Re: Sat 15th Oct : Royston v Ilkeston

Following a pretty poor performance at Rushall today was a definite improvement. The first half was not great but after Fenton headed us in front at the start of the second half we started to play. Royston persisted playing long balls forward and we could deal with that.  Their penalty was disputed by all of our players,  We may have had one of our own in the first half when Arlott-John appeared to be knocked over. Overall we deserved our win and my man of the match was Declan Eratt-Thompson. Another good perfomance from Finn Delap and Fenton was commanding at the back on his return.

DATE: SAT 15 OCT 2022      BY STEVE WHITNEY
Saturday`s Premier Division Central Round-Up

With the top two in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central inactive on Saturday, Leiston took full advantage to move into third place in the table after hammering Bromsgrove Sporting 7-1 – and on their own Victoria Ground too! An outstanding performance from the Suffolk side literally blew the Rouslers away. The visitors were three-up by the 11th minute, courtesy of a Finlay Barnes brace and Adam Bailey-Dennis. And it was all over by half-time as Jake Hutchings added a fourth on 24 minutes and then Ben Fowkes bagged a brace on 26 and 44 minutes to send Leiston into the break an incredible 6-0 up! As often happens in situations like this, the second half was a lot quieter, although Will Davies did add the visitors` seventh in the 68th minute but the biggest cheer of the afternoon for those left in the 618 crowd was when Mike Taylor converted a 90th-minute penalty for the hosts!

Redditch United maintained their good start to the season with a 2-0 win at Hayden Road against second-from-bottom AFC Rushden & Diamonds. After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Bernard Mensah broke the deadlock to give the Reds a 68th-minute lead. And victory was confirmed to take Redditch fourth and level on points with Leiston, when Danny King made it 2-0 with 5 minutes remaining.

Another team to enjoy a big away win were Mickleover, who won 5-2 at the UK FLOORING DIRECT Stadium against third-from-bottom Barwell. And that was after the visitors had trailed to an early 8th-minute Kyle Rowley effort.Ryan Wilson bagged a brace on 18 and 32 minutes and then a George Ward own goal made it 3-1 just 5 minutes into the second half. The experienced Stuart Beavon made it 4-1 just past the hour-mark and, after Brady Hickey had pulled a second back for the Canaries in the 90th minute, George Nunn made it a nap hand for Sports 5 minutes into time added on.

Bottom side Hednesford Town picked up an away point from a 1-1 draw at Top Field against Hitchin Town. Steve Burr’s side are still searching for a second win and he would have been massively disappointed as, having broken the deadlock through Kyle Bennett in the 56th minute, they conceded an immediate equaliser, with Malaki Black scoring for the Canaries.

There were wins for Stourbridge, Bedford Town and Ilkeston Town.

Stourbridge stretched Stratford Town’s winless run to six matches with a 4-0 win at the War Memorial Athletic Ground. A crowd of 612 saw Reece Styche give the home side a 24th-minute lead that Joe Hull doubled 7 minutes later. Six minutes after half-time, Jason Cowley added the hosts` third and Joel Kettle made it 4-0 on 65 minutes.

Bedford ended their run of seven matches without success by winning 3-1 at Dales Lane against sixth-placed Rushall Olympic. Connor Tomlinson gave the Eagles the boost of an early 6th-minute lead that loanee Dan Jarvis doubled in the 27th minute. Tomlinson’s second on the hour-mark virtually sealed the visitors` victory, although Alex Fletcher did manage a penalty consolation in stoppage time.

And Ilkeston won for the first time in four games, 2-1 at Garden Walk against inconsistent Royston Town. After a goalless opening half, Kieren Fenton put Ilkeston in front 5 minutes after the restart. The experienced Chris O’Grady doubled the Robins` lead on 73 minutes, and although Matt Bateman reduced the arrears from the spot 5 minutes later, Ilkeston hung on for three good points.

Re: Sat 15th Oct : Royston v Ilkeston

Royston’s attendance of 419 on Saturday against Ilkeston, was their highest so far this season. It beat their previous highest attendance by over a hundred.
