A look at the season so far

A look at the season so far
For most Ilkeston supporters with high expectations following promotion, winning matches at Step 3 has been tougher than anticipated. But nothing is decided before the halfway point and no team has left the others behind.
Tamworth made a great start but a recent poor run means they’re no longer red hot favourites for automatic promotion. Leiston and Coalville can go above them if they win their games in hand.
Getting into the playoffs is very much a possibility for several teams and Ilkeston currently in 10th place are only 5 points off a playoff position. So whilst we haven’t made the start we wanted, we’re still in a position to push for a playoff place.
It’s surprising that Leiston have done so well considering the amount of travelling they have to do. They are the team with the best points per game record but with gates of under 300, it’s questionable whether they equipped to go up to National League level.
The other current in-form teams are Rushall, Ilkeston, Coalville, Bromsgrove and Barwell.
Ilkeston and Coalville along with Tamworth and Nuneaton are the most ambitious and probably the best equipped to compete at Step 2.
At the other end of the table I didn’t expect to see Hednesford at the bottom with only 8 points from 19 matches. Rushden & Diamonds, Kings Langley and Bedford seem to be the other teams in danger of relegation but there’s time for fortunes to change.

How many points are needed to get into the playoffs?

Last season in our league 65 points from 40 matches was enough for a play off place. (1.625 points per game)
In the previous full season 68 points were needed from 42 matches (1.619 points per game)
The season before that 79 points were needed from 46 matches (1.717 points per game
The season before that 81 points were needed from 46 matches (1,761 points per game.

So over the last four full seasons the highest points per game needed to get into the playoffs was 1.761 points per game.  42 matches at 1.761 points per game means we need 74 points by the end of the season.

Ilkeston currently have 26 points from 18 matches so I’m thinking that we need to pick up another 48 points from our next 24 matches. That's an average of 2 points per game.

16 wins and 8 defeats from the remaining 24 matches would do it.
15 wins, 3 draws and 6 defeats would do it.
14 wins, 6 draws and 4 defeats would do it.

It’s a tall order to achieve the target of 48 points from our remaining 24 matches. We have to put together a decent winning run but it's not impossible.

Ten points from our December matches would be a great start.
Saturday 3rd December Redditch (Away)
Saturday 10th December Tamworth (Home)
Saturday 17th December Alvechurch (Away)
Monday 26th December Basford (Home)

Loving the facts and figures mate.
I think we are building a nice little side together but my main worry is can we keep dan bradley fit?

Going forward we have a fantastic blend of players which all can score goals.

Lets treat every game as a cup final and hope for the best.

Re: A look at the season so far

My two penneth.

Last couple of games we’ve looked more solid at the back. Battersby looked good against King’s Barwell, confident, and I thought he had his best game for us. Gotta help that we’re developing more of a settled side, as players get used to playing with each other. Barwell and King’s Langley maybe two of the weaker teams, but still, about time we had a few clean sheets. I wonder if our new first-team coach is having an influence here.

Bradley’s a class act. Delap looked good in the games he’s played for us, but looks like Bradley is first-choice centre-back at the moment. Sherif and Erratt-Thompson look good in midfield, but I’m concerned with only the two of them they’ll get overrun against better teams. At some point I’d like to see a midfield of Sherif, Erratt-Thompson, Bradley, with Erratt- Thompson the furthest forward of the 3. Maybe against better teams we’ll see a different setup?

I really like the way our full-backs Wilson and Wilder get forward and support the attack. Looks like the left-back Wilder has got a decent right foot as well.

Campbell is clearly a centre-forward playing as a right-winger, but fair play, he’s doing well. Keeps chipping in with the goals as well. What’s not to like about Arlott-John (that looked like a blatant penalty to me on Saturday), and Fyfe and Wilson are good bench options.

I thought O’Grady had an off-day against King’s Langley, and on more than one occasion he and Gibson got in each other’s way. O’Grady’s had some good games for us recently, and Gibson’s always a threat, just not convinced it’s working playing them together.

You have to say it looks like we’re a united bunch, with all players buying in to what Wardy and the coach are trying to do.

We’re improving, and there is nothing to be frightened of in this league. Good tests against Redditch and Tamworth. Let’s see where we are after those 2 games.

What cover have we got for the two centre backs?
At Nuneaton when Bradley went off Chris O`Grady went into centre back.

Rushall Olympic are currently in a playoff position with six points more than Ilkeston but have played a game more.
December is an important month for Ilkeston with opportunities to go above Redditch, make ground on Tamworth and distance themselves from Basford.

A chance meeting has given me renewed belief that promotion is a realistic possibility.

Let's see what the weekend brings.

Let's just say plans are in hand to compensate for the loss of Montel Gibson (moved to Telford), Lamin Sherif (injury) and Jack Thomas (suspended).

Re: A look at the season so far

According to Football Web Pages; their predicted results for Ilkeston’s remaining 13 away matches will result in 0 wins, 4 draws and 9 defeats
I think we can do a bit better than that.

The next 4  matches:
The Redditch away match prediction is 1-1.
The Tamworth home match prediction is also 1-1.
The Alvechurch away match prediction is 0-0.
The Boxing Day prediction is Ilkeston 1 Basford 0.
