Re: Ilkeston Town v Cambridge City - November 20th 2021

Yes very cagey the first half mainly because Cambridge are a good side yes we had a bit of luck for the first goal but like others have said we had a blatant penalty turned down ( or as the ref said ... I couldn't see ) . But omg the first twenty mins in the second half we blitz them , they couldn't cope with our pace and movement . It was brilliant to watch   . A great second goal from a great move , the Criss from Trokey was superb . But he naffed up with the penalty ( which I thought wasn't a penalty to be fair) Then that Chapman hitting the post was unbelievable . Plus more chances the score could have been higher . Again I have said the score could have been higher it just shows how good we are. That for me to say that must be good .

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cambridge City - November 20th 2021

Sat 20th November 2021   Northern Premier League
Ilkeston Town  2  Cambridge City  0
A howler by Dan George gifted Ilkeston a half time lead but the Cambridge keeper redeemed himself with some outstanding second half saves. He must have wanted the ground to swallow him up but by full time everyone knew how good he was. For Ilkeston it was a seventh league win on the bounce.
The first half was even with City more than holding their own. Kieran Fenton put a free kick opportunity just wide and Charlie Wakefield made a chance for Zak Goodson that was blocked. For Cambridge, a Swift effort was blocked by Fenton and a Davis volley was too high. Robson then saw a good effort go wide as City threatened with some good counter attacks but George’s blunder just before half time allowed Goodson to give Ilkeston a lead they scarcely deserved.
The second half was very different and saw Ilkeston at their best. They started strongly and a second goal arrived on 53 minutes when Alex Troke’s cross was hammered in by Charlie Wakefield. On 60 minutes Adam Chapman’s shot against an upright was so ferocious that George had no time to react. Ilkeston piled on the pressure and had a chance to go three up from a penalty but George brilliantly pushed Troke’s spot kick wide. A nice Ilkeston passing move ended with Wakefield’s effort striking a defender. Troke saw George off his line but his long range effort cleared the bar then George made a point blank save to prevent Goodson from scoring. Ilkeston were piling up corners and headers from two of them skimmed the crossbar.  A Tommy Williams volley was blocked as City’s goal survived a continuous battering but another goal wouldn’t come. The visitors never gave up and at only two behind they were always still in the game and occasionally threatened on the counter.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cambridge City - November 20th 2021

.

Cambridge deserved to be level at half time but what a second half. We could have won by a much bigger margin with the number of chances we created. At least three top saves by their keeper including the penalty and that shot from Chapman that slammed against the post was unbelievable. Troke had an outstanding game as did Wakefield. It’s really looking good now with quality in every position and on the bench. Recent additions, Williams Chapman, and Bird have all proved to be good signings. We’ve conceded only four goals in our last nine league matches while scoring 31 goals ourselves. That’s unbelievable form.
When Halesowen had a 100% start after seven games they looked unstoppable but now the race for the automatic promotion spot is wide open and we’re definitely in there with a shout.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cambridge City - November 20th 2021

Cambridge looked like a half decent side considering their bottom half position and it’s possible they may trouble some of our rivals. Chasetown visit Cambridge next Saturday.

Belper have sneaked up the table to 4th after their  narrow win at Wisbech. After being thrashed 6-1 at Stamford they have had three streaky wins against bottom five teams. They won 2-1 at Yaxley, 3-1 against Soham (with two late goals) and 4-3 against Wisbech.

I’ve just noticed that Bedworth have the best home record over the last six matches, 5 wins and one draw. Carlton and Coleshill have to go there in December.

Stamford play their game in hand tomorrow night against Sporting Khalsa. If they win they will move up to 5th.
