Belper Player's Red Card in Unusual Circumstances

.

Belper's Josh Waldram was shown a yellow card on 56 minutes after stopping a Stamford attack. The lino then indicated to the referee that Waldram had come on to the field of play at half time without his knowledge. This resulted in Waldram being shown a second yellow followed by a red card.
Belper's Match Report below :

NAILERS SUFFER HEAVY DEFEAT AT STAMFORD  BY NIGEL OLDRINI
Stamford  6  Belper Town  1
Belper Town suffered a nightmare defeat against Stamford at the Zeeco Stadium on Saturday and there is no other way to to describe the afternoon’s proceedings other than an absolute disaster for the Nailers.
This result won’t define the rest of their season but coming after a sequence of fine displays that resulted in 5 wins, 16 goals and none conceded, it came as a shock to the system to say the least.
Grant Black understandably selected the same team that did so well at Spalding in mid week, and while Stamford is always a tricky place to visit there seems to be no explanation as to the calamities that befell the Nailers in the ensuing 90+ minutes.
A strong breeze and an early onslaught from the hosts suggested a difficult 45 minutes and after just 4 minutes Ollie Battersby was in action making a great save from a Connor Bartle volley. The Nailers made tentative forays into the hosts’ half but left themselves cruelly exposed to the lighting speed of the Stamford players who broke away frequently to destroy Belper with surprising ease.
Stamford opened the scoring in the 9th minute when after a series of corner kicks, Stacey Freeman arrived unseen at the far post to blast the ball in. Bartle hit another shot that required Battersby’s intervention on 11 minutes, but with the Nailers looking more settled, Brodie Litchfield nearly created an equaliser when his cross was almost prodded in by Jonathon Margetts although the assistants flag would have ruled it out.Belper’s best spell of the half came around the half hour mark when they peppered the hosts penalty area with a series of crosses that were all successfully cleared by Daniels’ rear guard.
Just as hopes were rising that the Nailers would make a game of it they were caught on the break when Cameron Johnson sped away down the left side in the 39th minute and with Harry Vince completely unmarked, the Stamford striker slid home Johnson's pass.
At 2-0 down and with a second half playing with the wind to come, Belper received a boost when Stamford’s Cosmas Matwasa was sent off for a second yellow card.
There was cautious optimism as the second half kicked off, but the danger signs were there every time time the Nailers went forward.
Josh Waldram was introduced at half time but quickly got himself booked trying to stop a Stamford break then soon afterwards, and after a long consultation with his assistant, the referee showed Waldram a second yellow, then a red card. It subsequently transpired than Waldram had come on to the field of play at half time without the assistant’s knowledge and that was why he received a second yellow.
It was after this that the Nailers went to pieces. Another swift counter by Stamford led to a a well taken goal from Jake Duffy in the 61st minute, then with Belper hopelessly undermanned at the back, Cameron Johnson embarrassed the Nailers with another easy strike on 69 minutes. Belper pulled a goal back through Jonathon Margetts 3 minutes later, but any hopes this might have given the Nailers were quashed when Harry Vince smashed home a 77th minute penalty. It was getting embarrassing to watch at this point and only a flying save from Battersby from a Zane Hakeem strike on 80 minutes, prevented another goal, but Belper’s nightmare afternoon ended with James Blunden heading home the sixth and final goal in the 82nd minute.
It was a sobering afternoon for Belper and their supporters and one to forget, however there will be better days than this to come.
