ITFC Next Permanent Manager?

ITFC Next Manager 2023

After the departure of Martin Carruthers Ilkeston Town will start life under new stewardship.

Jamie Ward and Ben Turner – Jamie and Ben have been installed as Interim Managers which could be seen as a trial for the job full time. Both have tremendous playing experience at a high level but may lack experience at this level on non-league football. Saying that Paul Hirst and Adam Scott took over at Ilkeston in similar circumstances ten year or so ago and it did not prove to be a barrier as the Robins went on gain promotion. Paul Hirst has since gone on to enjoy a long managerial career in the Football League. In reality Jamie and Ben have nothing to lose!

Adam Stevens – Presently Coalville Towns manager and a very successful one at that. Has a proven record at this level but could he be prized away from Coalville?

Paul Cox – Ex Robin and has had a successful career in management at teams such as Eastwood Town, Barrow and Boston United. Is well known in this locality and is avai;able after recently leaving Boston United.

Ian Deakin and Craig Swinscoe – Ian and Craig would be a very popular choice due to their history at the NMG. Were unfortunate not to get the job full time a few years back and left to join Long Eaton United. They have had nothing but success at Grange Park but have not managed at this level.

Paul Phillips – The ex Matlock manager has a successful record but would be a controversial contender for the post. He is however available.

Steve Chettle – Steve would like Ian Deakin would be a very popular appointment at the NMG due to his past record as a manager and player. We believe he is available but may not want to get involved again in management at this level.

Graham Drury – Graham is a long shot as he has been successful at Stamford over the years. Has managed at this level before and maybe be getting fed up of just missing out on promotion at Stamford.

No doubt others may have candidates hey would like in the mix so feel free to add them.

Two ore names in the hat from Alex. Maybe both long shots has neither based locally.

Paul Smith – Halesowen Town’s boss and has led them in a number of successful seasons. Previousely at Alvechurch, Bromsgrove Sporting and Redditch United.

Steve Cunningham – Ex Buxton manager who left the club after clinching promotion last season. Previousely with Curzon Ashton and Colne where spent seven years as manager.

Re: ITFC Next Permanent Manager?

Craig Hopkins/ Glenn Kirkwood

Ex Matlock & Mickleover duo. Ross played for them at Mickleover on loan when he was 19

Not been involved anywhere for a while. Proper honest old school football men. In the murky world of non league management they always conducted themselves with dignity and showed players respect

Always did well without massive budgets

Good shout Dick! Both have played for Ilkeston and have a good track record in local non-league football. Belper Town's manager Grant Back has done well in recent years as well.

You mean Gary Hayward. Yes he fits the bill but I am not sure he has done anything since leaving Buxton.

Re: ITFC Next Permanent Manager?

.

In my opinion Jamie Ward and Ben Turner's chances of permanently getting the job are slim to zero.  The only way they will get the job is to avoid defeat at Coalville and to win every other game.

Even if they achieve that it's far more likely that Dave and Andy will choose an experienced manager with an outstanding results record.
I bet Dave is already inundated with applications for the job and if a really outstaning candidate is available they will move quickly.

JAMIE WARD’S CAREER
Jamie Ward plays as a striker for Ilkeston Town and the Northern Ireland national team. Born in Birmingham he began his career with his home-town club Aston Villa but failed to break into the first team and following a spell on loan at Stockport County he joined Torquay United. From there Ward had signed first for Chesterfield and then Sheffield United before joining Derby County in 2011 and later Nottingham Forest in 2015. Ward qualifies for Northern Ireland through his grandfather. He was included in the Northern Ireland national team for the UEFA Euro 2016, where they reached the round of 16.
Youth career
2005 – Aston Villa
Senior career:
2005–2006 – Aston Villa
2006 → Stockport County (loan) – 9 games (1 goal)
2006–2007 – Torquay United – 25 games (9 goals)
2007–2009 – Chesterfield – 67 games (29 goals)
2009–2011 – Sheffield United – 63 games (9 goals)
2011 → Derby County (loan) – 13 games (5 goals)
2011–2015 – Derby County – 125 games (29 goals)
2015–2019 – Nottingham Forest – 57 games (3 goals)
2016–2017 → Burton Albion (loan) – 18 games (4 goals)
2018 → Cardiff City (loan) – 4 games (0 goals)
2018 → Charlton Athletic (loan) – 9 games (1 goal)
2019–2020 – Scunthorpe United – 6 games (2 goals)
2020–2021 – Solihull Moors – 19 games (3 goals)
2021–2022 – Buxton – 33 games (17 goals)
2022– Ilkeston Town
National team
Northern Ireland U18 – 2 games (0 goals)
2006–2008 – Northern Ireland U21 – 7 games (2 goals)
2011–2018 – Northern Ireland – 35 games (4 goals)

It’s  good to give Jamie and Ben a Management taster even if it’s only for a few weeks. It’s all good experience.  Of course we wish them well and if they do get the job we’ll be right behind them.
