Ilkeston v Marines LIVE UPDATES

Ilkeston entertain Marine today in a game which is being over shadowed by events off the field. The young Ilkeston side will have nothing to lose however and will be battling to gain three points against a team who are hovering just above the relegation candidates! Hopefully the team can brighten up what is looking like glum festive season for the Robins faithful!

Re: Ilkeston v Marines LIVE UPDATES

Ilkeston shoot for goal straight from kick off! At least that's one shot on goal! Decent start by the Robins however!

Re: Ilkeston v Marines LIVE UPDATES

Despite fielding a very inexperienced team Ilkeston had spells in the game where they totally dominated Marine. They started brightly with a shot on goal straight from the kick off! This positive approach looked to be paying off as Ilkeston pressed forward looking for an opener. Surprisingly Marine looked to be the team showing nerves. Fans feared the worse however when Marine scored a soft goal after a defensive mix up. Heroically the young Robins continued to press and after a good passing move Rose scored from close range to level the game. In the second half again looked the more dangerous until Bellew scored with a wonderful speculative long distance shot which gave Hannis no chance. Ilkeston tried yet again back into the game, backed by a loud vocal support, but despite some enterprising play could not convert their possession into real chances. Marine grew in confidence and were unlucky not to go further ahead forcing Hannis into a number of excellent saves. Atkinson looked lively until he was replaced by Ilkestons one substitute. Bather had an impressive debut in midfield and the back four looked solid.
Overall this was a spirited performance which lifted the morale of everybody involved with Ilkeston football. All they need to do now is find a player who can find the back of the net. Easy really!

Re: Ilkeston v Marines LIVE UPDATES

Ilkeston have now gone eight weeks (twelve matches) since their last win which was at Coalville on 22nd October. Despite losing again against Marine, it was a much more promising performance and In the end they were beaten by an outstanding goal.
Before the game, the Marine officials were saying that we had a good referee today.  He had refereed a previous Marine game and they thought he was good. I wouldn't disagree. In my opinion he was certainly better than one we had recently.
Several players have left the Club recently leaving the team short on experience but the incoming players have stepped up to the challenge. There is now great reliance on Matt Baker, Danny Gordon and Jaylon Bather. We look to Luis Rose and Ben Morris for goals and I expect Keenan Meakin to establish himself in midfield now that he is recovered from injury. Of course It would be nice if we could bring in some experience to help the younger players.
In case no one has noticed we no longer have a full time media department so updates on the website will be affected.
