Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

Succession of free kicks are going Dynamo's way as Ilkeston defend desperately. Terrible foul on Brown-Hill and handbags follow.  It's only a yellow for the offender.  troke takes ball into corner and gets fouled.
1-0       90 mins.

great piece of play by Remaye gets him into the area.     There's the whistle    We did it! .....just!

Result  :  Shepshed   0    Ilkeston  1

Terrific effort by Shepshed in the second half forced us to defend. But its another 3 points and we stay top.

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

That was a great result against a team who have been bang on form playing against some of the top teams  , Any reason why chappo and Bird werent playing ?

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

Three valuable points. Worst playing surface ever. Should probably have been off

Missed Chapman & Bird badly but should have been 2 or 3 up with Wakefield & Goodson missing straightforward chances

Post interval never got going but defended well. Worryingly we failed to have a proper shot on target second half because we sat so deep we couldn’t get bodies forward to support the forwards

Shepshed probably deserved a point for me but missing key players we take it & move on hoping they’re available next week

Squad looks thin to me now. Fielding just two subs plus a young keeper is a concern. Verma due back soon but hopefully we’re looking to recruit. Couple of other results went our way too so a good day at the office

Great support. Good luck to whoever is washing the kit. He/ she will be my MOM!!!!!

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

.

Mon 27th December 2021   Northern Premier League
Shepshed Dynamo  0  Ilkeston Town  1
A goal by Alex Troke just before half time was enough to give Ilkeston all three points. Dynamo were unbeaten in four matches so it was always going to be a stern test even on a decent pitch but on a gluepot surface Ilkeston always struggled to assert control. There were surprisingly few real opportunities for either side considering the awful state of the pitch. There was concern that the game may not go ahead but the rain stopped and the match officials decided that the pitch was playable.
The first attempt on goal was by Troke from Remaye Campbell’s pass but his strike flew wide. Winger Leke Shodunke was looking dangerous for Shepshed and he weaved his way into the Ilkeston penalty area only for his shot to lack power. A few minutes later Shodunke again broke into the area before spectacularly slipping when about to shoot. At the other end Kieran Fenton’s effort was deflected wide before Massiah McDonald had a header saved by Ross Durrant. Zak Goodson then found the net following a good Ilkeston move but the offside flag was raised. On 40 minutes Goodson had Ilkeston’s clearest chance when he fired wide as Ganley rushed out to challenge him but right on half time Ilkeston made the breakthrough when Troke powered in a header from a corner.
Shepshed were fired up for the second half and Ilkeston were pushed back but the Robins might have gone two up when Ganley just beat Campbell to Goodson’s cross. Campbell was then pulled back by a defender when he had a free run on goal. At the other end Durrant did well to save a close range effort on 64 minutes then ten minutes later Jake Betts had a big equalising chance but headed over. Ilkeston’s defenders were put under pressure near the end but Dynamo’s desperate efforts were repelled.

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

Yes Kev, where were Chapman and Bird? It's all whispers and rumours. Someone said Bird was on holiday? If Williams was stuck in traffic did he eventually make it to the game? Couldn't see him on the bench. I appreciate there are more important things in the world right now and things are very delicate what with the Covid situation, but it does get a tad frustrating. The team was missing it's engine room and it would be nice to know why.

So Paddy Webb has gone and we were missing 3 starters in Williams, Chapman, and Bird. The formation looked to be a back 3 of Irvine, Fenton, and Maguire, Bennett as right wing-back, Brown-Hill as left wing-back, Reid, Wakefield, and Troke in midfield, and Goodson and Campbell up front.

Terrible conditions, pitch like a ploughed field. Terrific crowd (615), and a good atmosphere. Very little football played. A day to 'dig in' and grind out a result. And that's what we did. We matched them, sliding tackle for sliding tackle. Terrific application from our lads. Well organised and we showed real commitment and character. You just can't fault the effort all the lads are putting in these days.

A game of few chances. Goodson had a good one when he was clean through towards the end of the first half, but he dragged his shot wide. I thought we edged the first half.

Shepshed bossed most of the second half and we were hanging on at times. With a midfield of Troke, Wakefield, and Reid you might think we'd be a bit light in midfield, and it seemed that way in the second half. Shepshed got a lot of joy down our left side in the second half; I thought they might have moved Billy Bennett across to left back/left wing-back to tighten things up a bit. On balance you'd have to say that Shepshed deserved a point, but we rode our luck and hung on for another valuable win.

Our depleted squad is being tested to the limit. Surely we need a couple of quality additions?

I know Yaxley have shown improved form lately, but anyone predict Stamford 1 Yaxley 2 yesterday? Real coupon buster. Increasingly, it shows that there are no easy games in this league.

Roll on 1st v 2nd at the NMG on Saturday.

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

If Jared  Bird was on holiday it was probably booked well before he joined us as I think he was not playing regular football before then. Tommy Williams travels up from the London area and there was massive traffic problems on the MI yesterday so probably explains why he only arrived shortly before kick off.
It must be difficult to get class players to sign then sit in the stands on the bench each week. I am sure with all the contacts at the club there will be players being lined to bolster the squad over the coming months.
Finally Rumours and Whispers are Ilkeston Towns supporters favourite game. I do remember many years ago a certain programme seller used to start a rumour to see how quick it got back to us! The rumour about Paull Millership building a railway station at the ground was the best but said programme seller got into trouble for that one from the club. Years later I wondered if the club or at least Paul did have that station as an idea!!

I suppose if you are nosey sod like me, you ask politely where are player(s) , this happens in all leagues its not a judgmental thing . Its the same when a player goes , the first thing fans ask is why and the second is he being replaced .  Again this happens in all the league in all leagues above.
Going back to the match i agree we are battling as a team and you are going to get games like this, like we did against Yaxley ( oh and i did say to Alex that Yaxley might be an upset at Stamford ) . But we battle and NEVER give up, thats a sign of a really good team.

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

I should have really said that it was only one supporter who used to ask if there were any rumours and then swear that he’d keep it buttoned if he found out anything! By the time he’d walked round the ground he had told everyone. He does not attend anymore as he’s probably waiting for the train station to open!
To be fair to the club they are much more open these days. In the past it was sometimes embarrassing to be told not to say anything about something that everyone knew about. I must add we have the best supporters at this level and they are why we have and will always have a club at the NMG!!

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

.

I was doing the team sheet yesterday. Normally I receive the team early Saturday morning but yesterday I didn't get it until just before 2pm. There were only three subs and Shepshed were in a similar position.
The delay was due to Tommy Williams being stuck in traffic. There can be no blame on Tommy who travels up from London. His Dad told me that they had been on the road five and a half hours which is no joke.
I don't know why Bird and Chapman didn't play. Anyway we had three regulars out.  The three who came in all performed well in my opinion. I thought Ollie did well playing out of position as a defender. James Reid was excellent in the first half particularly. Most of our attacks came from his prompting. The ever reliable Stern Irvine never lets us down and is always fully committed to the cause.
So taking everything into account including the awful conditions, yesterdays win has to be a brilliant result. Shepshed's pitch definitely gives them an advantage and It's easy to see how Halesowen and Chasetown lost there.
We now seem to have the knack of winning (or drawing in the case of the Stamford match) when we're not at our best.

Re: Shepshed Dynamo v Ilkeston Town 27th December 2021

I’d like to see Stern play regularly. He never lets us down and is an outstanding prospect

That might mean playing him right back or three at the back. I don’t think he’d let us down as a holding midfielder either

All three who came in Saturday did well. Another clean sheet at a tough venue. Given their pitch you can see why teams struggle there

But we must do better in the final third. We’ve created next to nothing in the last three hours. That said, we’re top which is superb. We have more in the tank and January is a big month. Time to put our foot down
