We lost our first home game against Sporting Khalsa but with three excellent away wins under our belt we now need a good home performance and win against Bedworth United.
The Greenbacks have made a mixed start with two wins and two defeats. They started well with a good opening day win by 2-0 against Corby Town. They then lost 0-1 to Carlton and 1-2 to Halesowen but in between they won their FA Cup tie 2-1 against Kidsgrove.
All of Bedworth’s games so far have been against decent opposition and in their four matches they have scored five and conceded just four. This indicates that their emphasis and strength has been in defending rather than attacking.
Ilkeston go into this match on the back of a 4-0 midweek success at Daventry expecting another win but knowing that no result can be taken for granted. A good win would set us up nicely for our Bank Holiday Monday visit to Belper.
Here on WhiteBallProject there will be regular Ilkeston match updates and we also hope to provide occasional score updates from other matches in our league including two important clashes : Coleshill v Stamford and Halesowen v Belper.
These are this weekend’s Northern Premier League fixtures :
Carlton Town v Cambridge City,
Chasetown v Wisbech Town
Coleshill Town v Stamford,
Corby Town v Spalding United
Halesowen Town v Belper Town
Histon v Sutton Coldfield Town
Ilkeston Town v Bedworth United
Loughborough Dynamo v Sporting Khalsa
Soham Town Rangers v Shepshed Dynamo
Yaxley v Daventry Town

Here we go again. The matches come thick and fast at the start of the season. We've had 3 away matches and only one at home. We lost that home game so today we look for our first home win. We have new signing Patrick Paddy Power Webb available to play. I'm betting he'll be on the bench but I may be wrong, A proven striker is a very welcome addition. Bedworth are a decent side and it should be a good match. so hoping for 3 points and a 600 plus crowd.

Discipline following ill discipline!
Let’s not get carried away with beating Bedworth. They were poor. Bar their 8 not one would get anywhere near our side
They were there for the taking. We played some nice stuff first half but gave away too many daft free kicks. The one to concede the free kick for their goal was avoidable. Both bookings for the sending off were avoidable. Both in the opposition half. Both where there was no danger. Left the 10 with a mountain to climb
But they climbed it. In style. Great discipline. Held the shape brilliantly. Use of subs was great too. Worthy winners in the end but did it the hard way
Paddy up top looks like a good acquisition. Worked very hard. But this was a real team effort. The defence were top drawer. MOM for me Bennett. But most were 7 or 8/10
Not many of the good sides will lose to Bedworth. They were bang average. So we’ve avoided a banana skin
On the plus side - had Reid been on the pitch Fenton May not have been on the free kick. Perhaps a lesson to learn?
Congrats to the 10, management and subs. Great support right up to long after the whistle too

Sorry but I think we can get carried away with this result . One because they only lost by one to Halesowen who are a very good team . Two we were only playing with ten for all the second half . So yes I am getting carried away with this result we played some superb stuff in the second half . Great defending , great creative midfield , look great going forward especially when Zak was running at them , they couldn't cope with Zak.
Great result great team performance .
I actually thought we going to lose the game because of the sending off . How wrong was I . 👍

My match report :
Sat 28th August 2021
Northern Premier League -Midlands Division
Ilkeston Town 3 Bedworth United 1
Ilkeston pulled off a remarkable win in unlikely circumstances after being reduced to ten players in the first half. After James Reid saw red, supporters feared the worst but two goals in the opening ten minutes of the second half restored belief. After that it was a rearguard action and the Robins successfully defended their 3-1 lead.
Ilkeston’s first chance came on 10 minutes when Charlie Wakefield made room for himself but placed his shot wide. On 25 minutes Remaye Campbell looked certain to score from Zak Goodson’s pass but keeper Sam Lomax did really well to smother his effort. Two minutes later Ilkeston went ahead. Lomax couldn’t hold on to Goodson’s shot and Alex Troke was left with a tap in. Despite creating very little Bedworth levelled when a Joe Maguire header went into his own goal. Then came the two yellow cards for Reid and suddenly the outlook changed from positive to challenging.
A superb strike by skipper Kieran Fenton three minutes after the restart gave Ilkeston a massive boost and something to hold onto. The goal came from a free kick which he rocketed into the top corner of the net. This was quickly followed by another goal when Campbell forced the ball home after Goodson’s shot was only parried. Bedworth did their best to make their extra man count but they were kept at bay by resolute Ilkeston defending. Despite plenty of possession the Greenbacks created few real opportunities. There were a couple of close shaves including a Ross Durrant save and a desperate goal line clearance by Billy Bennett but as Bedworth pushed players forward Ilkeston could have put the game beyond them with some effective counter attacking, especially down the right flank by the outstanding Zak Goodson.
