Demise of Walton Casuals FC and it's repercussions

.

DATE: THU 09 JUN 2022     BY STEVE WHITNEY

Very Sad News From Walton Casuals FC
Last month, Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South club Walton Casuals revealed off-field problems which threatened its very future.  The club announced it was exploring potential acquisition approaches before deciding the ultimate future.

However, a statement issued from the club today has revealed the sad news that their attempts to identify new owners or investors has been unsuccessful.

The statement from the Board of Directors reads: “Following the announcement on May 10th that the club were having to explore the future of the club, the process to identify new owners and/or investors has sadly been unsuccessful. “Therefore, the club has decided that it will now follow a process of managed closure. “This decision has been very difficult, and we are sure will come as a huge shock and disappointment to the club’s staff, volunteers, fans and all the relationships and associations that the club has built-up over many years. “During the process, the Board were determined to ensure that (at either the point of acquisition or in the event of closure) the club would be left in a position with no liabilities or indebtedness. “This has been achieved and despite the anguish that closure will inevitably cause, the club leaves with honour and pride in what it has achieved and with the many wonderful memories. “The Board will now progress the managed closure of Walton Casuals FC but would like to again thank everyone foe their extraordinary support over many years and their patience and understanding during this recent period”.

With the demise of Step 3 Southern League Premier South club Walton Casuals FC, this could trigger a clutch of moves that might help Carlton or Long Eaton to be moved from NPL East to NPL Midlands.  It’s a very slim chance but a possibility

The way it might happen is if a Step 4 side from NPL Midlands is promoted to Step 3 to replace Walton Casuals and a Step 5 Club is promoted to NPL East. That would leave NPL East with 21 clubs and NPL Midlands with 19 clubs. That would enable one club to move from NPL East to NPL Midlands

The Step 4 club in pole position to be given promotion to replace Walton would presumably be the one with the best points per game. That would be Stamford  who have the same ppg as Workington but have scored more goals.

The clubs with the best ppg in each step 4 league who didn't win promotion are as follows:

                                                Points  Games   PPG       goals
                                                                                        scored
NPL East -     Cleethorpes            69       36     1.916
NPL West      Workington              84       38     2.210        72
NPL Mids      Stamford                84       38     2.210        95
Isthmian SC   Chertsey                 76       36     2.111
Isthmian N     Brentwood               75       38    1.974
Isthmian SE   Ashford Utd             72       38    1.895
Southern C    Berkhamstead         81       38    2.132
Southern S    Frome                      78       36    2166

Rather than promote an additional Step 4 team it could be decided to reprieve a relegated Step 3.

It's not going to happen for Long Eaton  -  Their appeal has been rejected

NON LEAGUE

Walton Casuals’ demise sees two clubs reprieved and one promoted

Walton Casuals’ sad and unfortunate demise sees two non league clubs reprieved and one promoted in a change to the 2022/23 line-up.

The vacancies as a result of Walton Casuals’ folding and stepping down from Step 3 have now been filled as follows:
Step 3 – Merthyr Town reprieved,
Step 4 – Cinderford Town reprieved,
Step 5 – Worcester Raiders promoted from Step 6.

I'm not saying it's the reason they chose to reprieve a relegated club rather than promote one, but it is less controversial and doesn't cause lateral moves.
