by the run of Marshall, who simply smashes the header past the keeper.

Re: Long Eaton Utd

GOAL!!! Marshall with a double hat-trick! The ball trembles inside the box and the battling forward slides to beat the defender and knocks it underneath the diving keeper.

SELSTON 0-12 LONG EATON UNITED  BY ROB MCNEIL

Alex Marshall netted six on his return from suspension and helped the Blues walk away with a huge 12-0 win over Selston at The Parish Hall Ground on Wednesday evening. A double from both Jamie Walker and Marshall, as well as a back-post header from Ryan Ingram, put Long Eaton 5-0 up going into half-time. The Blues were keeping no prisoners throughout the second half, as James Taylor and Matt Baker scored their first goals for the club this season, Walker added another to secure his hat-trick and Marshall managed to bag another four, extending Long Eaton’s win streak to four-in-four.
Ian Deakin began with four changes to the side that started in our FA Cup win against Bottesford Town, which may have been the reason for quite a pressured opening ten minutes from Selston. However, the Blues did open the scoring only 14 minutes into the match, when the Selston goalkeeper, Branon Meehan, came out to clear the ball, missed it, and allowed Walker to tap into an empty net. Marshall doubled Long Eaton’s lead midway through the first half – after a defensive mistake meant the ball fell to Ingram, who initially messed up the control, although Marshall was there to take-over and strike past the keeper. Minutes later, the Blues made it three. Jude Brittain worked the ball brilliantly over to Walker out on the left, who was then able to whip a deep cross straight to the feet of Marshall for a lovely finish. Three may not have seemed too far out of reach for the home side, however, two goals then came within a minute of each other, moments before the half-time whistle. Ingram got the first, latching onto a back-post cross from Marshall and converting with his head, then Walker got the second when a Charlie Wilde through ball caught the defence sleeping and allowed the winger to simply strike past Meehan.
Long Eaton were not slow out of the blocks in the second half, as it took only three minutes for Taylor to make it six. Marshall found himself one-on-one with the keeper, however, the forward showed some brilliant unselfish play as he waited and passed it over to Taylor on a bombing run for a comfortable tap in. Walker then produced a moment of magic down the right, as he received the ball from Brad Wilson, made his way to the by-line, Cruyff turned his man and on a tight angle, drilled a shot right underneath the diving keeper. Marshall got his third and the Blues eighth in the 60th minute. Romaine Graham put the ball on a plate for Marshall when his inch-perfect pass sent the forward through on goal and he was then able to place it just inside Meehan’s near post. Baker scored his first goal for the club ten minutes later, after a whipped Wilde cross allowed the defender to head towards goal, and although the header was initially saved, the rebound fell back to him for a thumping strike into the far corner. Marshall wrapped up this game with a 15-minute hat-trick, making it six on the day for him and twelve in total for the Blues. An audacious chip from close that came thanks to a brilliant pass from Paolo Piliero, a close-range header after Wilde dinked a cross into the box looking for the forwards run, and finally, a determined slide that managed to beat the defender to a loose ball and nip underneath the Selston keeper.
