Tamworth v Nuneaton Abandoned

.

From Birmingham Live

Football match between Tamworth FC and Nuneaton Boro abandoned as fans 'launch flares in ugly scenes'

A football match between Tamworth FC and their bitter local rivals was astonishingly abandoned an hour in after 'ugly scenes and flares were thrown'. The match was stopped 60 minutes into the game at Tamworth FC's The Lamb with the hosts 2-0 up on Tuesday night, February 21.
A large police presence was pictured outside the ground as supporters began to filter out of the stadium and to their homes. On 60 minutes, at just before 9.30pm, Tamworth FC tweeted: "Match has been stopped due to the safety of players and management teams. Everyone has left the pitch.”
Violence also broke out between fans at the first game in October after a sick taunt was allegedly made about Morgan Hehir. The 20-year-old was fatally stabbed on a night out with his friends in his hometown on October 31, 2015.
Just over 10 minutes later they then posted: "After discussions with police and match officials, our match against Nuneaton has been abandoned. We will update you in due course."Nuneaton tweeted: "Both teams have left the field after fans of both sides began throwing projectiles at each other" and then said: "THE GAME HAS NOW BEEN ABANDONED!" Supporters said an announcement was made over the tannoy that the game had been abandoned due to "factors out of our control".
Ciaran Morrison, who attended with his friend, Cayden Sands, spoke to us not long after the match had been abandoned and said they were "ugly scenes, spoiling what was a great derby atmosphere". He told us: "It's crazy. We're at the train station now but as we left the ground there was a large police presence and police dogs. "Away fans were kept in whilst home supporters made their way out. It all got out of hand after Tamworth scored their second. "Tamworth fans nearest the away section were escorted out and that defused the situation. Tamworth came out to restart the game but Nuneaton didn't appear. "We're just neutrals who wanted to enjoy a night out watching some local non-league football."
Lambs fan Jordan Bradbury was in the family stand with his daughter and said he had never seen anything like it before at a Tamworth game. "Don’t get me wrong we’ve got the usual ten or so muppets that just want a fight but which club doesn’t? I’ve done 21 Tamworth games this year and had no issues as far as I’m aware," he told us. "The only issue was the first game of the season when some idiot threw a stone at the coach."

Re: Tamworth v Nuneaton Abandoned

Such a shame this moronic behaviour is creeping into non league

The Stone Island/ baseball cap brigade have a few shandies and a bit of snort and think they’re the ICF

Embarrassed for them really. We saw it with the visit of Halesowen to the NMG last season. They can’t fight sleep one on one but are dangerous in groups

Terrible to see. Doesn’t sound like it was Policed very well either

Re: Tamworth v Nuneaton Abandoned

It’s a worrying trend that appears to repeating what happened in the early eighties at Ilkeston. Groups of young fans for whatever reason are not getting to professional football and are latching on to the nearest available non-league club. When they attend they are encouraged by the more relaxed policing of these game to misbehave in the guise ‘having a laugh’. In the Robins infamous FA Trophy run in 1982 a group of alleged Derby fans were on their way to watch Derby play Millwall at the Den. For some reason they did not make it and ended up at Barnet who were hosting Ilkeston Town in FA Trophy. All he’ll let loose but Ilkeston won against the famous Barry Fry and Martin Chivers. It got a lot of news coverage and these fabs suddenly became celebrities. In the next few rounds the legend grew and by the time they faced Enfield in the quarter finals the inevitable happened. The ‘gang’ By now bedecked in green berets stole or bought from Ilkeston market place (they wanted red berets but the stall did not have any) again misbehaved and eventually managed to get the game abandoned. Ilkeston were 5-1 down at the time so the result stood and Ilkeston were banned from FA Trophy for a number of seasons. Unfortunately it was not the end of it as this element again reared it’s ugly head ironically against Tamworth a few years later (still with green berets). By this time all Ilkeston Town supporters were classed by the police as category A hooligans. This probably led to the heavy handed policing at the Scunthorpe away game in FA Cup were CS gas was used on football fans for the first time in the UK. The reputation of Ilkeston fans only improved when the hooligan got too old to cause any real significant trouble or they passed on. This is probably no help to Tamworth who do have some lovely people at their club. They may need to do more to deter the part time fans that besmirch their name but it’s not easy or a problem that is quick to fix. Nuneaton to a lesser extent appears to have similar issues and digging a bit further you some issues at Stourbridge and Halesowen. When I used to speak to Ilkeston hooligans to try and find their motivation they nearly all commented on how much fun it was being part of a mob and it was just a great laugh! I found it very depressing and it’s a real shame it’s surfacing again although luckily not to any great extent at Ilkeston. I have no idea what the solution. Does anybody else?

Re: Tamworth v Nuneaton Abandoned

I remember that tamworth game.
Denis jeans put us 1-0 up then the tamworth went for us. At the time ilkeston where 3 or 4 leagues below them. After half time tamworth was shooting down the hill at the Manor ground. They were to good for us.

Re: Tamworth v Nuneaton Abandoned

Tamworth have had time to think about it, and on reflection, none of it was their fault. What a surprise. Punching a steward though. Jeez.

Re: Tamworth v Nuneaton Abandoned

I have this morning seen a video of allegedly a man kicking an unconscious man on the floor in the head. I’m not sure if they are both Tamworth or Nuneaton fans but it does not look good for either club.

I find it quite upsetting but football has to face up to the fact that this is happening at football grounds! It looks to me that things are starting to get out of control at some grounds!

Re: Tamworth v Nuneaton Abandoned

.

As far as I'm aware Tamworth got away with it when Ilkeston's supporters coach was attacked (Not their fault)
There was also trouble when they played at Nuneaton's ground so this latest event at Tamworth should finally bring some action. They can't keep saying it's not their responsibility.

I'm hoping that both clubs get a points deduction and a fine. Also the re-arranged match should be played in an empty stadium.

The Southern League officials may be reluctant to deduct points as they would no doubt like to see troublesome clubs  go into another league and both Tamworth and Nuneaton have a good chance of being promoted. The league will only be able to hand out punishments in accordance with what their rules permit.

Re: Tamworth v Nuneaton Abandoned

I’ve been told that a points deduction won’t happen because the League rules do not allow that for fan behaviour.

Re: Tamworth v Nuneaton Abandoned

So they have got away with it ... Still can't believe their statement that their were good as gold as in when asked to move away to a safe area they did.
But in the Lambs media they slated both sets of fans.
