Mon 6th Sep - Coleshill v Ilkeston - KO 7 45pm

Tonight we visit Coleshill Town and after two games without a win it’s vital that we return to winning ways.
Coleshill have made an impressive start winning 4 of their 5 matches so far. They have beaten Wisbech 4-0, Cambridge 2-1, Sporting Khalsa 1-0 and Sutton Coldfield 1-0. Their only league defeat was 0-3 against Stamford.
We really can’t afford to drop any points tonight and an emphatic win is needed to make up for the Halesowen Cup defeat.
Our is the only match being played tonight. The other teams play on Tuesday night and Wednesday night.

A good perfomance and win tonight will set us up nicely for Saturday's important home game against Chasetown which is free admission for all.

This week’s midweek matches :
Monday 6th Sep
Coleshill v Ilkeston

Tuesday 7th Sep
Bedworth v Histon
Carlton v Sutton Coldfield
Chasetown v Halesowen
Daventry v Belper
Loughborough v Yaxley
Shepshed v Sporting Khalsa
Spalding v Stamford

Wednesday 8th Sep
Cambridge v Wisbech
Corby v Soham Town Rangers

If you can't make it to tonight's game at Coleshill, you can follow the match updates here on WhiteBallProject.

Re: Mon 6th Sep - Coleshill v Ilkeston - KO 7 45pm

There are no other games in the Northern Premier League tonight  and to be honest there are very few games any where apart from an away game for Burton Albion and a number of obscure World Cup qualifiers!

Re: Mon 6th Sep - Coleshill v Ilkeston - KO 7 45pm

5 minutes to kick off. Pack's Meadow is a quaint little compact ground. The Stand seats are low so its a ground level  watch and there are several posts obstructing the view, otherwise it's okay..
It's a warm evening and the teams are out. Ilkeston to kick off

We're off......

Bennett injured following bad tackle but no yellow for the offender. Coleshill close with a header but its offside anyway.    Now Wakefield is sent crashing into fence and Ilkeston players are not happy. Both sides surround the ref.  Coleshill have been going in really hard.      1-0    20 minutes

Marzano cross is just too high. Free kick to Ilkeston 30 yards out and central. This time Fenton effort is too high.  Vema shot stings keepers hands. Coleshill keep threatening.         3-2        66 mins

Re: Mon 6th Sep - Coleshill v Ilkeston - KO 7 45pm

Ilkeston saved by a late offside flag when Coleshill forward broke forward down the left flank..  Now there's a punch up.  Troke is flat out. It's very heated.  Waiting to see what card comes out.  Nobody booked.?   Apparently Dainty was shown a red card. The holdup lasted  a long time with loads of pushing and shoving and getting in each others faces     Still 3-2 as we enter added time.

Re: Mon 6th Sep - Coleshill v Ilkeston - KO 7 45pm

To say that was a hard fought win is an understatement. Coleshill were so aggressive. Yet it was us who received bookings for minor infringements.  They were guilty of some seriously bad fouls and got away with them. The tone was set with a really nasty tackle on Bennett followed by Wakefield being deliberately clattered into the fencing. It was really difficult for the referee. There was so much going on in the bustup near the end that I didn't see the red card for their player.
We were the better side in the first half and deserved our lead despite the non stop intimidation. Second half  after their ealy goal we had to defend which we did. We were always the better footballing side but Coleshill fought ferociously for an eaqualiser.

Re: Mon 6th Sep - Coleshill v Ilkeston - KO 7 45pm

Dug in well. Showed some balls. Said early on it wouldn’t finish 11 v 11. Ref bottled out of sending the lad off for pushing Wakefield. Serious foul play designed to injure an opponent. Red card all day

Rode our luck at times. They will intimidate teams down there. I hope our fans remember it and show them a proper atmosphere at the NMG in the return game!

MOM for me Charlie Wakefield. Great energy. Would like to see him play more central to get him on the ball more though

Re: Mon 6th Sep - Coleshill v Ilkeston - KO 7 45pm

.

Really glad that we came away with the three points after such a bruising encounter. The ref ought to have clamped down on Coleshill's over agressive and intimidating tactics early on. The incident where Wakefield was sent crashing into the pitchside fencing was right in front of me. Why the offender wasn't sent off I just don't know. Our players were always in danger of getting whacked if they held on to the ball. Hopefully we won't have picked up too many injuries.
Looking back now, Coleshill didn't create too many opportunities in the second half but they always threatened with fast breaks and high energy. When you've only got a single goal lead, there's always a danger of being hit by some misfortune. The players were warmly applauded by the fans at full time.  It will be interesting to hear Martin Carruthers after match comments.

Match Report :

Mon 6th Sep 2021 - Northern Premier League
COLESHILL TOWN  2  ILKESTON TOWN  3
Ilkeston bounced back from their FA Cup defeat with a hard fought victory over a very physical Coleshill Town who came into the game with four wins from five matches.
Coleshill went close with a header before Ilkeston went ahead on 9 minutes. The goal was made by James Reid who found Charlie Wakefield with a defence splitting pass leaving the latter to slot the ball home. Billy Bennett and Wakefield were then victims of Coleshill over aggression in quick succession and both needed lengthy treatment. The hosts found an equaliser on 27 minutes. Durrant saved the initial shot but Amarvir Sandu’s follow up was successful. Ilkeston restored their lead through Kieran Fenton when he fired home one of Ilkeston’s numerous free kicks. Ilkeston finished the half strongly and were rewarded with a third goal just before half time by Remaye Campbell.
At the start of the second half Ilkeston had two chances to go further ahead and they were punished for not taking them when Sandu made it 3-2 following a swift counter attack. Coleshill sensed that they could get something from the game and James Harrison created an opportunity for himself but sliced his shot wide. At the other end a Verma shot stung the hands of keeper Hathaway but Coleshill continued  to look for a leveller.  Alex Troke was denied by a fine save before a Wakefield shot was deflected wide after a great ball from Charlie Marzano. The highly charged game reached boiling point just before time when a melee involving nearly every player ended with Coleshill’s Gio Dainty seeing red. The sending off took some of the sting out of remaining time but Coleshill never gave up and kept pushing forward till the end. After several minutes of added time Ilkeston were relieved to come away with the points.
