Ilkeston League Opponents
When Ilkeston Town beat Soham Town Rangers last week Soham became the 443rd different team an Ilkeston team had played in a league game. At the end of November Yaxley will become the 444th team Ilkeston have played in a league game.
I have sadly compiled a list of every opponent Ilkeston Town, Ilkeston United and Ilkeston have played since the 1890s.
Can anybody guess who we played most in league matches?

It's likely to be a local side so I'm going to say Belper Town.

The answer is Sutton Town who we played a total of 110 times between 1908 and 1985. There are other teams who still exist who will no doubt surpass that total some day as Sutton Town no longer exist after a spell being known as Ashfield United and North Notts.
Another question is how many teams have we played in league matches that have also played in the Football League and which one have we played most and which were the last ones we met?

Last Football League team we met would be Workington
Other teams we've played : Salford, Burton Albion, Boston United, Glossop North End, Rushden?, Scarborough ?

Amazingly we have played 37 teams in league games that have either been ex Football League or have gone on to became Football League clubs. There are a few names who sound different but are actually the same club but a name change and there are a few teams that are reformed clubs with the same name as their Football league predecessors. Yes Mr Matchman you have got eight of them. Workington are not the last ex Football league team we have played but it is on your list!
