Re: Heanor Town v Ilkeston Town 13th July 2022

Ilkeston have been a class above Heanor but the Lions have put Ilkeston under pressure when they have attacked us. Brown-Hill has a fine game and generally we have looked comfortable despite playing with ten men!

Ilkeston Town made the short journey to local rivals Heanor Town for their third pre-season game and ended the night with a comfortable 4-2 despite playing for most of the game with ten men after a Triallist was sent off early in the game. Remaye Campbell, Montel Gibson, Alex Troke and a Triallist provided the goals.

In front of a healthy crowd the Robins started very brightly with Ollie Brown-Hill looking very lively down the left. However despite Ilkeston’s dominance it was the home side who took the lead on 15 minutes when a Triallist conceded a penalty by dragging Sleigh back when he had got behind the Ilkeston back line. After the referee showed the triallist a red card Sleigh took the penalty kick himself to put the Lions in front.

Ilkeston quickly recovered and reorganized winning a penalty themselves on 23 minutes when Brown-Hill was bought down in the box after another surging run. Campbell coolly sent the keeper the wrong way to equalize for the Robins. Despite being down to ten men Ilkeston continued to dominate play with the impressive Fenton thundering a trade mark free kick against the Heanor bar. On 38 minutes Dan Bradley fed Montel Gibson who coolly side stepped the keeper to give Ilkeston the lead.

At half time Ilkeston made six changes to their line up but Heanor still struggled to get into the game. It was no surprise when Brown-Hill was yet again bought down in the box by an increasingly desperate looking Heanor defence. Alex Troke stepped up to convert the spot kick and three minutes later another Triallist scored a fine goal excellent down the left by the lively Ben O’Hanlon.

As both teams made more changes on the hour the hapless official continued to manage to upset both sets of supporters. Heanor however were still finding it difficult to contain Zak Goodson and the other attacking Ilkeston players and Alberry did well to keep the score down to four.
On 84 minutes ex Robin Max Thornberry scored for Heanor with an excellent strike but the Robins could have added to their total with Campbell and Gibson going close in the closing minutes of the game.

At the final whistle Ilkeston could reflect on another excellent workout with the team looking sharp especially and probably because they had to play with a man short. Ollie Brown-Hill had an excellent game and Ben O’Hanlon again looked impressive. Skipper Kieran Fenton played very well considering he has just returned to the club from his summer break.

On Saturday Ilkeston make another short journey this time ti the Stag Ground to face Kimberley Mineres Welfare, in a 3pm kick off, who should include the free scoring Ex Robin Louis Rose in their line up.

Ilkeston Town Line up:- Triallist, Triallist, Bennett, Bradley, Turner, Fenton, Thomas J, Bird, Gibson, Campbell and Brown-Hill Subs Troke, Deeney, Triallist, Goodson, O’Hanlon, Wakefield and Willock.

Heanor Town:- Alberry, Britton, Haywood, Thornberry, Dando, Carlisle, Greenham, Craddock, Sliegh, Rourke and Daley
Subs Atem, Goold, Hall, Korzonewski and Tipper.
