Spoke to a few secretaries of rival clubs and many announced their intention of aiming for a playoff position.
Even allowing for pre-season optimism which all clubs have, I think it's going be really tough for us to finish in the top half. Like last season we have to cope with visiting grounds that are new to us. All clubs start off level and it's important that we don't start poorly.
Realistically, We will do really well to finish above any of the following eleven teams:
Matlock, Bradford Park Avenue, Bamber Bridge, Gainsborough Trinity, FC United, Hyde, Radcliffe, Macclesfield, Worksop, Workington and Marine.
So for me, I'll be happy with a season of consolidation and a mid-table finish but you never know. Long Eaton didn't expect to get promotion last season and I don't think Belper expected to be relegated.

In my opinion it’s going to be tough this coming season so I hope that supporters' expectations are not unrealistic. There are a lot of strong teams in the Northern Premier League and points will be more difficult to earn than in the Southern League. If we make a poor start, it could be a battle for survival.
At the present time though, we don’t know all of the players who will be in our squad and we haven't seen new signings, Yates, Hurst, Tolley and Zottos in action.
When Jamie Ward has named our full squad and we have seen them in the pre-season friendlies we should feel much more confident of a successful season ahead and to me, a successful first season in the NPL would be a mid-table finish.

Just been looking at Worksop’s record last season and Liam Hughes.
Worksop lost only one league match last season playing at Step 4
(Played 38, Won 31, Drawn 6, Lost 1, GF 112, GA 25, Points 99)
They lost their first match and then didn’t lose another league game.
They finished with 31 points more than second placed Stockton.
Their average attendance was 628.
According to footballwebpages Liam Hughes made 45 appearances and scored 42 goals.
