Re: Tue 16th April : Bamber Bridge v Ilkeston Town : KO 7 45pm

The penalty goal has lifted Bamber.  Free Kick to Ilkeston wide left. Nothing from it.  at the other end good save by Yates low down.  Wafula replaced by Brandy.

Re: Tue 16th April : Bamber Bridge v Ilkeston Town : KO 7 45pm

Another fine save by Yates.
He's keeping Bamber out.  Bamber find the net but the flag is raised for offside. Bould fires across goal and out. Great bit of skill by LV takes him past two defenders but his pass is intercepted.  Bamber are making a real effort.       Still 2-1  to Ilkeston

A 4-1 without playing particularly well. But we took our chances when they came.

Re: Tue 16th April : Bamber Bridge v Ilkeston Town : KO 7 45pm

.An energy sapping match at Ashton followed by another heavy going pitch tonight meant that we were not at our best but we took our chances when they came in the second half. At half time I honestly thought we were in danger of losing.  Bamber had put more into the game than us but they lacked any real goal threat. The outcome changed when Declan came on halfway through the second half, He chased everything and gave us more direction. As usual we defended well and Matt Yates was superb  making several crucial saves. Lindon scored a first goal for the club via a deflection then Alex got round their keeper to double the lead a minute later. Bamber reacted positively and pulled one back from the spot but late goals from Cursons and Walker made the win look more emphatic than it really was.  The floodlights were the poorest I have seen. From the stand it seemed like semi darkness.  But what a friendly bunch the Bamber officials and media team were. No sour grapes from them despite the scoreline being rather harsh.

Arriving back in Ilkeston at one o'clock in the morning  isn't so bad after a win

Re: Tue 16th April : Bamber Bridge v Ilkeston Town : KO 7 45pm

.
Tue 16th April 2024
Northern Premier League
Bamber Bridge  1  Ilkeston Town  4
This fixture may have been of little consequence for either side but Ilkeston’s travelling supporters don’t want the season to end. After a goalless first half, two goals inside a minute by Lindon Meikle and Alex Marshall swung the game Ilkeston’s way despite Bamber Bridge having had more of the possession. McCaulay Wilson pulled one back for the hosts but a late rally was thwarted as Tom Cursons and Jamie Walker added further goals to give a scoreline that was harsh on the hosts. Matt Yates was Ilkeston’s man of the match and was by far the busier goalkeeper.

On a soft surface Bridge started well but without testing Yates. Cursons had the first chance for Ilkeston but saw his close range effort slowed by the goalmouth mud. Bridge’s first real chance saw a blast by defender Jack Baxter thud into one of his own players causing him to need treatment. Soon after Harry Scarborough had the host’s best chance but put the ball wide. As Bridge started to get on top Sky Sinclair with a strong forward run gave Scarborough another opportunity but the striker again dragged his shot wide. Ilkeston had a chance just before half time when Connor Dixon saw his effort saved by Aiden Hunt and a scrappy first half of few chances ended without a goal.
The second half opened with more promise and Yates had to tip an early Billy Bould header over the bar. Baxter fired wide for Bridge before Luke Cox’s header was saved by Hunt at the other end. Bridge were close again when a Callum Leigh cross was met by Michael Potts but again Yates was equal to it. Bamber continued to press and Wilson’s shot from a tight angle flew over the bar but the game turned Ilkeston’s way following midfield dynamo Declan Eratt-Thompson’s introduction. Within a few minutes of his arrival Ilkeston were ahead through Lindon Meikle’s effort that took a deflection which wrong footed Hunt on 69 minutes. Sixty seconds later it was 2-0 when Alex Marshall dribbled round Hunt and slotted into the empty net. Bridge pulled one back from the penalty spot through skipper Wilson to breath new life into the hosts and Baxter was denied an equaliser by a brilliant Yates save. But with three minutes left Tom Cursons made it 3-1 after cutting inside and curling his effort past Hunt. Bridge were to concede again in added time when Cursons was brought down and Walker converted the spot kick.

Re: Tue 16th April : Bamber Bridge v Ilkeston Town : KO 7 45pm

Fair play to Deaks and his team, they're keeping our lads going until the end of the season, it was another committed performance. There's no slacking in a Deaks' team. 3 changes in defence with Perch, Cox, and Kobe Eratt-Thompson coming in, Tom Marshall back in midfield, and Jamie Walker back up front on the left.

Lovely run and finish by TC for his goal and what you don't see from the highlights is that a very similar run led to the penalty. Added a few quid to his price tag no doubt.

Really well-taken goal by Alex Marshall. We got back to the ground shortly before 1am and Alex and Tim and Annette Broadbent waited with Maggie, Vince, Brandon, and Willow until their taxi arrived and then helped them load the wheelchair in to the taxi. And then 24 hours later Alex came on at half-time for Heanor in the Derbyshire Senior Cup Final at Pride Park. Chapeau young man.

Brief highlights from the game ...

(Not the best of nights for Alex, or our new signing Markelic, or Heanor last night; a real gulf in class as Buxton beat them 5-0. Crowd was 1450.)
