A little bit unfortunate for Martin Carruthers and Wayne Hallcro that they got the boot after a win and a better performance. I now think a few changes are imminent.
I've heard that Liam Daly has gone and O'Grady, Bird and Wakefield are likely to follow. Also heard that a team in our league have expressed an interest in O'Grady.
Jamie Ward is an international footballer with loads of experience and has played under numerous managers. I hope this equips him to do a good job for us. He has a month to prove himself and make the job his and we wish him well.

Manager departs Ilkeston
Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Ilkeston Town have announced that manager Martin Carruthers’ contract has been cancelled by mutual consent.
Carruthers took over in November 2019 and guided the Robins to promotion from the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands as champions earlier this year. Assistant manager Wayne Hallcro will also be leaving the club.
Carruthers previously enjoyed great success as Basford United’s manager, guiding the club to five promotions before taking over at Quorn in May 2019. He left them in second spot to move to the Microlise New Manor Ground.
The former Aston Villa, Hull City and Peterborough United striker was also known to Robins fans having played for the club between 2006 and 2008 and also worked under Nigel Jemson assistant manager.
Chairman and owner Dave Hilton told the club’s website: “I wish to thank Martin for his hard work and success at the club, a particular highlight being the league title win last season.“I have huge amounts of respect for him as a person and a coach and I wish him the best of luck for the future. The same applies to Wayne to whom I also express my thanks”.

Just like to say thank you to Martin and Wayne. They are both very decent men and worked hard to get the club where they are now. From the tail end of last season to now, they have worked under a lot of pressure managing the high expectations of owners and supporters but they always gave 100% and did their best for the Club. Good luck to both in the future.

Martin and Wayne are two of the nicest guys in non-league football. They always had a lot of time for the ordinary fan and were always willing to discuss Ilkeston Town. I felt they were under a lot of pressure from the tail end of last season and the under performance of some players and injuries did not help reduce their stress level. There is a lot of expectation at ITFC which is the downside of having such tremendous support. There were a few who have always wanted Martin out and some from the minute he arrived. There were comments about his lack of success?? However if you look at his track record he has been successful wherever he has been and has won numerous titles and promotions. I am sure if Martin and Wayne decide to get straight back into management they will as there will be loads of teams wanting to tap into their success. I think they will do well wherever they go and maybe at some point they return to ITFC.
However Ilkeston have to look forwards and Jamie Ward and Ben Turner have a chance to stake their place for the job on a permanent basis. I am sure if they don't the owners won't be slow in getting a more experienced manager in.

Sad news for the guys... but let's face it, you are in the easier of the leagues.... I might be paraphrasing, of course, but I am only basing that point of view on what I read here.
On a positive note, I have followed a team down this (my) neck of the woods since the early 1970s. And, let's face it, we might be meeting you again in five years or so...? That's non-league for you, and (now and again) EFL football.
That is why we are here...? Will always meet you on this website (always good) - and/or a ground near you...

A lot of people are saying that Martin and Wayne struggled to get us over the line towards the end of last season. That may be true but it's also true that Ilkeston Town were promoted and three other really strong teams missed out. ie Stamford, Halesowen and Chasetown.

Your right and the managers of those three teams could all be possible future Ilkeston Town managers and nobody would complain!
