Our 2023 opener at Mickleover will be a tough one.
Our Derbyshire neighbours were 3-2 winners at the NMG back in August.
They have an excellent home record: P12, W7, D3, L2, GF27. GA19, Pts 24
They are unbeaten in their last 8 home matches (6 wins and 2 draws)
The 27 goals scored at home by Mickleover is more than any other team in our league and only Nuneaton have picked up more points at home than Mickleover.

A fabulous match to look forward to 23 Dec 2022

On Boxing Day 2016, we were hammered 7-0 at Mickleover. That was a terrible day.

When we played Mickleover in the opening month of the season; this was our line-up;
Ilkeston Town
1 Saul Deeney, 2 Kalern Thomas, 3 Billy Bennett, 4 Jared Bird, 5 Marshall Willock, 6 Kieran Fenton (C), t Declan Eratt-Thompson, 8 Jack Thomas, 9 Remaye Campbell, 10 Montel Gibson, 11 Alex Troke.
Bench : 12 Charlie Wakefield, 13 Tomasz Bukowski, 14 OlIle Brown-Hill, 15 Chris O'Grady, 16 Ben Turner.
Several of the above players have moved on and been replaced so hopefully we get a better result this time

I said that we needed 74 points to get into the playoffs. That means that we need to take an average of four points every two matches
If we had got all three points against Basford, I would have settled for a point at Mickleover.
We didn't though, so now we must do our best to win at Mickleover.
I'm assuming that Henri Wilder will be unavailable because of his red card. If Joe Wilson is still injured then we will be without both of our regular full backs. I expect Jack Thomas to take one of these positions and it could be Bello or Tom Hilton in the other.

I’m looking forward to going to the Don Amott King of Caravans Arena on Monday. We’ve produced just two really outstanding away wins so far, Coalville and Redditch and this could be another.
Our two home matches against our closest neighbours Mickleover and Basford have not gone to plan. On Monday we have a chance to turn the tables on Mickleover who played really well against us at the NMG breezing into a 3-0 lead before we eventually pulled it back to 3-2. Of course it will be a difficult game but I think we sometimes play better away. We have a few players unavailable but our squad is good enough to cope with that.
I’m also reckoning that we will have plenty of travelling support. Mickleover’s average home gate is only 265.
They have only lost twice at home; 4-2 against Coalville and 3-2 against Tamworth.
In their last match they lost 4-2 at Nuneaton Borough.

As Mickleover (6th) and Ilkeston (7th) are currently the two best placed teams to gate crash the current top five this is a crucial game. For the winners it would be a major boost and for the losers it would be a major setback. A draw would be a minor set back for both teams but also would probably be acceptable by both teams.
Both teams are used to playing on an artificial surface so it should be a good quality game. We need to keep Elliot Reeves off the score sheet and then I think we could nick the points in a close game.

Let's try and get 250 plus Ilkeston supporters at Mickleover for tomorrow's match. It's only a short journey and with both teams near the top, it will be a cracking game. Don't just think about it. Join the growing number of regular Ilkeston away travellers and have a great afternoon.

I don't think we'll allow Mickleover to beat us twice so I'm expecting an Ilkeston win or a draw.
Mickleover don't do goalless draws. Ilkeston don't do goalless draws.
It could be a goalfest. We're due a goal from Jamie Ward
Will there be a debut for new signing Thabang Dube?

That’s indigestion Kev! Gaviscon will relax your guts! I’m probably watching Morpeth today playing South Shields! Morpeth or the Peth as they are known locally have not scored in their last six games and have not won since October so ex Robin Dan Lowson might be in for a busy day! I will make sure I talk about Ilkeston Town to everyone I meet so I could end up standing on my own talking to myself!
