Looking at the League

The top seven seem to be pulling away now.  The automatic promotion spot and the four playoff positions appear to be any five from the current top seven :

  1  Halesowen        P14     Points 33
  2  Chasetown       P14     Points 33
  3  Ilkeston             P14     Points 32
  4  Carlton              P14     Points 31
  5  Coleshill            P14     Points 30
  6  Belper               P14     Points 28
  7  Stamford           P13     Points 26
…………………………………..........
  8  Loughborough  P14     Points 20
  9  Spalding           P14     Points 20
10  Bedworth          P14     Points 19

There is still time for another club to gatecrash the race but at present it seems unlikely.
Stamford in 7th place would be only four points off the top if they won their game in hand, that’s how tight it is.

Halesowen have always looked the strongest side and have topped the table from the start of the season
Chasetown are the surprise team and they have the best record when playing against their promotion rivals
Ilkeston are the only side to beat Halesowen and have now won their last five
Carlton’s brilliant start faltered yesterday with only a draw against bottom side Histon.
Coleshill were not expected to be near the top but they’ve won 10 out their 14 matches.
Belper were tipped to do well and with the league’s top scorer, Jonathan Margetts up front they’re always going to be challenging
Stamford have had a few hiccups but they are recognised as one of the best teams and were my favourites for promotion before the season started.

Top ten goalscorers per NPL website

Jonathan Margetts    Belper              14
Joey Butlin                Chasetown       10
Remaye Campbell   Ilkeston             9
Jack Langston          Chasetown         9
Kyle Finn                   Halesowen         8
Zak Goodson           Ilkeston             8
Kai Tonge                  Coleshill             8
Alex Troke                Ilkeston             8
Curtis Burrows          Loughborough    7
Ryan Sharman         Cambridge          7

Re: Looking at the League

This coming Saturday (13th Nov), Halesowen play Coleshill and the following Saturday (20th Nov) Chasetown play Carlton. These are the matches that affect the positions at the top of the league table..

I'm expecting Halesowen to be too good for Coleshill but the Chasetown v Carlton game could go either way.

Saturday 13th Nov Chasetown are playing in the FA Trophy giving Ilkeston the opportunity to go above them if they can win at Loughborough. Carlton are also playing in the FA Trophy.

We could go top on Saturday if Coleshill take points off Halesowen.

Re: Looking at the League

There was one match played last night.

Wed 10th November 2021
Corby Town  2  Sutton Coldfield  1
A brace by central defender Lewis White including a last minute winner saw Corby move up to 10th place in the league. Sutton Coldfield went ahead through Ryan Shaw but have now lost their last three.

Amazingly it happened - We won and Halesowen lost.  We were two points clear at the top and an added bonus was Stamford dropping two points at Histon. Chasetown could go a point above us if they won their game in hand.

Next Saturday ( 20th Nov) :  the key game of the day is Chasetown v Carlton. A draw would be the best result for Ilkeston.

After winning their opening seven league matches Halesowen have won only two of their last 8 matches. They have beaten Yaxley and Spalding, drawn with Carlton, Stamford and Loughborough and lost to Ilkeston and Coleshill

Re: Looking at the League

Dec 11 will be our 19th match (half way point in the season) when we play Sporting Khalsa for the second time. We will have played every other team once with the exception of Shepshed Dynamo. We are currently in top spot after 15 matches with the following four matches to come
Sat Nov 20  Cambridge City  (home)
           Sat Nov 27  Yaxley                 (away)

Sat Dec  4   Wisbech Town   (home)
           Sat Dec11   Sporting Khalsa (away)

Sporting Khalsa looks to be the only real test so realistically we have every chance of still being top at the half way stage.

Halesowen have the following games taking them up to 19 matches.
          Sat Nov 20  Histon                (away)
          Sat Nov 27  Soham               (home)
          Sat Dec  4   Daventry           (home)

          Sat  Dec 11  Shepshed          (away)

Chasetown have the following five games taking them up to 19 matches.
           Sat Nov 20  Carlton            (home)
           Sat Nov 27  Cambridge       (away)
           Sat Dec  4   Spalding           (home)
           Sat Dec 11  Belper               (away)

          Tue Dec 14  Shepshed        (away)

Coleshill have the following games taking them up to 19 matches
          Sat Nov 20  Spalding            (home)
          Sat Nov 27  Daventry           (away)
          Sat Dec  4   Shepshed          (home)
          Sat Dec  11 Cambridge         (away)

Carlton have the following five games taking them up to 19 matches
          Sat Nov 20  Chasetown          (away)
          Sat Nov 27  Corby                   (home)
          Sat Dec  4   Stamford             (home)
Tue Dec  7  Sporting Khalsa  (away)
          Sat Dec 14  Bedworth             (away)

Chasetown and Carlton have the more difficult looking fixtures and at least one of them will definitely drop points because they have to play against each other this coming Saturday 20th November.
