Alnwick Town switched this game against Wallington to their 4G surface at Grrensfields due to the ongoing problems with the drainage at St James Park. Playing into a strong wind Alnwick looked to be in control until Wallington broke away and scored the first goal of the game. Despite the home striving to get back Alnwick went 2-0 down just before the break as they struggled to cope withe excellent Jordan Nellis. After the break with the wind behind them Alnwick looked more positive and when Ross Straughan prodded home a loose ball in the box it looked like it would be only a matter of time before they would be back on equal terms especially as super sub Mark Laws was causing havoc in the Wallington defence. Unfortunately that man Nellie had not read the script and added a third for the visitors. A penalty converted by Laws gave Alnwick hope only for Wallington to add a fourth to progress into the next round. 
Another defeat for Alnwick on the 4G but perhaps it was not the surface that was the problem but the quality of one player Jordan Nellis. He dominated the game and gave the Alnwick the run around. It was the first time I have seen the defence be dominated by one player.
Alnwick are home again on Saturday agianst Haltwhistle Jubilee in a league game and will be desperate to get back to winning ways.
