Re: Sat 24 Sep : Bedford Town v Ilkeston Town

Troke booked for not a bad challenge in my opinion but the Bedford player (Butterworth) now has a head bandage. Eratt-Thompson now booked.  Bedford free kick drifts out of play.
GOAL  unbelievable ilkeston are ahead as Solanke pushes the ball past Street       2-1     75 mins

Re: Sat 24 Sep : Bedford Town v Ilkeston Town

Shot from corner goes wide.   Ilkeston have settled for a draw.

Full-time It's finished  2-2       Attendance 540.

Disappointing to concede in the closing minutes but in my oppinion a draw was all we desrved.  i'd have took a draw at half time.

Big decision by Ward to replace Gibson with Troke.

Sat 24th Sep  2022
Southern League Premier Central
Bedford Town  2  Ilkeston Town  2
Ilkeston came close to taking all three points but were denied by a Bedford leveller in added time. Bedford deservedly led at half time but goals by Chris O’Grady and Tom Solanke put Ilkeston ahead after the restart.
Bedford started strongly and Ilkeston debutant Reece Hutchinson had to make a timely tackle to stop the hosts going ahead. After only 10 minutes Marshall Willock needed lengthy treatment for a head injury but was able to carry on heavily bandaged. Ilkeston had a strong shout for a penalty on 20 minutes when Dempsey Arlott-John went down in the area under challenge. It wasn’t given and the Eagles took advantage by going ahead  four minutes later when a fine cross by Drew Richardson was hammered home by leading scorer Tyrone Lewthwaite. Ilkeston’s best first half effort was shot by Montel Gibson which Alex Street turned round the post.
Jamie Ward replaced Gibson with Alex Troke for the second half and O’Grady replaced Arlott-John on 55 minutes. Barely a minute after coming on O’Grady had the ball in the net with a looping header from Troke’s cross. Bedford hit back with a surging run and shot by Charlie Sanders going narrowly wide but Ilkeston were to go ahead on 75 minutes. Remaye Campbell found Solanke in space but as Street raced out Solanke nonchalantly rolled it past him. Ilkeston then looked more likely to score the next goal. When Solanke broke free and was blatantly fouled, the ball fell rather awkwardly to Ollie Brown-Hill whose effort from a difficult angle was pushed round the post. An Ilkeston free kick would have been more advantageous than allowing play to continue. Joe Butterworth had a shot blocked before Sanders equalised for Bedford with a far post header from Kofi Halliday’s cross. The hosts could have stole the points in the dying moments when Connor Tomlinson blazed over.

Bedford's Match report:

DETERMINED EAGLES SHARE THE SPOILS WITH THE ROBINS      BY ZAC NEAL
Bedford Town and Ilkeston Town were unable to be separated as Eagles and Robins held to one point each. Bedford Town welcomed Ilkeston Town to The Eyrie for another Southern League Premier Division Central match. The Eagles are on the hunt for their fourth league win of the season and Gary Setchell will want to get that win today. It was an even start between the two sides. Both teams started well and were settling into the game well. There were some chances at each end but none were of note during the early stages of the match. This was until the Eagles took the lead. This came from some brilliant play from Bedford Town as they worked the ball to Connor Tomlinson on the right wing. His cross was met by Tyrone Lewthwaite who excellently finished to give Bedford the lead. The fifth goal of the season for Tyrone Lewthwaite who has started life well at Bedford, adapting well to step three football so far. Bedford were dominating after the goal but couldn’t find a second before half time. The score line was 1-0 at half time.
The second half was more even as expected. Ilkeston Town made a substitution subbing Chris O’Grady on for Dempsey Arlott-John. This sub changed the game. Not even a minute after being subbed on, Chris O’Grady was on the scoresheet. A cross to the back post found Chris O’Grady who’s looping header found the back of the net to level things up for Ilkeston. The next twenty-five minutes of the game was very even. Both teams could’ve scored but neither did. Each side made some changes to roll the dice and try and go for a goal. With just over fifteen minutes to play, Ilkeston went in front. It was a scrappy goal to score for The Robins as a deflection in the Bedford box found Tom Solanke who slotted under Alex Street to put Ilkeston in front for the first time in the game. A harsh goal to concede for The Eagles who didn’t deserve to go behind. For the last fifteen minutes, The Eagles now had no choice but go for a goal. As the game entered stoppage time, The Eagles found an equaliser. Debutant Kofi Halliday whipped a superb ball into the box and Charley Sanders rose highest at the back post and his header found the back of the net much to the Eagles’ delight. The game finished 2-2. A draw was probably the fair result as both teams displayed themselves well in a great advert for step three football. The next match for the Eagles is Leiston away this coming Tuesday.
