We are approximately a third of the way into the season and it looks like the teams most likely finish in the top five are likely to be from these seven : Halesowen, Carlton, Chasetown, Ilkeston, Coleshill, Belper and Stamford. The matches for each of these teams against each other could decide who finishes as champions and who finishes in the playoffs.
Here are their results so far:
Halesowen ...............P5, W2, D2, L1 Points 8
Belper (H) W 2-1
Chasetown (A) W 4-1
Carlton (H) D 2-2
Stamford (A) D 2-2
Ilkeston (H) L 0-1
Carlton ......................P4, W1, D2, L1 Points 5
Halesowen (A) D 2-2
Ilkeston (H) D 1-1
Belper (A) L 0-3
Coleshill (H) W 2-1
Chasetown...................P5, W4, D0, L1 Points 12
Belper (H) W 3-1
Halesowen (H) L 1-4
Ilkeston (A) W 4-3
Stamford (A) W 3-0
Coleshill (A) W 4-1
Ilkeston Town...............P6, W3, D2, L1 Points 11
Stamford (A) W 3-1
Belper (A) D 2-2
Coleshill (A) W 3-2

As things stand this is my opinion of how the league seems to be evolving. The teams in the league can be separated into four sections
1 The top seven (the contenders for promotion)
Halesowen, Carlton, Chasetown, Coleshill, Ilkeston, Belper and Stamford.
2 Upper mid table
Loughborough, Spalding, Shepshed and Sporting Khalsa
3 Lower mid table
Corby, Cambridge, Bedworth, Sutton Coldfield
4 Strugglers
Yaxley, Wisbech, Soham, Daventry, Histon
I have a feeling that the remaining matches between the teams in the top seven will decide the final league positions. With just a few exceptions. the top seven are unlikely to drop points against the other teams.
There are just a few teams capable of taking points off the promotion contenders and these are ; Loughborough, Spalding, Shepshed and Sporting Khalsa.
Of the remainder Corby, Cambridge, Bedworth and Sutton Coldfield may stay clear of the relegation zone but they and the rest ie Yaxley, Wisbech, Soham, Daventry and Histon are unlikely to trouble the leading teams.
There may be the odd upset but it's the matches when the top seven play against each other that will decide who finishes top and in the playoffs. Most people will agree that Halesowen are in pole position but this could change.

Looking at the top seven teams matches against each other:
Ilkeston have already played against all six of their top seven rivals and all of them away from home except for Chasetown. So that means that five of the six matches still to be played are at home. Home advantage should give us a great chance of maximising our points take.
Halesowen have seven matches to play against top seven rivals and four of them are away matches.
Carlton have only played against four of the top seven so far, so have eight matches still to play. These include Stamford and Chasetown twice.
Chasetown have the best record so far against their top seven rivals winning four out of five played. four of their remaining seven matches are at home.
Coleshill have played five matches against top seven teams so have seven still to play including Halesowen twice
Belper have also played five matches against top seven teams. The seven still to play include four away games
Stamford (like Carlton) have only played against four top seven teams so far so have eight matches still to play. They have to play Carlton and Belper twice.

Carlton and Coleshill are probably the least equipped to go up as their average gates are under 200. The extra travelling at Step 3 may put too much of a strain on their finances. However, that won't stop Tommy Brookbanks and Mark Harvey from trying to get Carlton promoted.
Chasetown have been this seasons surprise team doing far better than most people expected.
The other four contenders; Halesowen, Ilkeston, Belper and Stamford all have promotion ambitions and are probably the best equipped to do well at Step 3 if they can get there.

Ross Durrant's red card gives Ilkeston a problem during his suspension period. We need to NOT DROP POINTS while Ross is not available. I'm not certain how many matches he will miss. If it's three, then one will be used up against Bromsgrove Sporting in the FA Trophy. The next two scheduled matches are on 6th Nov : Corby (home) and on 13th Nov : Loughborough Dynamo (away).
But if we beat Bromsgrove then the next FA Trophy round is 13th Nov and this would take precidence over the Loughborough Dynamo league match so Ross would then only miss the one league match against Corby.
