Alnwick Town went to Jarrow with hopes of continuing the run of form that saw them climb up the Northern League Division Two table last season. Jarrow lost out on promotion in the play-offs last season so would be no pushovers and they took a three goal lead by half time with goals from Joe Bates two and Azz Jackson. The game was turned on its head when Jarrow's Josh Leonard was sent off on the hour. Euan Potts pulled one back for Alnwick three minutes later before captain Joe Eggleston added a second on seventy four minutes. Jarrow however restored their two goal lead through Ryan Hardie on sevety-nine minutes and despite Joe Eggleston getting his second of the game Jarrow ran out 4-3 winners.
Despite the defeat Alnwick will feel that they given one of the title favourites a run for their money and will be feeling confident when they take on new comers pointless Durham United on Tuesday night at St James Park with the full complement of the 274 crew behind them. Durham lost 4-3 to Boldon CA on Saturday and were 3-2 up with a Phil Kay hat trick with just three minutes remaining but managed to concede two late goals in front of just 76 fans.
