NEW SIGNING: CHARLIE WAKEFIELD   BY MARC WILLIAMS  15 HOURS AGO 

Former Chesterfield midfielder is latest to sign...Midfielder Charlie Wakefield becomes the latest addition to walk through the Greenwich Avenue gates after agreeing to join the club. Most recently of Ilkeston Town, the 23-year-old graduated through the academy at Chesterfield before agreeing a professional contract with the Spireites, for whom he made his professional debut in a League One fixture against Scunthorpe back in 2017 and gained further experience in the National League. He later spent valuable loan time at Sheffield FC and Matlock Town before being released from the Technique Stadium in 2020 after making seven senior appearances and a total of ten years with his boyhood club.

A month later, Wakefield joined Buxton for a solitary season and remained in Derbyshire for a further two years with a spell at Ilkeston before moving on a season-long loan to Belper Town, then-managed by Steve Kittrick.
