Let’s be honest, that was an unacceptable performance. Stratford looked like a team who will be relegated at the end of the season and we dropped to their level. It’s disappointing to lose to good teams like Coalville and Leiston but to not win easily against teams like Stratford is much more difficult to take. Yesterday’s draw means we have failed to win any of our last four matches and we played like we had given up on chasing a playoff place. We didn’t have a full bench and Arlott-John played although not fully fit which meant we had very little goal threat. Defensively we did okay albeit against poor opposition but we now have a keeper who has given away two penalties in the four games he has played.

14 games to make up 14 points on any one of the teams currently in the play offs
It can be done. But will need a miracle
Davies will be low on confidence. He had a nightmare time at Boston before his move and low confidence breeds poor judgement. I still talk to a few Boston fans from Ross’ time there and they say he was rash at times
If play offs get out of reach expect the budget to be cut. Most clubs do it - makes sense. Prepare for next season
If play offs are missed then lessons are there to be learnt. For me the key one is stick with local lads who want to play for the club
Big names from higher up don’t always do well in non league
The biggest miss for me from last season is Adam Chapman. The side was never the same after his injury. I’d have built a side around him. So influential

Frustration for the Robins in Stratford draw
Feb 5, 2023
SPL Premier CentralStratford Town 1 (Grocutt 59pen)Ilkeston Town 1 (Thomas 45+4)
The Robins couldn’t build on an encouraging first-half display as we ultimately had to make do with a point in Warwickshire on Saturday.
Despite carving out the better opportunities throughout, including having two efforts cleared off the line, it took a penalty from Will Grocutt to earn a share of the spoils for the Bards.
Callum Ebanks put a good early opening wide for the home side, while Robins skipper Kieran Fenton headed wide via a deflection at the other end from Henri Wilder’s right wing corner.
Stratford saw Grocutt curl a free-kick wide, then Robins defender Joe Wilson slammed the ball against his own crossbar whilst stretching to clear a cross in what was a real let off for the visitors.
From that point on, we bossed the rest of the half, Lee Tomlin firing wide after making space in the penalty area and Leroy Lita also shooting past the post from the edge of the box.
Fenton came closest to the opener when his shot from a Wilson pull-back was cleared off the line as the ball looked like it would sneak in at the far post.
After Dempsey Arlott-John saw a long-range strike parried wide by keeper Liam O’Brien, we finally got the lead in first-half stoppage time when Jack Thomas (pictured) found space 25 yards out and his shot took a deflection and looped up over O’Brien and into the net.
We struggled to get a foothold in the second-half initially, Ebanks putting two reasonable chances wide of the target, before the equaliser then came on the hour mark when Jesse Akubuine was sent in on goal and keeper Rhys Davies clattered into him as he tried to intercept, a penalty given to the hosts and Grocutt stepping up to score.
Our best chance of a winner came on 76 minutes when a ball into the penalty area saw sub Silvio Bello get to the ball before O’Brien and knock it into the danger area where Thomas got a head on the ball but it was again cleared off the line as it looked to be heading in.
But other than an Arlott-John strike which went wide, neither side would seriously threaten again and the points were shared.
Stratford: O’Brien, White, Morrison, Hawker, McCone, Turner, Molyneux (Sambu 82), Akubuine, Ebanks (Taylor 90), Grocott, Wright Not used: Beresford, Bunga, Wildbore
Ilkeston: Davies, Wilson, Wilder, Thomas (Hilton 90), Delap, Fenton, Dube (Bello 66), Bradley, Lita, Tomlin, Arlott-John Not used: Woodward

Nobody could say Dave didn't give it his best shot. He did everything he could to try and get us promoted but there are no guarantees in football and putting together a successful team is not an exact science. There are so many things that have to be right. It's easy to say with hind site where mistakes have been made but not so easy to put things right. Every new player brought in is a gamble.
I agree that we now need cut the wage bill. The playoffs are almost certainly beyond us but If we can finish in the top half then this season won't have been be a disaster and we can have ago again next season. Maybe going straight through this league was too much to hope for. We've suffered more than expected with injuries and got off to a poor start meaning we were always under pressure to stay with the top five, all of whom have shown great consistency and look to be far superior to all of the other teams

I can’t get over how poor we were. Before we played against them, Stratford had won only one of their last 12 matches. So for a team with playoff aspirations to go there and not win has to be a truly awful result. For me, that was our worst performance of the season. Stratford were poor and we sank to their level. I always thought that we had a decent squad and if we had a few injuries we would be alright but Saturday we had nothing on the bench meaning we couldn't change things. We played much better against Leiston and Coalville so what went wrong at Stratford? In my opinion only Jack Thomas, Joe Wilson and Lee Tomlin put in creditable performances.
