Midweek Match Preview
It’s a relatively quiet midweek for fixtures in the Pitching In Southern Football League. Tuesday evening sees two games in the Premier Division Central, with Nuneaton Borough looking to get back on track when they welcome Hitchin Town to Liberty Way.Jimmy Ginnelly’s side lost second spot to Leiston and also bowed out of the Isuzu FA Trophy on Saturday and have gone four games in all competitions without a win. Hitchin, currently 16th, ended their poor run with a 2-1 success at Stratford Town last midweek.
The two teams who were switched from the Northern Premier League in the summer, Mickleover and Basford United, meet at the Don Amott Arena. Both have made decent starts in the Southern League, with Sports holding seventh place and Basford two points and two places below them. John McGrath’s Mickleover side have won their last three league games, whilst their Nottinghamshire rivals were beaten at home in the Trophy by Northern Premier League Premier Division side Marine AFC on Saturday and lost their last league outing at Redditch United last Monday.

Mickleover's win against Basford lifts them to one place below the playoff positions and level on 23 points with Coalville.
For Basford, it was a third consecutive 2-1 defeat having previously lost to Marine n the FA Trophy and Redditch in the league.

Tuesday's Premier Division Central Round-up
Nuneaton Borough missed the opportunity to reduce the deficit at the top of the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central table to seven points when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Liberty Way by Hitchin Town on Tuesday night. After Luke Benbow had come close to giving Boro the lead when his effort came back off the crossbar, it was the Canaries who broke the deadlock in first half injury-time through Finley Wilkinson.
However, Jimmy Ginnelly’s side found a 74th minute equaliser through Charlie Dowd to at least earn a share of the spoils.
Mickleover’s good run continued after they won the battle of the two teams switched from the Northern Premier League Premier Division in the summer against Basford United at the Don Amott Arena.
Ryan Wilson gave Sports an early 5th minute lead which was cancelled out by Gregg Smith 7 minutes later.
It was Elliott Reeves who came up with the winner for the hosts just past the hour-mark.
