Keeper Caldwell does really well to withstand a strong challenge by Stamford's big No 9. Luke Williamson looking good in defence for Ilkeston as is Reece Prokopiuk. Good save by Stamford keeper from Joel Searcy. Another opportunity for Searcy but his effort is way over the bar. 0-0 30 minutes

A Stamford player has been booked for a over zealous challenge. Searcy is Ilkeston's main threat and he wins a corner which Stamford scramble clear with difficulty. Now a Stamford corner but Ilkeston clear. Goal for Stamford by Tyrell Smith in 43rd minute . 0-1

Another Stamford goal on 45 minutes. Caldwell can't hold the first shot and its followed up from close range by Joel Manning 0-2
It's been an even first half but two late goals give Stamford a two goal advantage. A bit harsh on Ilkeston who have probably had more chances. it's going to be tough for Ilkeston to come back from a two goal deficit but it's not impossible.

Stamford are now playing with the assurance that a 5-1 lead gives. Stamford header from a corner is just too high. Ilkeston attack brings a corner but Stamford clear then break away and score again. 1-6 88 minutes

Tues 31st August 2021 FA Youth Cup 1st Qualifying Round
Ilkeston Town U18s 1 SFC Stamford U18s 6
After an even first half Ilkeston’s Under 18s were given a harsh lesson in finishing as they exited the FA Youth Cup at the first hurdle. After more than holding their own for 43 minutes, Ilkeston conceded twice just before half time which left them with a mountain to climb.
Ilkeston had two decent chances to take the lead in the first twenty minutes. Stamford keeper Oliver Bramley, first denied Joel Searcy after he broke free of defenders then he saved well from Chris Okoye. Ilkeston keeper Mason Caldwell did well to withstand a strong challenge from Stamford’s Harvey Smith as Stamford started to impose themselves but Ilkeston’s main threat, Searcy was soon to have two more opportunities. He was denied by another Bramley save then blasted a shot over the bar from a good position. Ilkeston were made to pay for the chances they missed when Tyrell Smith put Stamford ahead on 43 minutes and before they could recover the visitors doubled their lead right on half time. Caldwell couldn’t hold a close range effort and the follow up opportunity fell to Joel Manning who smashed in the loose ball. The half time scoreline was harsh on Ilkeston but things were to get much worse.
The second half started with a big chance for Uzair Qayyum but Bramley was saving everything thrown at him. Stamford countered quickly and it was 3-0 on 47 minutes with a clinical finish by Harvey Smith. Chris Okoye had an effort deflected for a corner before Bramley made another important save. Okoye finally got one back for Ilkeston on 54 minutes with the best goal of the match but three minutes later it was 4-1. Stamford added a fifth on 77 minutes and a sixth on 88 minutes to complete the rout.
There wasn't that much difference between the two teams. Stamford were more disciplined and took their chances. Ilkeston never stopped trying but Stamford's keeper put in a really solid perfomance. It reminded me a bit of the first team match against Hartlepool United when we didn't play that badly but conceded six.
