Pitching In Volunteers

Former Health Secretary and Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid hailed the impact of Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Bromsgrove Sporting’s tireless volunteers after getting stuck in at the Victoria Ground. The Bromsgrove MP helped with ground preparation alongside loyal regulars, before laying out the kit for the players ahead of the scheduled match against AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

The Rouslers are among the clubs to have benefited from the Pitching In Volunteer Hub, launched by Southern League partners Pitching In last summer to showcase opportunities at non-League clubs across the country, and have used the site to fill vital roles.

Bromsgrove’s match with the Diamonds was eventually postponed due to a frozen pitch but Javid paid tribute to those who unfailingly offer a helping hand come rain or shine.Javid said: “I was delighted to visit Bromsgrove Sporting FC, a thriving community club that is built on the hard work of passionate volunteers.“I was delighted to hear of the success that they are having with recruiting volunteers, thanks to their participation with Pitching In’s Volunteer Hub.”

Volunteers are the heartbeat of non-League clubs up and down the country and the Pitching In Volunteer Hub allows people to find opportunities near them by typing in their postcode. The Worcestershire club are still looking to fill volunteer roles including matchday steward, programme seller and turnstile operator, with club secretary Dave Stephens urging people to see where their skill set can be utilised at a flourishing family club.

Stephens said: “Volunteers are the heartbeat of the majority of non-League football clubs. All clubs strive to get more individuals in to help and Bromsgrove Sporting FC are no different.

“My message to any potential volunteers out there would to be get involved with your local club and community, as we all have different skill levels. We all have something to offer, however big or small.“As a club, we would also like to thank Pitching In for their generous support and sponsorship in this project to all three of the Trident Leagues.”

Bromsgrove are on the road to Redditch United this weekend, while their next home game sees them take on strugglers Hednesford Town on Saturday, 4th February.
