Gainsborough Trinity have made another statement of intent, unveiling former York City defender Adam Crookes as their third summer signing.
The left-sided central defender brings a wealth of experience to the Holy Blues, having played in the Football League and National League after moving on from Nottingham Forest, where he came through the youth ranks.
The arrival of the 27-year-old, who can operate in the centre of defence or at left-back, adds further depth and quality to the club’s defensive line ahead of the new season.
"I’m really pleased to get the deal done and join Gainsborough Trinity," Crookes said. "Russ and the club have been great with me ever since I signalled my interest in coming here. The club’s ambition is clear to see. "I look forward to the season ahead, and I’m excited to see what this squad can achieve together."
Despite an impressive campaign on the cup front - the club reached the second round proper of the FA Cup before losing to Football League side Harrogate Town in front of the BBC Sport cameras, and also made it to the last 16 of the FA Trophy- Russ Wilcox's side will be hoping for improvement in the league after narrowly missing out on the play-offs for a second successive season.
They have already announced the arrival of prolific forward Jonny Margetts following his departure from King's Lynn Town, while promising defender Harrison Beeden has also joined the Holy Blues after a successful spell at Lancaster City last term.
Expressing his admiration for defender Crookes, Gainsborough boss Wilcox described his latest summer arrival as a "huge signing" for the club. He added: "Adam is a player we’ve admired for some time, and I’m absolutely delighted to welcome him to our football club after he announced his departure from National League play-off team York City just a few days ago. "He’s a great age at 27 with Football League experience at Port Vale, and a National League promotion winner at Grimsby Town only three seasons ago. “Being a left-footed centre-back gives us different options and balance to the team.”
